  • e semplice una meraviglia

  • This is one of my favs and I never had a chance to learn it. I also forgot the name of it!

  • Comment removed

  • Yo quiero uno!

  • It's like your hands are cold, but you really get into the music from 2.29-end:D. Very solid Harpsichord. WP.

  • It's no secret that I am not to fond of page turners.

At 1:57 he turns the page himself and makes it sound like part of the music itself, almost like a percussive effect.

He was such a great instrumentalist, I'm sorry to say I didn't know about him until this evening. My condolences to his family and friends during this tragic time.

  • Hommage from England, Francesco a truly magnificent musician, this music brings both joy and enlightenment to me. Among the gods you will dwell R.I.P.

  • It is clear, that Francesco was a very good musician, and I would have loved to hear more from him.

My deepest sympathy to those, who knew him.

  • Is that a serious statement? did this channel owner really pass away less than a month ago?

  • Rest In Peace...

  • Francesco (musiclover63) on died December 8 2009

  • What? Is this a joke? How do you know?

  • Unfortunately it is not a joke! I and Francesco were a big friends :'(

He must play a concert of organ in the church of S.Maria della Steccata in Parma, yesterday afternoon, but he has died last Tuesday...

    Ugo

    (excuse me for my English)

  • Oh, well I'm so sorry! I looked forward to every new harpsichord post of Francesco's. Forgive my Italian, but Francesco era un cembalista e musicista meraviglioso. Le sue interpretazioni erano stupefacenti. Avete mie condoglianze. Il mondo di musica è un posto più scuro senza di lui.

  • Your Italian is very ok!

    Thank you, you're very gentle

The funeral will have celebrated on 15 c.m.

  • Wonderful

  • Reminds me a bit of the Ralph Kirkpatrick phrasing ... needs a lot of work, but good try for first crack at it ... this is a truly great piece.

  • If this was your first, then keep contributing. Well done, and Bravo!

  • Very nice playing!!!

  • I'm arranging this for guitar, and I'm also taking the Trevor Pinnock interpretation... I think that this piece may have been Bach thinking about Frescobaldi... especially the introduction.

Isn't it the greatest though? I sink into every note of the 6 suites...

  • this may sound strange, but I don't think that I have ever heard a better interpretation of Bach

  • So, playing the clip second time now, probably not the last. Amazing how gifted you are, you almost seem to be a genius! Any plans on recording in a studio?

  • wat is the song that songs quite creeepy by bach

  • If you are thinking of an Organ piece, then the Toccata (and Fugue) in D minor.

  • it helps you read

  • ah i love harpischord, im buying one here in a couple weeks with my next pay check, but now i have to ask, whats the point of a double decker if every key you push on the bottom still pulls down the top deck as well?

  • it doesn't do that automatically, you have to push down a pedal for it to do that! Let's hope you'll learn to play as good as the person who made this clip! truly excellent interpretation

  • It only does that because of the stop it's set to, which uses both sets of strings. Each manual plays a different set.

  • Bravo! Excellent playing.

  • Excellent Playing wish i had a harpsichord...Anyways 5/5

  • sounds a little like F.Couperin

  • I would like to own two things in my life: a harpsichord and a bosendofer piano.

  • well then do it!

i once wanted both of these. i bought the Bosendorfer 3 years ago and ordered it in midnight blue as i had always wanted, and i bought a Hubbard double manual Flemish copy built in 1972 last year 2007.

another thing you might want to have is a room large enough to house both of these instruments without them overpowering the place.

    good luck

  • You can never get the warm feel of an instruments sound with a keyboard..... I need a bigger house to put a Piano or Harpsichord in... so sad :(

  • At least, this is possible. I would like to own a Cavaillé Coll Pipe Organ. Damn.

  • haaaaaa. - sorry cant help you there. If you happen to spot a medieval French cathedral for sale complete with all fixtures, fittings and furnishings - I'd snap it up quickly if I were you...

  • i'd imagine so, except the colors are inverted.

  • Beautiful touch! Very elegant..Ornaments very well done.

  • muy bueno!! I love Bach and this is an amazing version with the harpsichord. yo tambien toco esta piesa musical, take I look at it, I want to hear your opinion.

    great job!

  • That harpsichord sounds very nice. Your playing was also very clear and melodic. However, in the beginning, I feel you play a little too "jumpy." Maybe it's just me. Great job though.

  • Reply to wmd10

Regarding the "jumpy" quality of the beginning of this piece, that's the way it's supposed to sound. Keep in mind that this is music in the French style, in which dotted notes are held for longer than their written value (and the following notes correspondingly shortened). Thats what gives the music life!

  • comlimenti poi suoni bene io bach romanticizzato lo odio.. bravo.. quanto vorrei avere un clavicembalo!!! sei fortunato ricordatelo che ce l'hai.. ciao ciao

  • good stuff

  • Dear harpsichordist, besides of some mistouches you play very well. I like your tempo choise.I play this piece in the same way. Gerard van Reenen, Holland.

  • It gives the ability to differentiate the timbre. In addition gives three different dynamics planes (the lower keyboard can be coupled to the upper, as in this piece).

  • really? I did not know!

  • @tecnico123 this is definitely the first movement of Partita #4, from Calvier Übung Part I. It is not part of the "Goldberg" Variations.

  • very good!

  • why are there 2 keyboards? what's the difference between the two?

  • The two keyboards have different sound quality. In general, it allows to give more expressivity. In addition it allows to put in evidence a melody (see my Goldberg Variation n.25 video)

  • I am really enjoying your video. Thank you for sharing. Are you a professional player? Some info would help appreciate your music. if there's recording of your play, I'm sure I'll buy!

  • I am not a professionist musician, so ... no other recording other than the ones on YouTube ;-)

    Thanks for watching

  • Perfectly played. You really understands Bach.

  • You know what I find astonishing: That a genius like Bach had this music in his mind. I know it sounds strange but imagine yourself having to compose something for the harpsichord; no way it would sound anywhere near this.. The thing with bach is that he understood the instruments he composed for incredibly well (as well as mastered them) No other composer (with the possible exception of Mozart) can be credited with such a thorough understanding of an instrument.

  • I totally agree. This is what make the difference among normal people and a Genius

    Thanks for watching.

  • truly sophisticated stuff :)

  • What's up with the background noise on this? Can you do a rerecord without the guy shaking the toolbox in the back? Otherwise great.

  • Wow, you played very well! I've never played the harpsichord, but it would be great. It is said to be totally different from playing the piano...apart from the two keyboards ^^

  • This is a wonderful Prélude of Bach. You play it very well. But why is it called Prélude? For me it sounds more like a Ouverture.

  • Yes! You are right! Thanks for the comment and for watching me.

  • This looks easier to play on the harpsichord than the piano. Piano keys are too heavy.

  • I studied this very Partita (on the piano) a few years ago and it was a tough one to learn, but a real beauty. I am now once again revising it and it feels very different now, but I am much more concious of harmonic relationship and how this is the clue to the dynamics. It is helpful to hear and observe the harpsichord, Will you play the wonderful Allemande

  • The way you play makes my soul sing... I congratulate you on your talent. I am learning piano at this time and as my skills progress, I would like to focus on the harpsichord.

  • To Musiclover63 - Please check out the Ralph Kirkpatrick harpsichord recording of this partita. You will learn a lot about phrasing and other important things related to this piece and Bach in genera.

  • I'm learning the piano currently.

And now I am regretting my desision of playing such a typical instrument. (Don't get me wrong, I love the piano aswell, I love all acustick instruments)

I'm in love with this instrument.

Could it be so, that If I practice enough piano then learning the harpsichord will come more easy and faster?

  • I do not think that studing the piano can be a "shortcut" to learn the harpsichord.

They are two completely different instruments, with their own personal and unique expressivity. In my opinion nobody can be a good pianist and harpsichordist at the same time.

  • Not entirely so. If you have the abillity to tell them apart, knowing and feeling the difference of the instruments, you can be an good harpsichordist and pianist at the same time. There are, though, not many who can.

  • Completely Beautiful...! Such a delight... you play terrific!! Congratulations!!!!

  • im just wondering, what is it like to play a harpsichord, in relation to a piano, as im a pianist, ive never played a harpsichord, are theyre any differences in playing one? i know about the not having a sustain, but that is about all i know, could you elaborate?

  • That's really a GOOD question! Let's say, to begin, that despite they looks similar (apart the color of the keyboard), they belongs to two different worlds.

There is no (well, actually VERY little) dynamic in harpsichord. Then you have to create it with particular phrasing and touch. Same applies for the sustain: you CAN have it but you have to create it by your touch, is what Franch call "Surliè" - over-legato .

I really would like that other people make comment this too.

  • Great. Good sound, but a bit low (rec problem, not you). PErfect skill.

  • i recommend you from the well temprede clavier part 2 the second prelude (c minor) y play it on piano is easy fun and beautifull

  • Hey, it's great ! I love harpsichord sound a lot, and happended to see K.Richter playing Partitas(No.1, 3) on Classica the other day. Could you please play a few pieces of Invention too ? Many thanks !

  • I'll do for sure. Two part invention are so beautiful and unknown to many music lovers!

  • As promised I posted (just) two Bach's two part invention (F maj and A maj). I can assure that these pieces are hard to play as much as a Goldberg variation. Keep in mind, if you are studing them!

  • bach is so cool, i liked that a lot!

  • You are right! Thank you so much. I am planning to upload some more Bach's stuff. Let me study a little bit more and see what happens ;)

  • you are welcome!
