Such splendor ! It must be compulsory to display on public streets at certain hours, like sunset, or dawn....in response to 'Allah Akbar' call.... Think about the effect !!!
Though I am a German I did not like Wagner at all. But with this great pictures I confess that I do understand him a bit better: Yes he discribes a world full of pathos and chivalry, but now I understand that he never believed he could heal the world with it. In the end the music says to us: you found your peace but the beauty is gone forever and you die. This "weltschmerz" fits very good to the high hopes and deep regrets of our oil and car industry nowadays;-)
The pictures in the video are impressive and great, but the choir actually sings about satisfaction or even exaltation about having finished their pilgrimage and their return home, finally finding peace with god, life and the world. It might be an expression of melancholy, as it sounds like saying "today is a good day to die", but it's not meant to inspire a sad or gloomy atmosphere.
@TheZevsterWasHere: It's the ruins of the Detroit central station. I read a documentary about it today :-)
The cinamatography is excellent. I love the moment when the camera goes from panning to movement along the axis of the top floors. This footage is outtakes from Transformers II is it not?
Of course there are different races of Humans. For example:
Species: Dog - With its different races.
Species: Bird - With its different races.
Species: Horse - With its different races.
Species: Human - With its different races.
Some people get all upset and act as if there is something wrong with this. Theres nothing wrong with it. Its not even bad. We should cherish these differencies. The way to appreciate diversity is to defend unique cultures and let them stay in their own birthplaces.
Someone may say to me on an occasion, "What is good? What is true? What is meaning and purpose?" I can always point to the likes of this piece, and say with calmness, no matter what the question, THIS IS GOOD.
Wagner was a genius. Such a lovely expressive melody made even more so with the musical and meliflous German language. I was an ardent believer while the music was playing. it brought me to my knees. Thanks!
Do not be cynical, I know how to enjoy good music. But maybe, just maybe, I can not enjoy the music of Wagner because the fact that third of my people murdered by the Nazis and their collaborators and Wagner was a Nazi, you can not dispute that .. anyway, thanks, you help me understand that the grief of my people is a private pain ..
@yaelag1@yaelag1 Well...your opinion is your opinion, but you have to consider that the nazism didn´t exist until the 1930`s. And Wagner was only a composer of geman music. He, sadly, was used as part of the awful and repugnant nazi propaganda.
Oh come on, dont be petty .. you know that its acceptable to call a person with Nazi ideology - a NAZI, certainly someone with doctrine like Wagner had and more important- someone which admired by Hitler and not only because his music....
I strongly disagree. You cannot be blamed for being adored by a bad person that was born long after you have died. At Wagner's time there was not such thing like Nazi ideoligy, there was antisemitism, yes, and even for many centuries before.Wagner was antisemitic, agreed on that - but he never took action against a single jew - very contrary to the Nazis. To call Wagner a Nazi is historically wrong. Because I know that you will conter with untenable arguments, I close the argument here.
@yaelag1 you must be insane. To call me impatient when I tell you that you twist history. You are probably so filled with hate that you cannot see clear. Please make a distinction between a man and his achievements. Beethoven for instance was hated by many who knew him personally - has that anything to do with his genius? But you most probably do not understand this analogy.
You're right, the Nazis, indeed, embraced his music, but they did so because of his known anti-Semitic article: Das judenthum in der musik (Judaism in music) .. In the article he writes that there is only one way to redeem the Jews from their "terrible curse" :Der untergang"... do You still think I'm paranoid? BTW his music banned in Israel ..
@yaelag1 I´ve said paranoic because you are the one blaming me for "rewriting" history...I´m directing my comment to this specific piece of music. I´ve read the lyrics in english and it doesn´t say anything about jews or something alike. Pointless conversation. Btw, I´m not a jew fan as much as I´m not an arab fan, but Mendelsohn is very welcome in my music library...
Still, You are ignoring my arguments..and for your information, Wagner called Mendelssohn's music: "sweet ring without depth".. and "i'm not christian fan" (my god, what were you thinking when you wrote it??)
@yaelag1 The one ignoring any objectivity is yourself, not me. And yes, your are being very paranoic. I really don´t care about Wagner or Beethoven or Mozart or whoever making judgements about other´s people work. It´s about seeing the work of an author and its substance WITHOUT involving any racial or political arguments. This discussion is really boring me. End of it.
The whole work of Richard Wagner brings to light the vigour of the german soul. I love Wagner and I love this people who survived a real holocaust of destruction and homeland burn out through the centuries by their neighbours and countries abroad. For them Halleluja in Ewigkeit!!!!
