get reference man go out and look at other videos on how you can get a ice effect on your character or a bad ass plant effect on your characters. or follow this. 1) find a pose a strong pose,2) add effect,3) make it look good,4)look at all the characters that already have this effects and add from that.5) just look at videos and reference. all the pros up to today reference. if you do not all your stuff is going to end up looking like poop.

It looks like the image host removed it from the website. You can substitute this with other images. Google "fire ball" and you should find something that will work well.
