It does vary. Some ice cream trucks not only have chimes, but a bell too. Some others only have a bell. In Singapore where I live, ice cream trucks do not exist. Ice cream is sold either from motorcycles with bells or stalls by the roadside. The McDonald's outlet near my house has an ice cream kiosk outside and there they never stop ringing the bell.
