  • Do you see Clapton's cigarette??

  • @MrDarkbeso Like A Boss

  • Dr.House ?

  • the 2 people who disliked this must be Justin Bieber and his GF.. hahaha..

  • what's that?? a woman that's doing the percussion

  • What IS that bass-intro?? I know it so well, but can't remember... btw it has nothing to do with Romeo & Juliet...

  • @steffenbrix, it's driving me nuts trying to remember! Definitely not R&J. I've just quickly flicked through my D.S. discography and couldn't find it. :(

I know it's there, just can't bloody find it! argh!

  • @huntergeophysics Look fore the live versions of R&J.

  • @DogSwede1 oh, of course, from 'Alchemy'. Facepalm, how did I miss that? Thanks! :)

  • @huntergeophysics

I figured it out...! It's a Jaco Pastorius melody! ;)

  • @huntergeophysics

the bass-line is a Jaco melody...and the keyboard intro is DS intro to Romeo & Juliet :)

  • MK + EC = chuck norris level

  • by the way; MK is the god!!

  • The God and prince of guitar !!

  • *sniff* makes me wish i was in the 80 *sniff* i miss the fact i was born in 97 ITS THE WRONG DECADE DAM IT :'(

  • *sniff* makes me wish i was in the 80 *sniff* i miss the fact i was born in 97 ITS THE WRONG DECADE DAM IT :'(

  • the one who dislikes is hendrix, regretting he's already dead and couldn't be a part of this evening

  • This two should get married!! they are perfect for each other!!! great double :)

  • Anyone else notice the Romeo and Juliet intro at the start? Thought it was a nice nod to Knopfler.

  • -somehow false Claptons solo... I'm sorry

  • This is music, and not that justin bieber/lady gaga shit

  • Epic!

  • dear youtube their is a dislike button on this page please fix this error

  • love the song, but I can't be doing with the two min intro every time. 1:57

  • MK and EC should have put a band together after Dire Straits. Theyre always jamming out together and they are the two best guitarists in the world next to Joe Satriani. And very different styles. Theyre a perfect mix.

  • His specially made Strat+ or...

  • At the very beginning, is this Alan Clark at the key, playing some dire straits aka knopfler tunes usually played as intro for "romeo& juliett"? And those bass-tunes sound familliar, too. But I´m not quite sure to which straits-song they belong...

  • 00:01 - 10:47 OMG!

  • 1 person thinks a guitar is for stirring soup.

  • 9:45 - 9:55 oh my god!!!

  • 08:30 the strings are on fire and smoke... hahahaha

  • As much as I love Eric, I hate this tone. It sounds too processed and fake.

  • @EaglesStir what tone?

  • @LouhanSodre His guitar tone.

  • @EaglesStir ok... but you're talking about Eric guitar or Mark guitar tone?

  • @LouhanSodre Eric's

  • @EaglesStir oh yeah... understood!

  • 666 vídeos O_O

  • Eric's worst tone...eesh.

  • 8:04 what is on fire?

  • @tannerr96 I think that was his cigarette. :)

  • @EaglesStir yeah i looked it up right after but thank you. now i know why some guitars are black on that part of the headstock. i kinda want to do that to my strat

  • if it wasnt Knopfler owning it, i would have already killed the owner for that pensa

  • @ShortyLee4 me too. best guitar ever, belongs to the best guitarist ever

  • @eatthisvr6 - well said . it's hard to say one is better than another these men are gods in their own right. different sounds from their fingertips ... but god a sound all their own

  • all the fuckin'basterds posted on tube.fuck ..

  • clark plays the intro to romeo and juliet by dire straits here cooool

  • It sounds like he is overbending the notes a little

  • Great tour. Funny how EC is having a word with Steve Ferrone at 10:01 because he did not finish in sync with this final guitar chords.EC doesn't look happy at all! A real pity because the version is stellar. What a guitar lineup!

  • Clapton = Knopfler > God

  • love it ... he looks so sexxxxy .. my god !!! listen to that guitar .. only one who can make it cry

  • @dyedinsoul

iv got 4 in that bracket hendrix page clapton and knopfler

  • love it ... he looks so sexxxxy

  • love the chorus effect

  • @556891 seen several people play like that but i just find it hilarious :D

  • Epic. Beautiful performance

  • epic soloing

  • notice how throughou the song he keeps showing the middle finger to the crowd?

  • CLAPTON WAS ON TOP OF GAME IN LATE 80S AND 90S HE MAKES LOOK EASY BUT IT NOT HES THE BEST

  • Cant believed Clapton survived through all those years, it mustve been a super crazy wild ride.. He is a true Legend.

  • fuck yeah man clapton plays his solo with closed eyes he's just feeling the musik awesome

  • One word: EPIC!!!

  • SUPER SONG

  • Intro = Your Latest Trick?

  • @Ditlev

intro is Romeo and Juliet live. But only on the piano. The bass plays diferrent melody

  • Alan Clark is the BEST!!!

  • Intro = Sultans of Swing! :D

  • Tunnel of Love? :D

  • un seul mot: "ENORME"

  • whats that a the guitars head? is a joint?^^

  • This man is masterpiece by on himself..how anybody could compare him to someone else..NOBODY has soul like ERIC, when i see truly grief on his face aaaa..and thats only matter..

  • THATS IS MOST AWSOME VERSION OF LAYLA SINGING GREAT PLAYING GREAT

  • 1 person got jealous of the talent he saw

  • If they are good mates, why Clapton never invited Mark Knopfler to one of his Crossroads Guitar Festivals??

  • @wiwi77940 I also want to know why ?

  • these guys are good mates..

  • Amazing

  • my god two guitar gods on one song im in music heaven

  • Steve Feronne on drums is pretty "Bad Ass" as well !

  • i want that pensa mark is playing

  • @tannerr96 I think thats his MK-1 Knopfler Pensa Stratocaster.

  • @eanielsen123 it is. rudy pensa built it for him and there's and MK-2 that looks even better in my opinion. i like the three single coils instead of the humbicking in the bridge

  • @tannerr96 i always like when he performed with it. it is a very versatile guitar and sounds great too.

  • @eanielsen123 it;s extremely verstile. it can sound like a les paul one second and then like a true strat the next

  • that piano intro is 'borrowed' from romeo and juliet lol

  • *__*

  • one thing i don't care for about clapton's 80's sound is his heavy use of the chours pedel

  • @bluez1981 i agree with you on that one, it works for some songs but not all of them.

  • @9Dane3 oh! you know dude! I am an emotional fan of clapton so i got offended seeing your message rather knowing the background :P peace and happy listening!

  • @9Dane3 do something dude.. don't just babble around

  • @9Dane3 and he rehabbed and did amazing music.. u better do something rather sying stupid.

  • @9Dane3 what sort of problems?

  • Amazing live

  • GREAT VERSION layla like to get this concert

  • Cigarette near the Guitar head is a nice touch =D

  • knopfler for president

  • Thats Jody Linscott in white, on percussion

  • Alan Clarke looks delighted to be playing that piano solo

  • @brookersglen isnt that a fact.. an who wouldnt love to play a classic backin the maestro... both o em...

  • which ones? red, blue black or gold???

  • gold

  • wat pickups is clapton usin?

  • Eric and Mark, two of the bests!!!!

  • looks like a super group ! nathan east, steve ferrone and 2 dire straits members ...wow

  • i forgot... was he using blackie in this video?

  • No, he uses one of the two prototypes George Blanda had built for him in 1985/86. The guitar just got a new 22-fret neck personally crafted by luthier Mike Stevens.

Refinished in Candy Green in 1989 and Black in 1990, this Pewter mojo would become Clapton's main guitar until 1993 and the basis for the final production version.

  • whoa... never knew this, don't remember this being stated on Clapton's wiki bio

  • Blackie has been retired in 1985 due to neck issues. Clapton sold it to Christies in 2004 with Crash-3.

Fender's Custom Shop made a faithful replica of Blackie in 2006.

Only 275 examples were made, one of which being used by EC himself during a gig at the Royal Albert Hall in May 17th.

Clapton used chrorus and flanger with Blackie. He continued to use these FX with his signature axe until 1989.

  • mark !!

  • The intro bass riff is from Weather Report's "A Remark You made". Brillant reference.

  • Yeah - excellent call

  • EPIC

  • Un morceau de légende interprété par deux légendes vivantes.

    Et quel solo !

  • yeh claptons glassy sound is due to

    1. gold lace sensor pickups

    2. chours effect

    3. flanger effect

  • how can I get a knopfler tone?

  • well i think the guitar is pensa suhr

    and a soldano SLO-100

if you want a early mark Knopfler sound

(sultan of swing) play a stratocaster

through a fender tweed of 65 reverb

if you want a (brothers in arms style) sound use a 58/59 les paul with a volume pedal thrrough a crate amp :]

  • Don't forget Compressor and finger-picking-style!

  • Clapton stopped using chorus and flanger in 1989.

Apparently, he opted for a cleaner sound, which he still prefers.

  • Weather Report!

  • Yes - great observation

  • Best version ever! What a solo!

    Tnx

  • The keyboards intro is the same as Romeo&Juliet played live in 1986, 1988 and during the OES tour by Dire Straits, just because Alan Clark is Dire Straits main keyboards player ;-)

    He is fabulous as usual!!!

  • flanger effect!

  • Chorus as well I believe :)

  • Is this show available on DVD?

  • Theres a dvd available of the same tour but filmed in Tokyo at Stellar Products

  • Eric Clapton Live at Tokyo Dome Japan 1988

  • claptons stratocaster sounds amazing

    cool colour aswell :) :)

  • One observation the intro by Alan Clark on keyboards is the same one used on Romeo & Juliet at the Mandela 70th birthday concert when Clapton stood in for Jack Sonni check it out it's brilliant

  • mark and eric are fantastic !!!

  • arguably the 2 best guitarists in the world playing together on a fantastic tune. Brilliant!

  • Clapton is incredible!!!!!

  • Fantastic solo by Clapton! Absolutely amazing!!! :)

  • @LennyLeonard85 agreed

  • hehe, the intro keyboard sound to romeo&juliet from BIA tours, exactly from Sydney 1986

  • Mark Knopfler *__* What a show !

  • Wow!!!

  • Damn... just like the original, way back in the time of Derek and the Dominoes! I don't know which I prefer... probably this version.

  • es increible ver como se juntan dos estilos diferentes de guitarras, la tecnica de knopfler sin uñeta y la fender de clapton sin igual.

  • russell crowe is playing the piano :D XD

  • es un placer poder ver y escuchar a los 2 mejores guitarristas del planeta.

    una version sin igual

  • I love this live version of Layla ,its great.

  • the piano intro is the same as in the live version of Romeo and Juliet! very cool!

  • hehe right, but i think its a saxophone playin there?

  • i'm sure there are some versions with either of those instruments.
