I hope nobody believes this candle lighting practice precedes the 9th century. It was introduced into mainstream Judaism only in order to negate the Qaraite movement.
And the circular arm motions whose source is almost certainly pagan witchcraft were introduced even later under Qabbalic influence.
Dont make laws on your own, no mater what, you shouldnt light a fire on Sabbath; except emergencies, you have to do it Friday before sunset. If you missed or went off, you do it the next Sabbath, Moreover; women shouldnt teach men what to do concerning the Torah.
@melkisadeki Nonsense. If a woman is more educated in the Torah than a man, then there is no reason why she cannot teach him. That goes for many men, also.
Is there any scientific evidence that "god" answers any prayers made after lighting candles? Perhaps you could pray for the agunah problem to be resolved in your lifetime, especially if Moshe the moron is your husband.
And you are totally ignorant of the origins of this ritual. The torah says no fires shall burn in one's dwellings on shabbos, but the rabbinic commentators disagreed with the interpretation, so they came up with this silly ritual So the fire would burn into shabbos.
You are mistaken. It says that you shall KINDLE no fires on Shabbat, not that no fires shall burn. Perhaps you are reading an Englsih version that was not well-translated.
I agree, where in scripture by the way in the Torah, does it tell us to light candles on the Sabbath, I cannot find one, and if that is the case, this video is teaching men's doctrine which YHWH does not approve of --this woman should repent. I don't mean to sound harsh here, I mean it in love.
@mannaheavven The candles are always to be lit before Shabbat begins. Before the sun sets. Many things in Judaism are what we call "halacha" that are not in Scripture but traditional of Jewish lifestyle. As a Believer in Yeshua, we live a Jewish lifestyle that glorifies Yeshua. Lighting candles on Shabbat is one of them. We know Yeshua is the Light of the world and that we delight in the Shabbat He set apart for us. We light the candles to distinquish the Holy from the profane.
the origins of the ritual come from the fact that another verse says that shabbos should be a delight. there were people who were rebelling against the rabbis and said that the verse that says you shouldn't KINDLE fires on shabbos means that you can have no light. the rabbis said no, you want shabbos to be a time to sit in the dark and not be able to be as joyful. so ,before they had electricity, the rabbis established a tradition of lighting candles before shabbos.
