Anyone who can vaguely read body language could tell he's so cut up. The 'smiles' just look at his eyes. The smile that doesnt reach the eyes..hello has anyone been in a situation when its not great to cry whether that be from a personal thing or from that situation. The 'smile' Im cut up, near to tears but Im tv so can't show my emotions, if I was by myself I would be in tears, but I'm not, Im on tv... maybe its a British thing... wait Rob's a Brit.. there's your answer.
I didn't say he had to cry, but just to be more serious when explaining some "horryfing" details (1:20). I totally agree with you when you say you don't have to show your emotions on tv, but in the way Smedley did, it just seemed he was trying to decry a still-worrying situation. Maybe that's the British way, but let me say it's seemed a little bit unresponsable and equivocal, as previously explained.
1:20 .. About Massa's accident he says "it's horrendous" and he smiles (barely laugh): so is it so funny that someone just crashed at 260 km/h and rushed to the hospital or am I missing something? Smedley is a little bit strange (at least).

Sure he isn't just using Massa to reach prestige, considering how much Smedley clung to him when he's been racing, while in this interview he doesn't seem involved at all (words apart)?
no if you knew him a little more, u would know that he was confused, tired and worried beyond words, so this is the behavior u would expect, have you ever seen interviews from him before?
I'm not supposed to know someone just to understand his behaviour: I'm just a stranger in front of TV and I expect the right way to explain a recent accident happened to someone that just risked his life (no matter if Massa was doing better than expected). As stranger, I found inapt his expressions, maybe because I thought to see Smedley much more serious than the way he spoke. If you don't agree with me, I'm sorry but those are my thoughts.
I respect your thoughts, i was just trying to explain to you why it may have seemed odd thats all. everyone including smedley had just went throu a roller coaster of emotions in 48 hours, without sleep... so the smile is of releif that at that momment things were much better than they were at first.
