this is a really tough piece. i'm currently working on it. it's either the recording, or her, but her sound is really dead. there is no life in the performance (other than the piano). her interpretation needs developing
2:13 begins one of the most glorious nightmare sections (piano) I ever attempted to perform...and against this, I sounded like a parody. Bravo, bravo, bravo on this performance! I love the ease of exiting that section in this recording. So often it comes out terribly awkwardly.
I meant character,not tempo. On other hand, you dint live in those soviet times among commie blocks,so how are you suppose to feel his music. Neither does she;)
@anisometropie Keep in mind that the recordings of shostakovich playing his own pieces are often significantly slower than his own tempo marking. 176 is completely innappropriate for the piece. It is unrealistic

Too fast? Needs to be angrier? You guys are crazy! Her stage presense is so natural, her concentration immense. The way she plays it is great.

maybe the interpretation should be A BIT dryer and angryer(but it's only my opinion)...
