  • vorrei sentire Florez in questa aria.

  • yes! Hadley had a beautiful lyric tenor. I heard him in the opera house in Chicago. Alexander was very good but more a cover in his day and very good anyhow, he had that top with ease. Hadley was excellent in lyric roles . Sad tragic ending to his life too soon.

  • What year was this recorded?

  • My cousin says I'm descended from Percy so I guess that gives me moral authority over this aria. I like it! I forgive Jerry for skipping some top Cs. The part was written for Rubini who even then when tessaturas were higher was considered something of a freak. Many roles he introduced had to be transposed down for other tenors.

  • Splendid. In particular, note Hadley's full, free sound and lovely mezza voce. The only other version I've heard was by the fine American tenor John Alexander, who took some higher options that Hadley did not. But overall, Hadley's version is superior. And his voice was definitely more beautiful than Alexander's --

  • to bad he's not singing all the written top Cs....

  • Very aurrally pleasing

  • Jerry Hadley was one of the greatest American tenors of the 2nd half of the 20th century, and his death was tragic. I still find myself affected by it. I was in the chorus of a production of <Anna Bolena" - 1990, I believe - with Summer Opera of Washington, D.C.. and enjoyed every minute of it. The rehearsal, staging, costumes, etc. Rest in peace, Jerry. You deserve it.

  • il étais un très bon ténor, dommage qu'il soit décédé.

  • If you know the tragic circumstances of his own death, hearing him plead in this piece with Rochefort to choose life is just crushing.

  • Beautiful, dynamic ease, beauty and freedom of sound! Bravo Jerry!

    Thanks for posting this!

  • What year was this exactly?

  • I think this was 1985

  • What do you think of it?

  • Well, personally I always loved his voice. His coloratura isn't just spot on, but the quality of the sound is just gorgeous.

  • Me too! Especially from the early 80's til the early 90's, when he was singing with this approach. Very sad that it all went downhill!;(

  • I am kinda curious what you mean by "this approach".

  • Technique based on balanced registration.

  • Did you ever have the absolutely unforgettable experience of hearing him in the late 70's early 80's? It was mindblowing.

  • He was amazing in the 80's for sure!!!!

  • You should listen to the Lucia duet with Swenson that was recently posted. That was in 1993 and is incredible.

  • No, but he was a student of my teacher and the technique that I now teach during that time. So I do understand what you mean.
