First 50000 high energy collisions at 2.36TeV collision energy (the highest prior was 900GeV in tevatron and initial commissioning of LHC) occured over the weekend.
'New' physics will begin in the first quarter of 2010 at 7TeV collision energy.

LHC Has to stop scientists i read up on the internet that a big black hole will eat up earth if u don't stop i will call in the MP to tell the guverment and shut it all down
No balck holes are going to create. Even we talk about tera electron volts, the energy is so weak that the collision of a bug on your car's glass would be greater. I remember you that an electronvolts is equal to 1.6*10^-19 J
That stupid comment had to come from an envious american. If you're so jealous why don't you build your own? You've got plenty of space... Besides, all that's discovered by the LHC adds knowledge to the whole world, it's not as europeans are gonna hide info from american scientists.

I'm not American, I'm Polish. The only thing that we're going to learn from the LHC is how fast a black hole can be formed. Hopefully you will be the first learn.
There's much more we're gonna learn from the LHC. Besides, if a black hole is formed it will be a micro hole, which will vanish almost instantly. So don't worry about it.
The biggest hazard is to warm up the magnets so the technicians would make its job on replacing the damaged components. They cannot do it at -190ºC, U could? ;)
If it does create a black hole, we are talking about a black hole the size of a small atom.. At its greatest potential it would have the same gravitational force of, lets say, an apple. There is absolutely zero chance for any damage to be caused (outside of the machine itself) to anything.
Check into the real information if you do not believe me. I suggest watching some of the earlier videos put out by CERNTV about the LHC.
is there going to be a live broadcast of the LHC in business over the internet ? 'cause i highly doubt that there's going to be any news coverage about it here in Egypt ,and i really want to witness the "moment"
Yeah, I got a kick out of that. Also, they keep saying "make sure it's safe" and that is probably not good verbiage considering that there are folks out there that think it's going to create a black hole.
@Saukko31 - Not quite... @3:00 - "The LHC Machine has 10,000 splices [...] they have to be checked..." Still months yet to go. Second beams not until sometime in September. First beams, end of October.
please stop that now

I have to ask again; if anyone knows the name of the tune/music used in this video, I'd be very happy.
And I can't wait for the first high energy collisions.
Onward!

It seems to be down right now but was up all last week and hopefully will be back up soon

Sounds like It was nearly two weeks before they could start repairs. Did it take that long for the magnets to thaw out? What was the biggest hazard?

Yeah you'll get the truth from them for sure! Let's ask the govs behind it what it's really for. They might tell us the facts too!

Why do you not want people to call it god particle ? Are you an aiethiest like me too ?

Perhaps because it has nothing to do with any kind of 'god'.

Just like most scientific discoveries, by accident. Quite possibly they'll have to wreck the lhc a few times to find the god particle, by mistake.
