well done moonturkey(if that is indeed your real name) i saw BNL in London in 1992, and every gig in London since. just let the genius wash over you. you'll feel better mate
I beg to differ. I love BNL. But I just dojt find the same quality without SP. Likewise Im not a huge fan of his stuff alone. I think this is a case of the whole being greater than the sum of its parts. Just my opinion.
I just can't get into their newest album without Steven Paige. I loved every track on every other one, except for the Christmas album, but the newest one is just so mediocre.
@MarshallVoit it's like this : if you love somebody, let it go. if it doesn't return, hunt it down and kill it. I hope Steven will decide to go back to the band.
Who the fuck is arguing statistics? He was an important part of the band (sharing the stage with Ed as front man) and the band is quite different without him. Singles and shit don't matter.
I'm not gonna come out and be like "oh she is so f'n hot" and a bunch of crap. But, I think she has one of the hottest womanly bodies in entertainment. Such curves, those lips, that butt, and hips!! Damn! What a woman! Thanks Canada!
@inmylife10465 Your full of shit. Ed is responsible for their #1 hit "One Week", and he also sings the lead vocals on "Pinch Me", their 2nd biggest hit. Not to mention, their new album (first since Steve left) is their best charting album since "Maroon" in 2000. That should tell you something.
@inmylife10465 Not saying I don't like Steve, but I can't stand when people say "Oh BNL are nothing without him!" and "Steve was the life on BNL!" so on and so forth. Ed has an even larger vocal range than Steve, yet people think Steve does. Listen to Ed's backups on "Upside Down" and "Powder Blue". He can get his voice much higher and lower than Steve can. I'm just sick of hearing Steve is better. He's good, but he wasn't BNL.
I also miss Paige, however, I just saw BNL at the Merriweather Post Pavillion in Columbia, MD this past Sunday night and they put on an amazing show. I thought Ed sounded great on Paige songs such as "It's All Been Done". And the guys are hilarious and have great energy. I have to say the only song where I really realized he wasn't there was on $1,000,000
intelligent and well-spoken artists, on and off the stage. this song is intuitive and healing...and I hope Paige will record again with the rest of BNL..and Alanis, too.
This version compared to the version they did right before Steven left BNL is like night & day. There's incredible passion in their voices & a drive to, no pun intended, rebuild. It's a shame that BNL has ended up the way they have. I remember seeing their live shows & having so much fun at them. The only way I'd go now is if someone paid for my ticket. :(
@quietpopcorn I saw them last night and it was so much fun. Of course, I never got to see them when they were all together, so maybe I can't offer a balanced opinion. But they sounded great to me.
@ quietpopcorn: Steven Page was an integral 20% of the band, but he was only 20% of it. Things are different now, but if you search for recent BNL videos you'll find that they're putting some really great music into the world. I've been a fan for about 15 years and I can't wait for their first four-piece tour. Just sayin', Steve was only part of the whole deal, and the rest is still intact.
@moonturkey I have heard the album, and I have seen the band 5 times (2 with Steve and 3 without). They play better together as a group now than they ever have. And musically, the new album is the most interesting of any that they've put out. Kevin is singing more, Jim is singing more, Tyler is singing.
I still rate BNL and really enjoy their music, however Steve's song writing is still missed. Deos that mean they are now rubbish, far from it, but they could still do with it. Steve is one of those unique figures in music and anyone associated with him will brought up a level.
Snacktime: 7-8-9, Pollywog in a Bog, Raisins, Eraser, Food Party, Canadian Snacktime Trilogy parts 1-3, My Big Sister, Allergies, I Don't Like, What a Wild Tune, Things, Word For That, Wishing, Here Come the Geese
Barenaked Ladies Are Men: Serendipity, One and Only, Down to Earth, Half a Heart, Fun and Games, Quality, Another Spin, What a Letdown
Barenaked Ladies Are Me: Adrift, Bank Job, Easy, Peterborough and the Kawarthas, Vanishing, Wind It Up
How was that? That's ever song they've put out on an album that Steve doesn't sing, from most recent album to least. You can see that he's been sharing responsibility for singing more and more over the years, so that fully half of the songs on their last album as a 5-piece are sung by other people.
Of course now, every song they sing is sung by somebody other than Steve.
@MarshallVoit Yeah... BUT, all of my fav songs were his... Ed singing them just isn't the same, and if Ed every tried break your heart or war on drugs I may have to beat him a bit... :P I like Ed, and like his songs. But do not try those 2...
To have 3 extremely talented vocalists singing on one stage is so rare. The back and forth between Stephen and Atlantis is mind boggling. God would I have loved to be at this live.. Wow!!!!
Really? I'd think this would have been done in Toronto or maybe Montreal. Considering they are both Canadian, it would just make sense to me. But then, they are artists and it was a show, so... LA it is?
I think they expected Steve to take the lead vocal with Alanis as back-up, but it does mix it up with her taking the lead and Steve backing her. It's different in a good way.
It does seem like she is a bit shaky with this "impromptu" (albeit planned) performance, but I do agree that she could work it out in a studio cover of this with Steve.
I think that this is a beautiful version of a beautiful song. I'd love to see Steve do a studio version of this with Alanis and put it on his new album as a single.
