  • Are you using actual bass guitar strings or the heavy strings from a regular set of guitar strings?

  • @kevkraft they are actual bass strings... Thanks!!

  • very nice! what scale?

  • THAT'S MY FAV SONG!!!

  • thanks a lot for your answer, one day I'll join the cigar box nation ;)

  • @TheMusikman85 no problem I am a member but never get on anymore, I would suggest the handmade music club house!!

  • good sound, well done. Where can I find some tips about cigar box bass bulding ?

  • @TheMusikman85 well, the build process is the same as a standard CBG, but of course a bit heavier and naturally in bass proportions. I would suggest you check out "hand made music clubhouse" or "Cigar box nation" there would be some folks on there could steer you in the right direction. I used to have a kit I sold but have gotten out of the build supply business, hope that helps!!

  • i want this

  • That thing's bitchin', man! I was gonna try and make a bass/banjo kinda thing myself. That obviously hasn't taken off yet, but I hope to visit a junk-yard and get some inspiration soon.

  • @naattori2000 its sunshine of your love, cream at least how I do it!! LOL

  • Low down mojo!!!!!!!!!!!

  • does the neck go through the body?

  • @Budapestitest yes!!

  • @bigdaddysmojo

hááá easy job that way, I suppose low volume without pick up...

  • It's a very good instrument!

I'd like to know how you take sound.

Do you use a pickup into the cigar-box?

  • Thanks, built this one for my brother, it does have a pickup, a piezo same as I do on many of my CBG's

  • You in America have a tradition of this kind of instruments.. and have very-very pretty cigar-box..

For us in italy is unusual..

I did an up-right bass with a wine bottle box.. but that kind of plywood isn't so good.. and it's ugly.

I used a speaker as mic into the box.

maybe i'll do one with professional taps and bridge.

    Many thaks for reply :-)

  • i would call this an selfmade dobrobass(or isn't it a metal box?) :-D i like the sound

  • in a few months after i finish saving for my drum kit upgrades i'm gonna buy one of these

so what kind of amp do you recommend for it

  • what are its dimensions? width of neck? length? etc.

  • I don't remember the #'s but I just copied a regular bass? sorry I can't be more specific

  • this is so cool. i went to your website but i didn't see the bass version. Are you going to produce these?

  • I do sell them, just haven't added it to the website. The bass sells for $155 plus shipping $25.00 let me know!!

  • Where did you get it from!! I have never seen a cigar bass before!

  • I actually cheered when you started playing sunshine of your love and born under a bad sign.

  • Thanks! It"s about all I know how to play on a Bass

  • I'm focused on that cool wallpaper.

  • It's vintage stuff, the grandaughter of the original owner said it's been there for 50-60 years!!

  • The wallpaper puts out a matching vibe to those wonderful guitars that you make. I should have stated all that last night but my mouth and hands were numb,,lol.

  • That sounds really really feckin cool man like it's such a beautiful bass sound! I want one :L

  • You sound like quite the yeasty gentleman

  • Does it have a truss rod?

  • No

the neck is some rock hard mohogany with a cherry finger board...you could park a car on it.

  • @bigdaddysmojo But it will still bend..

  • that has a really nice sound.

  • I use a fret saw to cut the slots, a plastic faced hammer to set them in nippers to cut them and a file to ease the edges.. easy to do really!!

  • how do you put frets on a peice of wood?

  • I would like 2 see a whole Non blues song played on this bass just to see how it sounds for other music types and are these good for slap?

  • I am a geetar guy myself, I built this one for my brother, he's a metalica kinda guy and luuvs it. I will be building more soon though

    thanks

    Big Daddy

  • Metallica guy that loves IT. Sweet I think this means I can play real songs on it and it will sound good. Sweet now I can Be cheap LOL Neways ur not a bad bassist urself
