  • He obviously stole some of Bill's letters, but that doesn't dampen it to me.

  • Truly exceptional comedy. The world would be markedly worse off without QI.

  • That is unbe-fucking-lievable.

  • That isn't an anagram...that's just writing.

  • @KitsuneProductions Presumably there was some word/sentence written out on the tablet in the magnetic letters, so if he makes an entirely new sentence and hasn't added or removed letters, it must be an anagram. I just want to know what the original thing was :(

  • @KitsuneProductions Actually yeah, it sounds like it might just have been jumbled letters :(

  • @KitsuneProductions Using a bunch of letters randomly given without him knowing what they were beforehand? Anagram.

  • @uiruu No.... An anagram is rearranging an existing word or phrase into another word of phrase... A random bunch of letters in a mess being completely used up is not an anagram, it's either talent, damn good luck, or carefully thought through.

  • Part of me think this is staged.. i recall him using the smarties tubes on cats leg in a comedy somewhere.. im not sure which came first??

  • @chidding The stand-up joke came after.

  • @backwardshoe thanks for clearing that up.. dude is really smart then..

  • @backwardshoe actually I think to remember that alan davies did that joke in his comedy show "Urban Trauma" ( a must watch by the way :P ) and that was filmed 1998

  • This have to be fake. No way

  • what was the original word?

  • Jimmy Carr makes me want to stick sharp things in my eyes!!!

  • Comment removed

  • That is frickin amazing.

  • Jimmy Carr is an evil genius.

  • faaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaake

  • which episode is this

  • @MuffinatorXII series two episode 5

  • I came here for the gay elf romp, I stayed for the robo-cats.

  • How can someone dislike this? It's just Genius

  • @jayboels because it's rehearsed, just like all of his annoying SMUG "spontaneous" humour. (I have seen him do the same thing on several occasions.) Sorry to spoil the illusion and all that!

  • Alan sounds so Essex sometimes lol!

  • @Adam course it was improvised he was given random letters

  • too awesome to fit on the board!

  • What does the anagram turn into?

  • this is actually an old joke of his so it wasn't improvised.

  • he borrowed bill's letters

  • Comment removed

  • Mr. O'Reilly, I can clearly see the letters of S,E and X still on your board. While it was not imperative that you made it 'Gay Elf Sex Romp' I believe it would have cleared any ambiguity.

  • @AJackalMan who is mr o'reilly?

  • @AJackalMan who is mr o'reilly?

  • @londonoverground The handyman from Fawlty Towers.

  • I'd personally have gone for 'gay elf prom' instead of romp

  • @Sporny007

He had an N left so prom/romp is both stupid.. He should've gone with "Gay elf porn" obv :P

  • Kind of wishing 'gay elf romp' got more love...

  • I'd love to see Jimmy Carr on Countdown. Then again, the entire show would have to be censored...

  • He cheated and its a very old joke of his.

  • @FreddoX1 The original air date of the show (some time in 2005) predates his use of it on tour (in 2007). Sometimes, things exist before people put them on YouTube. Hard concept to understand, I know, but with time I'm sure you'll get there. Actually, thinking about it, probably not.

  • Sorry, don't believe he made up that anagram.

  • I liked Bill's anagram better personally

  • 'VAGINA DOOM'

    -Alan Davies

  • @RadonX9 FOX

  • @uiruu GAY ELF ROMP N

  • So, um. was this filmed before or after he did that same joke on stage? It would make my year if he came up with that because of QI.

  • @fivesilvercoins before, your year is now made, enjoy the remaining few days of it

  • I bet someone tried it with their cat after doing this

  • the way he starts reading it is so funny

  • "that is unbefuckinglievable..." XD

  • Everyone bow their heads in respect for NickFromFulham, he will be missed.

  • @IncurablePessimist He is back , type : nickfromfulhamagain

  • @IncurablePessimist What??? NOOOOOo!!!! That's why he hasn't been uploading, he no longer exists :(

  • @mkp Fear not! He hath returned in the guise of 'NickFromFulhamAgain'!

  • what was the original sentence?

  • Mother in law = woman hitler

  • What letters was he given and why?

  • @Antonypacman Just a random jumble on each person's board to use to make up phrases. Amazingly, Jimmy used all his letters and was able to make a sentence that was logical. Can't believe someone had to spell it out, but there ya go.

  • Anyone know the name of this episode?

  • "that is unbe-f**king-lievable" LOL

  • Takes a smart guy to do that.

    Uses all the letters.

Makes a sentence that makes sense.

    Makes the sentence funny.

    Unbelievable.

  • @FcK2420 He turned down a partnership to be a Lawer...

  • That is un-be-F*cking-lievable

  • hahaha. jimmy rocks!

  • so fucking funny and so impresive, that was awesome

  • I think Bills' anagram's better

  • Christopher Walken: Jimmy Carr...dis guyyy....is un-fucking-believable

  • Ah Bill Bailey trying to muscle in on someone elses joke as his bombed!

  • @jasonholden

Did we watch the same clip?

  • I have now managed to spell 'put smarties tubes on cats legs make them walk like a robot' on my fridge using magnets you get inside packs of innocent smoothies. When that happens, you know that your life is going well.

  • @davidmichael07 no way! guess i just have to keep collecting...

  • @Bingalbug You will indeed. But trust me, my friend, when it happens, your life will be better.

  • Hahahaha... gets me every time when after Carr makes such an amazing anagram Bailey just sheepishly tilts his board over and it just says "Gay Elf Romp" XD

  • QI came before Live At The Apollo. The episode in which he made this joke was in 2004. So it's not setup ;)

  • @TweekDash this joke appears in Jimmy Carr's first stand-up DVD which came out before this episode of QI.

  • @NinjaMullet2 Oh. You win.

  • @NinjaMullet2 i just watched this dvd and searched for it lol

  • Can someone explain me the purpose of this? I mean, what were they all supposed to do with those blackboards that only Carr succeeded in?

  • @pelotillox The panel were each given a blackboard with a couple sets of the alphabet, and over the course of the show they were supposed to create as many words or phrases as they could, and if they got a good one they could press their buzzer to show it. Jimmy's was good because he managed to form a full and grammatically correct sentence using only what was given to him. It's harder than it looks! ;)

  • @VamLoveAndKisses Only two alphabets! Brilliant!

  • But I see 4 S's there...

  • @pelotillox Yeah sorry, I meant they were given a blackboard with a random jumble of letters I assume. It would be impossible to do anything quite as impressive with just one set, so I imagine the producers gave them the most used letters in the English language. :)

  • He's really smart

  • My cat started to freak out

  • Comment removed

  • fuckin hell thats impressive

  • lol this was on one of his stand ups

  • It's planned by the production team. It's from his stand up routine.

  • Comment removed

  • So Jimmy Carrs Cambridge education isn't being wasted.

  • which episode is this?

  • Oh, and 'Fry and Laurie' becomes 'friendly aura'. As well as; 'unreal Friday', 'dairy funeral', 'randy failure/randy air fuel', 'yarn - ear fluid' and 'frayed urinal'. All strangely appropriate.

  • My favourite though is Fiona Bruce, who becomes 'a rub of nice', 'aerobic fun' and 'I bounce far'. Mmmm, the thoughts!

  • Sean Lock becomes 'lack nose', Eddie Izzard becomes 'I died razzed'. Most eerily, Bill Bailey becomes 'a Bill by lie' - his first name is actually Mark of course!

  • Diego Maradona becomes 'a drainage doom'. Maradona nearly drowned in a cess pool as a child.

  • @xbox360dude968, it doesn't.

Pope Benedict = Epic Bent Pedo.

  • @RJREID1992 pity you cant spell paedophile, moron!!

  • @stefanharries Pedo - American English; Paedo - British English.

  • @HKOverlord117 Pedo - American English; Paedo - British English; Cousin Kyle - English English

  • @zimmermjaz Ah, you did "it"...

  • @stefanharries you're an absolute retard. i was pointing out that the previous comment didn't add up. Therefore is not an anagram.

  • @RJREID1992 my bad!!

  • @RJREID1992 Well done sir.

  • @RJREID1992 Vladimir Putin: A Livid Prim Nut

  • @Muhammadqasim93, no it's not. Princess Diana doesn't have 3 N's but your "anagram" does.

  • @BillMurraysBladder well done!

  • An anagram for my name is anus silkworm

  • as much as i would love for this to be legit, u can see jimmy has about 3 times more letters than bill, leading me to the conclusion that bill helped jimmy out on a joke by giving him some letters.

    still funny, tho

  • @BrendanStuart if you look, you can see Bill's letters on the table. Still think it was planned though. would love for it to be real...

  • @classyglassyhammers It may have been planned most likely, though maybe the panelists may not be aware of it...it is one of Jimmy Carr's stand up bit.

  • @sweetchucksono Maybe he got the idea for his stand up bit after appearing on this QI ;o)

  • @sweetchucksono I think he incorporated it into his standup after this show. I'm not sure though I could be wrong.

  • Pope Benadict = Epic Bent Peado

  • @xbox360dude968 Shame it's Benedict and not Benadict.

  • anyone else see this joke on Apollo?

  • Princess Diana is an anagram for: ENDS IN A CAR SPIN.

    Coincidence or conspiracy?

  • I love the show and Jimmy Carr, but I'm more or less sure that this is fake. :/

  • @themilkmon what's faked? it's a quiz show

  • @0946218123 The anagram thing?

  • @0946218123 it might have been staged; he uses the line "i put smarties tubes" etc. in one of his shows. however, i don't know whether he was using the joke before this appearance (and so the QI crew rigged it for him) or he started using it afterwards

  • The Brits will most likely know the Conservative MP Virginia Bottomley?

An anagram of her name is: "Im an evil Tory bigot."

  • what is that an anagram of?

  • scripteddddddddddd

  • Didn't he make a joke about that on live at the apollo?

  • @squaferno yup, I always wanted to know what came first this or the stand up joke.

  • I've just discovered that my name is makes Randy Old I :-p

Indeed I shall be a randy old man when I'm older hehe :-p

  • but what does romp mean....It means Hull in dutch. or torso in some cases...

  • @AngelBiLove Romp kinda means a fun event within the context of where you'd be, I could go for a romp on the moore (an adventure), a romp in your own home would be an activity you have great enthusiasm for. That 40's British stereotype? They love romps. Now that word has lost all meaning to me...

  • Jimmy's looking a little porky here

  • Hopoten.... Evian is actually naive backwards. Not overly an anagram tbh. Ironic as to why we all drink bottled water when so much of it runs free from our taps!!!

  • @dotdiddlydotdotcom Not really ironic, just stupid.

  • Evian is an anagram for naive.

  • He went to cambridge. I feel stupid now....

  • I'd have been perfectly happy going through life thinking Jimmy had actually achieved this feat without nicking letters from Bill.

  • @madamtorsion How dare you...! You've just ruined my innocence!

  • I reckon Jimmy had all of those letters, but had a spare letter and just put it in his pocket...

  • @TheCrazedMunky That is in his strand up material, yeah. I'm sure he had a big bucket of letters!

  • @TheCrazedMunky Prolly pinched some from Bill Bailey too.

  • "Put smarties tubes on cats legs make them walk like a robot." Words of the wise, there. Though I must say, when my brother and I did this our cat cats dis slightly resemble a robot.

  • This is where the robot thing came from....Carr put it in his show after this....

  • @Wicked33 Trust me, Carr put it in this QI episode after making it up. I'm sorry to burst your bubble, but this is staged. ;-)

  • whats it an anagram of?

  • I think jimmy carr is a genius, hes so witty.

  • LOL all he could come up with was "Gay Elf Romp".

  • Gay elf romp is still pretty good.

  • gay elf romp is better

  • It wouldn't surprise me if he asked for those letters. He asks for the questions beforehand to think of jokes so why not this.

  • @highestsettings you sure it's him? I think he's got a giant repertoire for that and I held always the suspicion that Clive Anderson was the one, because he's usually too precise and rarely entertaining...

  • @ElRah217th I know he does it.

  • @highestsettings Nah, he swapped a few letters with Bill to make that whole sentence, hence the letters on the table and Bill's board looking slightly empty. It's also not a made up sentence, it's in one of his stand-up routines :)

  • The thing about the cat must have been cheated in some way, because it is actually one of Jimmy Carr's most popular jokes....

  • @TaylerIsAComedyFan this is where the joke came from asshole

  • @LordAdam44 Alright, calm down, I was only pointing it out.

  • I just loled at "Gay Elf Romp"! XD

  • Aww poor cats, i hope noone tried this, it would extremely uncomfortable for them ! Bad Jimmy giving people ideas

  • @mistytinker13 I'm going to do it now just to annoy you.

  • @luclfersangel616 I didn't say it would annoy me, i said it would be uncomfortable for the cat...

  • Awesome = Jimmy Carr.

Okay maybe not but he is.

  • Cool story bro.

  • President Obama=I mandate probes

  • live at the apollo: Eat all th evil poo ( the 'th' is intentional as there were no more 'e's !)xx

  • @ajb12376 you're not the only ooone...

  • Kate Middleton = Naked Tit Model

  • @WubZers That is good, but I'm not sure anyone will ever better Virginia Bottomley = I am an evil tory bigot

  • @fecklessmovies It's "I'm" not "I am"......Sorry. I'm too much of a pedant to let that go.

  • @smellytossa

But - I'm is an abbreviation of I am. So therefore, both are correct...

  • @Orlabobz not in this case, if you look at fecklessmovies' comment, he's creating an anagram, and only has one a to use, so smellytossa is correct that it should be "i'm"

  • @smellytossa You're right. I stand corrected (said the man in the orthopaedic shoes).

  • the final joke that bill bailey says is related to this /watch?v=7xXSw07zrio&feature=related. (he was making fun of stephen saying 'hullo')

  • Jimmy Carr is not my favourite person in the world, however that was genuine genius.
