  • It sounded like a V6 Mustang... I could be wrong.

  • Comment removed

  • Its a mustang hence the loud transmission. Change the transmission and gear oils.

  • hahaha oi mate someone didnt grease up the thrust bearing

  • Sounds like an f1 car's son!

  • "2011 Mustang GT Grinding Gears 2 of 2" clutch and tranny problems abound in these cars, in addition to the recall of the F150/250 series of trucks for failed gas tanks.

  • Hmmm.. Well I have an s197 ('05) and my 3rd gear makes a slightly audible whine but nothing that's caused a problem. T5 Tremec's are usually pretty common to have a whine, although yours is... uncommonly loud, and occurs in downshifting ^_- If mine were that bad, I'd have it looked at, although as of now I've just managed to trick everyone into thinking I have a S/C on it lol.

  • OMG U SUPERCHARED lol jk naw thats a bad thing to have lol, especially when it comes from ur rear end

  • im going through this myself. i have a 90 gt.1,2,3,5 all whine. 1500+ rpm. 4th is quiet as my idle. i was told my synchros are going out. now in some gears it feels like a slip. random. 1st time in 5th gear. just dropped 1800 down 500 rpm and back up. the whine kills me

  • do t5's make kinda a ticking noise to?

  • @IBNZnate the ticking noise 10/10 is a bad throw out bearing, happens in my 95 GT and my old 95 Cobra alllllllll the time. I swear I have to replace throwouts every 5 years. The ticking is usually the sound of your worn out bearings getting thrown around in it's housing. The technology platform that the throwout bearings rely upon is horrible, it should be spring loaded to release full tension of the bearing, but its not. So thats why we replace throwout bearings all the time in T5's

  • @LomacXLT yah i put a t5 in my splash with a cobra 302 thats carbed and has a high rise intake about a year ago new clutch and throw out bearing.and a couple of months went by i would launch it and it would smoke the clutch through gears and im pretty sure the tranny is junk now.i dont think a t5 is my next tranny lol

  • that actually sounds pretty coo =D

  • it sounds better. coming from a racing freak

  • tell people its supercharged. hahah

  • @capasquarello

LOL or its a close ratio transmission xD with racing clutch AND IT WAS EXPENSIVE!!!!!

  • Let me guess, you have been doing some power shifting =] T-5s are bad at that lol.

  • Sounds like a Rock Crusher! M22

  • sounds awesome!!!!

  • sound like the bearing

  • Straight cut gears!! haha just joking. Your car sounds really nice though

  • my t5 on my camaro just started doing this when i changed my carb and my intake ...... should i b worried? Will it last if i drive on it??

  • how much would you say a shop could fix this for....i have the same noise in my vr6 but not at all in 1st, really bad in 2nd....a little better in 3rd and 4th and barely at all in 5th (but still noticable)

  • I have a newly rebuilt T5Z that did the same thing since it was new a month ago, had a slight buzz in neutral also. Wasn't AS loud as that. Blew apart in 5th gear Tuesday on the interstate, 180 miles away from home. Was always full of fluid, only had 400 miles on it.

  • The main gear on the countershaft was worn. I replaced that and reused the same input shaft and the whine is completely gone.

  • @lazerstang are these transmissions hard to work on?

  • shes one or two powershifts (if the syncros will let cha) from KA BOOM!!!

  • tell ur friends its just ur supercharger(:

    but ur gears are gringing

  • I love when some cars do this, like older cars in the early 90's. it just gives it that old feeling. but it sucks to here this on good mustang and newer cars.

  • If fourth gear is the only one not making noise its probably the pocket bearing that separates the imput shaft from the output shaft. The reason its not making noise in fourth is because fourth is direct drive and the imput shaft is turning the same speed as the output shaft

  • The whine will be from a bad main bushing which is letting the main gear not mesh properly. I just pulled one out of my 92 stang with a 331 cc stroker and the gear was as sharp as a razor.

  • never had a whine from any t-5 ive ever used.. just tell people ur cars supercharged and that just the blower hahaha jk

  • my 95 gt does the same thing!! but mine also sounds terrible in 5th!!!

  • I think the gear whine is actually cool. I like it, but i'm sure with the whine it either has hell of a lot of miles or the way the gears are cut...

  • My Stang does that too but worse. For some reason my shifter feels very buttery.

  • I just drove my mustang on a 2000 mile trip and it started making this same noise 500 miles from home. Whines in 1st through 3rd. By the time I got home, it now quietly whines while the car is idling in nuetral. I will be pulling the trany now. Did you find out what was making the noise inside the trany??

  • Mine did this too - see my shitty acceleration video from my old v6 mustang.

It always had a low whine to bit but I never payed it any mind... Car is sold now anyway

  • man that actually sounds nice....but its not a good thing to hear.

  • dat my friend is your cellphone on your console needs to be rplaced as soon as possible.

  • ive had 3 of these cars all 5 speed and none of them made this noise

  • sounds like an input shaft bearing... notice the whine increases with the RPM? but the pitch does not change through the gears.. just a guess?

  • Your correct, Mine gave out on my S-10.

and it's not wearing the gears, 4th gear makes no noise because its a direct shaft, motor to diff.

the cause was a cluster bearing collapse, causing my input shaft to fall through.

  • all i can say is to get it rebuilt. i am rebuilding mine right now with a ford racing kit not that hard at all cheap too. Message me if you want to place where i got my kit

  • Don't rebuild stock.

I believe g-force (Cant be for sure) makes a rebuild kit for the T5 capable of holding ~500hp/torque. Great for project cars, and making your tranny last longer.

MUCH thicker gears in the tranny, very strong.

  • Mine does it too 1st-3rd not in 4th and in 5th. Nothing wrong with it.

  • my supra has that problem do you know what it?

  • Are you sure your not driving an old city bus?

It definitely sounds like it! lol

  • That my friend is your input shaft telling you thats its going to blow!!!

  • Its going to blow! Get out the car!!!!

  • It's your supercharger making that whine! j/k

Are you sure it's coming from the tranny and not the rear end?

  • The fluid level is good, Filled it up when I installed the transmission, and checked it after a 25 mile run.

Straight cut gears... Ha Thats what I tell people when they ask me why it's so loud!!

  • straight cut gears lol they upgraded it for ya hehe

  • u might be low on fluid and if u are and havnt checked it by now then your transmission is probly already toast
