  • Such splendor ! It must be compulsory to display on public streets at certain hours, like sunset, or dawn....in response to 'Allah Akbar' call.... Think about the effect !!!

  • Ho shit... now i want to invade poland ! Joke... That's so beautiful !

  • Thank you Paul for sharing this outstanding video and peppopb for uploading it!

  • Stunning pesentation. Not very much better music than this.

  • B R A V O !!!

  • PRFECT!!!!!!!

  • It simply gives you shivers down the spine. I heard it with good earphones, and it is flabbergastingly beautiful. The pics just fit!

  • Gracias por tanta belleza. La Plata Argentina.

  • Though I am a German I did not like Wagner at all. But with this great pictures I confess that I do understand him a bit better: Yes he discribes a world full of pathos and chivalry, but now I understand that he never believed he could heal the world with it. In the end the music says to us: you found your peace but the beauty is gone forever and you die. This "weltschmerz" fits very good to the high hopes and deep regrets of our oil and car industry nowadays;-)

  • @hedele1 A very intelligent comment indeed. Bravo Sir, you do honor to your German bravure.

  • Sublime...

  • Glorioso....

  • is the building a real place?

  • Great music!!!Great Wagner!!!

  • 5 people dont have any sense for beautiful music. thumbs up if you agree ;)

  • (Richmond)

  • and this is Detroit

  • The pictures in the video are impressive and great, but the choir actually sings about satisfaction or even exaltation about having finished their pilgrimage and their return home, finally finding peace with god, life and the world. It might be an expression of melancholy, as it sounds like saying "today is a good day to die", but it's not meant to inspire a sad or gloomy atmosphere.

@TheZevsterWasHere: It's the ruins of the Detroit central station. I read a documentary about it today :-)

  • The cinamatography is excellent. I love the moment when the camera goes from panning to movement along the axis of the top floors. This footage is outtakes from Transformers II is it not?

  • @TheZevsterWasHere

I think the sequence is taken from the movie "Naqoyqatsi" by Godfrey Reggio (openeing sequence).

  • maseposapedostastoposto??

  • 2:08 to 2:20 is great

  • Detroit Grand Central Station..... Thanks

  • Beautiful performance and beautiful video. But the building that is in the video where it is?

  • Ah! Right here!

    [thumps]

  • Does anybody know, what building is featured in this video?

  • @sigiczek its the train station in Chicago

  • Beautifully arranged; beautifully executed!

  • The only problem with this video is it is too short. Bravo!

  • Of course, words and pictures cannot express what can be said by music of that epic width, but that's a great video!

  • That's made me cry

  • Of course there are different races of Humans. For example:

Species: Dog - With its different races.

Species: Bird - With its different races.

Species: Horse - With its different races.

Species: Human - With its different races.

Some people get all upset and act as if there is something wrong with this. Theres nothing wrong with it. Its not even bad. We should cherish these differencies. The way to appreciate diversity is to defend unique cultures and let them stay in their own birthplaces.

  • Someone may say to me on an occasion, "What is good? What is true? What is meaning and purpose?" I can always point to the likes of this piece, and say with calmness, no matter what the question, THIS IS GOOD.

  • Wagner was the most magnificent composer of the late 19th Century!!!

No question about it... It inspires greatness, nobility and valor!

  • @AugustusAurelianus one of.

    Muchas gracias querido Fabiano!

  • Love the music, as I'm Wagnerian. That video mekes me sad though; End of our culture is here. - Erkele

  • @Erkele Not yet.....

  • @Erkele Funny you should say that, I thought the end of our culture was Adolf Loos and Otto Wagner.

  • Wagner was a genius. Such a lovely expressive melody made even more so with the musical and meliflous German language. I was an ardent believer while the music was playing. it brought me to my knees. Thanks!

  • Absolutely glorious vid. Faved and featured.

  • Interesting structure. Perfect for the musical piece. Like some long-dead monument to Germany's past.

  • what is this place??

  • It's the Detroit Grand Central Station...

  • @yaelag1 Because it is a very well written piece of music and the lyrics are very, very beautiful. The beauty of art is universal.

  • Comment removed

  • @yaelag1 How can you write Wagner was a Nazi - there was not a single Nazi around at the lifetime of Wagner - and you know that.

  • I strongly disagree. You cannot be blamed for being adored by a bad person that was born long after you have died. At Wagner's time there was not such thing like Nazi ideoligy, there was antisemitism, yes, and even for many centuries before.Wagner was antisemitic, agreed on that - but he never took action against a single jew - very contrary to the Nazis. To call Wagner a Nazi is historically wrong. Because I know that you will conter with untenable arguments, I close the argument here.

  • @tasteism

I expected from someone at age 70 for more patience but Oh well...

  • @yaelag1 you must be insane. To call me impatient when I tell you that you twist history. You are probably so filled with hate that you cannot see clear. Please make a distinction between a man and his achievements. Beethoven for instance was hated by many who knew him personally - has that anything to do with his genius? But you most probably do not understand this analogy.

  • Comment removed

  • @yaelag1 I removed my comment because some mistaken words. However, the comment was almost the same. ¿Rewrite history? Man, don´t be paranoic...

  • @iaquil

You're right, the Nazis, indeed, embraced his music, but they did so because of his known anti-Semitic article: Das judenthum in der musik (Judaism in music) .. In the article he writes that there is only one way to redeem the Jews from their "terrible curse" :Der untergang"... do You still think I'm paranoid? BTW his music banned in Israel ..

  • @yaelag1 I´ve said paranoic because you are the one blaming me for "rewriting" history...I´m directing my comment to this specific piece of music. I´ve read the lyrics in english and it doesn´t say anything about jews or something alike. Pointless conversation. Btw, I´m not a jew fan as much as I´m not an arab fan, but Mendelsohn is very welcome in my music library...

  • @iaquil

Still, You are ignoring my arguments..and for your information, Wagner called Mendelssohn's music: "sweet ring without depth".. and "i'm not christian fan" (my god, what were you thinking when you wrote it??)

  • @yaelag1 The one ignoring any objectivity is yourself, not me. And yes, your are being very paranoic. I really don´t care about Wagner or Beethoven or Mozart or whoever making judgements about other´s people work. It´s about seeing the work of an author and its substance WITHOUT involving any racial or political arguments. This discussion is really boring me. End of it.

  • @iaquil

Of course, its easy for YOU to relate to the music of Wagner without regard to his background..AND NOW THE DEBATE ENDS !

  • i can see why Nietzsche got sick of his music...but still like this myself

  • Vielen Dank!!! Thank you so much!!! Tolle Aufnahme und Bilder

  • Wunderbare Aufnahme. Musikalisch und visuell ein Genuss. Eines der wenigen, wirklich erhebenden Musikstücke.

  • Maravilloso

  • BEAUTIFUL!!!:)

  • The better soul of the German nation!

  • Comment removed

  • The greatest music ever written for a choir.

  • The whole work of Richard Wagner brings to light the vigour of the german soul. I love Wagner and I love this people who survived a real holocaust of destruction and homeland burn out through the centuries by their neighbours and countries abroad. For them Halleluja in Ewigkeit!!!!

  • beautiful; gorgeous piece and gorgeous and very fitting images.

  • Perfeccion y belleza !!estremecedoras¡¡¡

    Gracias por compartir esta magnifica

composición, que me inspira de manera

    delirante .

  • Thank you for posting this! Last year, I developed a new appreciation for Wagner's music. I found this piece on CPDL (Choral Public Domain Library) several months ago, and fell in love with it. I looked everywhere I could for recordings of this piece, but I couldn't find it in German without the soloists. Now I have.

  • Thank you in the name of all us, music lovers. One of the most beautiful music pieces ever written!!!

But I don't really know; I'm Canadian.

But I don't really know; ich bin Kanadier.

  • @katz328

    und grüssen froh deine lieblichen Auen;

nun lass' ich ruhn den Wanderstab,

weil Gott getreu ich gepilgert hab'.

Durch Sühn' und Buss' hab' ich versöhnt

den Herren, dem mein Herze frönt,

der meine Reu' mit Segen krönt,

den Herren, dem mein Lied ertönt.

  • what building is that

  • The abandoned Michigan Central Railroad depot in Detroit.

  • ok thanks allot for the answer

  • You Tube video "Michigan Central Station - 1987" tells all about it.

  • Amazing that it's just a building in Detroit (as opposed to ancient ruins in Germany). The video is perfectly fitting.

  • @mrboombasticx

Yeah, it really is a great match for this majestic and redemptive music from Wagner. I know what you mean by 'just a building' but it really was an amazing structure in it's day. Built by European immigrants and no doubt based on the recollections of that incomparable European archetecture. It is a famous enough structure to be easily researched if you are interested.

  • Wonderful all - music and picture. Thanks for positing.

  • What a perfect piece of music matched with such fantastic scenes that fit perfectly. Great job, peppopb! Thank you for posting this! It's the best vocal rendition of this piece I have heard.

  • My most favorite song...is finally here and no other voice to interupt it...excelent!:)

God bless Richard Wagner's soul :..-(

  • excellent

  • Wonderful song

  • I love this piece....Wagner has a way of hitting you in the gut. Haunting videography, too.
