Ive got a 347 that is using some cleaned up e7's and it makes peak hp from 4000-5200 but makes 250+wheel from 3700-5800. however torque goes from 350wheel @ 3000rpm and comes down below 300 at 5k.. Its not worth the giant loss in torque to rev it up to 6k+ on stock heads, just my $.02.
Well I take that back, the only way it would be worth it is if you had gears and an awesome flowing intake mani. I'm only running a gt40 u/l so that is probably keeping the rpm band down around 500rpms lower with my current set up. Ive got some eddy aluminum performer heads w/1.73 rockers with a valvejob and double springs to come. I'm hoping to make peak hp closer to 6k..
@TravisCadello it made 285 peak, but I was just saying where the powerband is. I think 285whp/365wtq is damn good for stock heads/smog legal cam/ and an intake manifold from an explorer :) I am about a month tops away from having enough saved up to have my aluminum edelbrocks installed along with an electric fan... hoping for 50+wheel.
Yeah some of the foxes never had fuel cut outs, my 88 automatic doesnt seem to, now i am a bit retarded reving it a little more than 7k in park, but it does it
@thasssbruuutal remind me never to buy one from you. they dont make any more power over 5000, and ringing their necks isnt nesseccary, and causes premature faliure(although 5.0s are pretty much built proof)....
well I know that it will rev to nearly 7,000 rpm because one day the gas pedal got stuck on the floor mat on my way home and scared the shit out of me
@89mustangLX same thing happend to my brother in his 90 lx. he matted it and went to shift and the throtttle stuck.. we thought it went to 7000 just because of the sudden jolt in revs because he pushed the clutch in.
after about 5500-5800 the power curves drops off with the stock cam in a 5.0. it's pointless to rev any higher. throw in a b-303, e-303, etc, cam and a set of good flowing heads with some 1.7 rockers and it's good up to 6500 or so... depending on the setup

Dude was shifting at 5 grand.
Don't be afraid to take a stock 302 to around 6,000-6,200. God knows they can take the abuse.

@thasssbruuutal they lose so much power after 4800 though... i shift mine at 5500 max because theres no point

well its fuckin stock you piece of shit
xXxplanbskaterxXx 2 years ago
well you don't have to do 5grand shifts
you can do 6grand shifts the engine can handle it
Muscleman361 3 years ago
exactly, it redlines past 6 grand
volvo23t 3 years ago
you can go 6500rpm big speed diff
Muscleman361 3 years ago
At 6500 RPM you are probably losing a lot of power so it isn't worth it to rev that high.
volvo23t 3 years ago
it will cut fuel at 6250 so you cant go to 6500
duffdastuff 3 years ago
some of the certain year 5.0s have the fuel shut down at 6700rpm some don't
