@steffenbrix, it's driving me nuts trying to remember! Definitely not R&J. I've just quickly flicked through my D.S. discography and couldn't find it. :(
I know it's there, just can't bloody find it! argh!
MK and EC should have put a band together after Dire Straits. Theyre always jamming out together and they are the two best guitarists in the world next to Joe Satriani. And very different styles. Theyre a perfect mix.
At the very beginning, is this Alan Clark at the key, playing some dire straits aka knopfler tunes usually played as intro for "romeo& juliett"? And those bass-tunes sound familliar, too. But I´m not quite sure to which straits-song they belong...
@EaglesStir yeah i looked it up right after but thank you. now i know why some guitars are black on that part of the headstock. i kinda want to do that to my strat
@eatthisvr6 - well said . it's hard to say one is better than another these men are gods in their own right. different sounds from their fingertips ... but god a sound all their own
Great tour. Funny how EC is having a word with Steve Ferrone at 10:01 because he did not finish in sync with this final guitar chords.EC doesn't look happy at all! A real pity because the version is stellar. What a guitar lineup!
This man is masterpiece by on himself..how anybody could compare him to someone else..NOBODY has soul like ERIC, when i see truly grief on his face aaaa..and thats only matter..
@eanielsen123 it is. rudy pensa built it for him and there's and MK-2 that looks even better in my opinion. i like the three single coils instead of the humbicking in the bridge
@9Dane3 oh! you know dude! I am an emotional fan of clapton so i got offended seeing your message rather knowing the background :P peace and happy listening!
No, he uses one of the two prototypes George Blanda had built for him in 1985/86. The guitar just got a new 22-fret neck personally crafted by luthier Mike Stevens.
Refinished in Candy Green in 1989 and Black in 1990, this Pewter mojo would become Clapton's main guitar until 1993 and the basis for the final production version.
The keyboards intro is the same as Romeo&Juliet played live in 1986, 1988 and during the OES tour by Dire Straits, just because Alan Clark is Dire Straits main keyboards player ;-)
One observation the intro by Alan Clark on keyboards is the same one used on Romeo & Juliet at the Mandela 70th birthday concert when Clapton stood in for Jack Sonni check it out it's brilliant

L'intro d'Alan Clarke au piano est celle que Dire Straits (et donc Clarke) jouait en concert avant Tunnel of Love.

whoa... never knew this, don't remember this being stated on Clapton's wiki bio
stockmarket101 2 years ago
Blackie has been retired in 1985 due to neck issues. Clapton sold it to Christies in 2004 with Crash-3.
Fender's Custom Shop made a faithful replica of Blackie in 2006.
Only 275 examples were made, one of which being used by EC himself during a gig at the Royal Albert Hall in May 17th.
Clapton used chrorus and flanger with Blackie. He continued to use these FX with his signature axe until 1989.

how can I get a knopfler tone?
TheBJKiD 2 years ago
well i think the guitar is pensa suhr
and a soldano SLO-100
if you want a early mark Knopfler sound
(sultan of swing) play a stratocaster
through a fender tweed of 65 reverb
if you want a (brothers in arms style) sound use a 58/59 les paul with a volume pedal thrrough a crate amp :]
easyrider965 2 years ago
Don't forget Compressor and finger-picking-style!
auron2301 2 years ago
Clapton stopped using chorus and flanger in 1989.
Apparently, he opted for a cleaner sound, which he still prefers.
