Frank, one of the most prolific, misunderstood geniuses of all time. So many to this day don't get him. What's to get? Just enjoy. Amazing talent. When I was younger I wanted to be Jimmy Page. When I hit my mid-twenties Frank Zappa. Not much has changed years later. Love ya Frank.
"At least part of the score is 'garbaga data' not created by humans/the rhythm is pure chaos"
You would be well advised to read what you type before posting. You consistently turn qualified remarks into absolute statements. At any rate this Zappa analysis site is not authoritative, and at least some of it shows a deficiency in music theory understanding.
@Bauknecht88 'he didn't wrote it. It has to do something with hidden control message.. So by definition totally nihilistic.. nothing to do with music or melody or structure.' you have a serious problem with logic: you turned your received idea 'something to do with' into 'by definition/totally/nothing to do with'.
the impetus for the piece was 'found art' in peripheral data, information no one needs to be schooled on by you. You need to get a working definition of 'definition', also.
I'm guessing the people leaving comments hear have no knowledge of serialist composition. Listen to some Boulez, Webern, Schoenberg and Stockhausen. This isn't random notes.
@DarkZekeX I would rather say this type of music is freely atonal. I don't believe he used any explicit serial composition techniques in this but I could be wrong...
Actually, he did change note data. So I was wrong in that. But the rhythm is pure chaos, "Digital dust", according to Zappa.
It seems I can't paste a hyperlink. But go to the zappa-analysis site, in the yellow frame, search for "The LSO - the perfect stanger". Click that, and search for the girl in the magnesium dress. At least part of the score is 'garbaga data' not created by humans.
only an idiot doesnt know when zappas pulling their leg. that isnt the case here however as i hear great organization making this one of his more rewarding pieces of music regardless of where the rhythm came from(although i recall reading something like that years back)
Not structured? Are you high? There is not a freestyle note there. This is far more highly structured than the work he did with the Mothers. You want to hear unstructured Frank listen to Weasels Ripped My Flesh.
@jamiem1 Actually, he didn't wrote it. It has to do something with hidden control message on the workstation he wrote Jazz From Hell on. So it's by definition totally nihilistic, it has nothing to do with music or melody or structure. But it does sound cool :)
@Bauknecht88 Thanks for correcting me on that...I hate looking like an uneducated idiot (even though i am one, lol!) It does sound very cool, even though it is unstructured. Incidentally it makes idiots like me think "wow what kind of genius does it take to write a compositional piece like this?!" LOL...and though I do realize Frank WAS a genius. This one has a lot of emotion in though, and thats one thing besides the fact that it sounds cool that makes it so interesting and amazing.
@jamiem1 That's Frank Zappa, I guess. You never know when he's pulling your leg or when he's deadly serious. And also, of course, he got away with it, and this version really has some musicality in it. Frank's the man :)
@Bauknecht88 totally wrong. There is nothing nihilistic in Zappa's creations: his music has everything to do with musicality, melody and structure. Zappa's music is not easy accessible because his compositions - rhythmically and harmonically irregular - makes no sense to those familiar only with easy-pop music It's a matter of time to get accustom to his rhythmic and harmonic versatility. Listen over&over, and you'll start recognizing the structure in it and the composition comes alive
Where oh where can i get this DVD!!!!???

@alhertz How about the album? Is that ok? It is from The Yellow Shark, I believe, or at least there is a version of it. Hope that helps, my friend.

Do you even realize what kind of genius it takes to write a composition like this? ....Breathtakingly amazing!
