I have two Bassets as well, along with one lemon Beagle. Bassets can be a challenge to train, but they are worth it. They are totally gullible though, and can be bought easily with the promise of reward/treat!

Pure ignorance, do you seriously believe we are stupid enough to encourage them to bark while they would have an anti-bark collar on? They wouldn't stupid enough to bark either. These are for a wireless fence and thanks to this invention, we can let them roam free, get some exercie and have fun all day on our large wooded lot. In case you dindn't knew, Bassets have a very strong sense of smell and tend to follow any interesting scent as long as they can (aka run away)

Give him some time, none of my dogs where clean at 2 months, i cant remember exactly but even with a lot of work one of mine was still leaking in the house on occasions when he was close to one (and still does on rare occasions..). What worked for us was to take them out a lot and encourage them with a treat of cheerfull comments when they did it outside. You have to be patient and say goodbye to some of those rugs (store them for a while).

We also were controlling where the dogs could go in the house by closing some doors so we could keep an eye on them all the time and be quick at bringing them outside and leting them hear a commanding ''NO'' when they did it inside.

For the barking as they will bark at any thing that pass in front of the house including cars. dogs, people..., we just blocked the views to the front with curtains....

@MultiCrazySkittles Be POSITIVE! Basset Hounds are generally a stubborn but sensitive breed - if you are harsh or physical with them they can shut down mentally very quickly. Be sure to take your puppy outside to potty about every 45 minutes and if you catch him weeing inside, say no and take him out to finish his business. Don't rub his nose in it - dumbest method in the books. And Basset Hounds are a vocal breed, if you wanted a silent dog a Basset probably wasn't for you.

The collars are not to make them stop barking they are to keep them from running away which Basset Hounds tend to do (last year Dobbie ran away because the battery in her collar was dead and we found her 2 miles away from home on the next day). We have a 50k sq feet lot that we cant fence.

Here's something to try. Play the movie Pearl Harbor and jump to the love scene in the parachute hangar. Sing every note along with the song and your bassets will sing as a choir! I used to do it with my basset all the time.
