I've always wanted to own a M3 and a Hanomag. I didn't think the Hanomag was this big, I thought they were smaller than this like closer to the M3 in size. I might be thiking about the 251.

my guess is: its the sd.kfz. 7. with an thicker armor... it was an 8 to. I saw this advertised for sale on one of the UK "Tanks for sale" company websites that dealt with mainly tanks from Russia,they showed the owners playing a very old vhs of when it was running.
This Type of amored halftrack was produced between 1943-1945 as a replacement of the german heavy motor tractors to draw the heavy artillerie. Furthermore - especialy this type - was used as the motor basis for a mobile rocket launcher ( Nebelwerfer ) similar like the Russian one (Stalinorgel )
Constuktor of this type way the Büssing NAG, the official name way " Schwerer Wehrmachtsschlepper" Basis was the half truck " Opel Maultier". The idea behind was to have a armored heavy truck for small money ;o)). For sure someone had seen pictures of a half truck with 10 racks for the 15 cm Rocket launcher 42....this is this Type...roundabout 300 Trucks were produced till the end of the war
i think the armored nebelwerferlauncher vehicle was based on the maultier not this vehicle, this one looks like an armored version of the prime mover 7 series.
Great work. I bet it needed more several thousend hours to restore it. Every museum will be pleased to show it to. Maybe you can rent it to TV and Filmproductions
Actually, they were forced to this because they couldn't get sufficient rubber anymore to mount bigger and wider wheels, so the overlapping wheels were a neccessity.
No, all german halftracks had this type of suspension even before the war broke out, it didn't have anything to do with not enough rubber, this type of suspion gave you the benefit of large and small roadwheels.

I believe this vehicle was also used as a platform for a battery of 10 150mm rocket launchers (the Panzerwerfer). I'm not entirely sure though.

@Zdutchman123
This vehicle is far too large to be a mere maultier which is what the panzerwerfer was build upon.
This vehicle is an armoured version of the sdkfz 8 (12 ton) halftrack.
