@davettalashley Seeing how they construct it, clearly these "Tiny Houses" are built far more sturdy than standard housing. The large majority of the framing process is glued and screwed together. Have you ever seen how strong the bond is between two pieces of glued wood? Put it in a vice and break it, if you can, and the wood itself will break before the glued bond will. And they are screwed on top of it?; Extremely durable construction.
I do graphics with a CPU tower, on-site, part time. Also oil painting. Want to move away from on-site work. Where can I get a list of material providers? I want home/studio on wheels that's more stealth for city, inside a stepvan? Can you recommend a builder or workshop to do cost comparison between Tiny House, a custom stepvan or just a used class B motor home? Preferably the help would come from a Tiny House builder to help me draw plans then build.
hey jay awesome job coming up with these houses, just seeing the fencl on the internet has inspired me to think about living a different way, i am going to building a fencl come summer i was wondering how long it would take to build the fencl with three people two of those being fluent carpenters. thanks for time and knowledge

@BoboEnterprises The Tumbleweed Homes are very well built and will last a lifetime. They don't fee unstable at all. They are solid & sturdy. Our homes are designed so that anyone from novice to pro can build a Tumbleweed.
In our area using screws for framing is not allowed. Doesn't make sense until you realize most screws are quite brittle compared to nails. When I built my deck I used only enough nails to pass inspection, then used stainless steel screws everywhere else. These screws were soft enough to bend, but not stripping the heads was a problem.
@mrcarpetmuncherman No reason that you can't have both. With the light weight and size of Flat Screen TV's you can certainly set up a nice one in even the smallest of the models.
@Slipperyseal34 Our houses can be towed by many standard trucks or cars, just be sure it's street legal and check the tow capacity of your vehicle compared with the house's weight
I really like this house. I think that it would be cool to include more sustainable living ideas and renewable energy. It's great to see people creating and inventing and very excited about doing this.
@tomperanteau -- I noticed the same thing! I love the fact they use screws. When I build cabinets, shelves, etc I use screws and it always feels more solid. Being a moveable home, screws would take vibration much better. Love these small houses, more and more!!!
You and Tumbleweed ROCK!!! I'm being hosted by a friend living in a McMansion right now. Looking at what the homes in the community consume monthly confronts my personal vows to live simply within the planet's capacity. I wonder if a SIP's version of the Fencl could be built someday with the ecological mushroom/straw foam (ie Greensulate). Each step we make forward is a real step. You inspire people to make leaps. Thanks. I'm working on making my TTH a reality. Success to you!.
All of our houses on wheels are plumbed to be connected to public water and sewer. The water comes in through a white RV hose, and leaves via an RV sewer valve. In the event you arent connected to the sewer, we recommend a portable tank
All the carpenters are babes! Whoo! :D

What kind of trailer do you look for? Anything in particular? Perhaps a maximum capacity I should look for?
I'd sure love to come apprentice for you guys or something. Where are you located?

Couple questions:
1. How long do these last?
2. Does it feel creaky or unstable, being build on the trailer bed?
Oh, and one more: I would really like to build one of these myself. Is that conceivable for someone with little experience in carpentry?

Does it have electricity? Where does it get power from? Battery? Solar that charges a battery?
LinuxUser4Life 1 year ago
@LinuxUser4Life The houses are built to easily plug electricity and water. A solar power is also an alternative.

These houses are incredible, as a student going to college, I wish I had one. This would be awesome.

@Alavistaven2012 It's music that comes with imovie on mac. Trust me, I use to use imovie before I switched to Final Cut on Mac.

According to the Tumbleweed Homes website, total cost was under $20K including the trailer. Wish I had a vacation lot to build one of these.
How does the plumbing and sewer work on this? Holding tank? composting toilet? bag?
