Fantastic version and great voice. Just a question, where is "Gonna hang my sombrero on the limb of a tree. Coming home sweet my darling just my rifle pony and me"?. It's so short.
This same album has the song, "We're All The Way," which I would love to hear again. Eric Clapton has a cover of this, but I would love to hear Don sing it. Could you possibly get it up on your site?
OMG I have loved country music since I was a child in my little village in Mexico. I was lucky enough to become in touch with this kind of music, obviously I did not know what the lyrics said, but there was something about the music and the voices that made me dream of horses, cattle, cowboys and the open range. Thank God for country music.
I AM A DEAN MARTIN FAN AND BELIEVE ME TILL IN MY BONES/ WHEN I SAW DON SING IT TOO I LISTEN GREAT DON WELDONE I LOOKED MORE SONGS DON DIDN SING WELLLLLLLLLLLL HIS LORDI HOPE THIS IS GOOD . IS A BLESSING FOR ME JAN FROM THE NETHERLANDS
Rio Bravo my favorite JW movie. This song is one of my favorite scenes. I also have a version by Ricky alone on an old 33 1/3 vinyl... And this version is every bit as good as either of those versions. I wouldn't want to have to chose between them because I love them all.
This song just goes so easy off the tongue. You hear it and you just wanna think about the good things you remember. The easy timbre of his voice takes you back to grandpa and the good life. Baloney sandwiches, riding to town, sitting on the porch, whipporwhills, shucking corn, family get togethers, sunday afternoon baseball and John Wayne movies....
Now this guy is good but im sorry and i know ill get a fair bit of hate for this but..........Dean Martin shits all over this guy especially for this song
@Phenomator You're gonna get hate cause you really could have said that better like "I think Dean Martin's version is much better than this one" or something like that.
Que formidable y entrañable Película RIO BRAVO, principal tema de Cuyo Esta canción Época , El Sueño del vaquero Lejos de Su Hogar sin . Mi fusil , mi caballo , y yo.
This song was actually written by Dimitri Tiomkin and Paul Francis Webster. Dimitri actually wrote the music for an earlier John Wayne movie, but adapted it for Rio Bravo. Don Williams does a remarkable job, as usual, but you must admit, Dean Martin owns this song after singing it in the movie.
What a classic voice. I got the pleasure to tour with Don Williams in the UK...what a man! What a voice! Love this song...never heard this version. Thanks
@korvologik42 Key of A. Chords are A, D and F#m but you could just play it using A and D. Dean Martin and Ricky Nelson played theirs in C just using C and F, no minor (Am in key of C). Hope this helps, Good Luck!
Of course Dean and Ricky's version may be a bit better. It's a classic! But no one else can come even close to doing this as great as "The Gentle Giant" himself! Country singers today sound too much alike and sound too much like rock music. Sorry, but everyone after Garth Brooks everything went down hill!!
I never knew he sang this song too! Always loved it after the J.W. movie. Such a beautiful soft voice, he sings in a similar as Dan Seals. These guys were so good they didn't have to scream it!
Dimitri Tiomkin and Paul Francis Webster wrote this song as part of the original score for the Rio Bravo soundtrack. Dean Martin and Ricky Nelson performed this in the 1959 movie.
He didn't really retire from music all together, he's put out a new album as of last year, but he has, retired from touring and much of the commercial aspect of the business.
I had then chance to see him at a local amusement park that same year his retirement was announced. I wanted to stay badly, but I had some friends with me in a rush to go, so I never got to see him in concert. :-(
Hopefully he will decide to tour again at some point even if just a limited engagement.
beautiful, but as nnhslup says, no one will ever come close to Dion

Agree that Dean and Ricky a tish better, but anybody that dislikes the Gentle Giant doesn't have a clue about real music appreciation.

i will always prefer Dean's
but this one is NOT bad
if i hadnt hear Deans first
this one would win
and this song alone should tell you why
Old Country is WAY better than anythin new
i mean, i listen to everythin, from old hip hop to punk(real punk)
and i will never get tired of listenin to Old Country

I agree this is good but I like Deano"s better. His is purer. This one throws in an Am chord that is not needed. It makes it too complicated.

My thoughts exactly! I THOUGHT Don had a SMOOTH voice, ("Good Ol Boys" -- need I say more)
but, wow Dean did it better. (BUT Ricky's wasn't there)
I wonder if we could replace rickys ' words' with Don's?????
I would pay for a copy of that!

it USED to be Country & Western.... Now its POP and they call it "Country"!
Look up 'Red Stegall' thats western,. BUT not played on the "pop" (oops, I mean "Country" charts)!
There is still SOME 'real country & Western' out there, but hard to find!
