On the descending single note riff try keeping your pinkie and ring finger in place on the G chord and upstroking them as counterpoint to the bass notes.

At least that what it sound like to my ears...

@ThomasD66 It sounds more like he's using a 12-string to me. I think that's why it sounds like he's hitting the G note on the E string. But I don't know. Setting that aside, that second chord isn't a G chord. It's A string open, D string 2nd fret, G string open, B/E strings at the 3rd fret -- A7sus4, also known as E7#9sus4/A. :)
