  • The poor dogs that got left behind alot of people had no choice but to leave them but some people just thought that they were just animals but really pats are family

  • I go to NOLA every year to build houses and last time I got a day to go to the french quarter I went into Winn Dixie and met a beautiful young cat that they had saved after Katrina and she was the local celebrity. Fantastic pet store and the cat is a real charmer! I can't wait to go back... I miss NOLA more then anything... being a college student on the other side of the country makes me ache for my real home.

  • my dog is from katrina. she is scared of storms but virtually unharmed. i wish i can take all the animals left behind :(

  • this is so sad but the good news is that I adopted a dog born in the after math of Hurricane Katrina. she wa sin the Humane sociaety in Lake County Indiana. She had mange, tics, ear mites and brwon tic fever. But money can heal all wounds now she was gained 50 pounds and has a great home!!!

  • awww!!

  • this is so sad!

  • I would never leave them behind...never ever EVER!!!!

  • I would never leave my dog behind. He was in this disaster as a 26 day-old puppy and we adopted him. He is a water dog but hates water after what happened to him there. I will NEVER leave my Rudy behind!

  • George Bush should get a bullet for this cruelty!

  • I would Never leave my animals behind. I would do anything for them. Even if they said I couldnt take them with. I would find a way to take them. So Whoever said you werent aloud to take them... Think...If you loved your pets as much as I do or others do. You would find a way.

  • i lived in new orleans right before katrina and i had to leave my cat behind.i don't know where it is now.

  • You think these dogs honesty have it hard? search huntingtdon life sciences on youtube and ul see

  • great work , thank you, real heros . God had nothing to do with it or he/she would have prevented it in the fist place.

  • Thanks, to all that save our precious animals!!!!!!

  • great video. whenever there's a natural disaster, they never talk about the animals that were killed and injured and left behind in the news. They forget about these animals that suffered what the humans suffered, too. Its just touching and beautiful when volunteers and animal rescuers risk their lives to save those that can't save themselves. Thanks for the video.

  • Thank you...your video brought tears, and, yet, hope to me at the same time. Let the people NEVER allow the damn government to make them leave their animal's behind EVER again. I would never abandon a creature who trusted, and needed me...

  • My God, this is one of the most moving films on Youtube.

Thankyou so much for bringing to the world this.

    Damn people who mistreat animals.

    Poor little darlings.......

God bless the people who helped these animals.

    I hate you George Bush.

  • MAY GOD GREATLY bLESS THOSE WHO DEVOTE THEIR LIVES TO HELPING OTHERS. PPL LIKE THESE MAKE THE DIFFERENCE IN THIS STRANGE WORLD WHERE SOMETIMES ALL LOSES LOGIC AND LIFE SEEMS ALMOST UNLIVAbLE.

  • We were fortunate enough to adopt a Katrina Rescue, and Argentine Mastiff, Max. He was so ill when we adopted but with the compassion shown by Dr. Karen and 11th Hour Rescue, he's a happy and healthy boy. He's brought so much joy to our lives, he's gained 30lbs, and gets his daily hugs and kisses, I am so grateful that I have been given the opprotunity to be his caretaker for the rest of his life.

  • lovely song and i just feel soooo sorry for those poor dogs..

    keep it up animal rescurers..

  • *sniffles* i wish i could have a farm with alot of different animals. i hate how people treat animals sometimes =\ its mean. i wish everyone that killed or abused animals went to jail. some just get away with it. i wanna be a vet or animal rescuer when im older

  • Well actually if fido was there they may have protect them from rape . If no baby formula use your breast and yes I would have save my dog .... HOOOOOOO funny the last Hurrican they did it so How hard was it . My animal would have been with me the all time they are part of the familly .I dont have animal just for fun of it I have them to give love to them like the rest of my familly. If it wasnt the case I woulndt have any.

  • I cry every time I think about the scenario of people having to leave their pets. I was not far from Katrina; I live in Baton Rouge. Some people stayed because they would NOT (absolutely refused) leave their loved animals and make them endure such suffering alone. Unfortunately, a few died in such ways. I thank anyone and everyone who helped rescue all the pets of Katrina; and hopefully Gustav doesn't hurt as much as Katrina.

  • How could anyone leave there pet behind, i could never do that my dog is my best friend.

  • Many owners had no choice but to leave their pets behind.

At many evacuation points small dogs were taken from their owners and left along side the road.

Many animals were not allowed to evacuate with their owners.

Believe me if the troopers tell you no pets they don't care these were animals to them and nothing more.

I will never leave my dog behind.

We will live and die together no matter what the troopers say.

I will get in my car and drive us away from the disaster no matter what.

  • @happymike44 These SOB's at Camp Katrina are the ones that stole my dog my neighbor saw them take his collar off and throw his tags down! They called themselves the rouge rescuers. Most of the dogs the took from homes were never seen again and they never kept track of them. I heard those people at CAMPKATRINA were all doing drugs and having sex these were a bunch of those radicals that thought they could come to New Orleans and do whatever the hell they wanted!! We will never see our boy again!

  • @happymike44 Hello, Im new to the utube thing, but wanted to say that we were a part of this rescue also. We are located in northcentral Indiana. I do have pictures of the dogs/puppies we brought into our rescue. Im not sure how to post them to be seen. God bless all who helped these poor animals!!!!

  • @happymike44 there is a documentary on this, they would rescue people against their will and leave their dogs behind. One could not choose the option to stay behind with their pet, such a sad story.

  • I could never do that either. My dog is my everthing!!!

  • Animal Rescue NEw Orleans -- ARNO -- is working STILL -- three years later -- to put the animal and pet and homan community back together in wake of the Storm. These humans and doggies are so truly amazing. Rock on, ARNO. don't ever stop. The world needs you so much. Love, Your PaLs, LuLu and LoLLy

If everyone asking to put them someone or bring their cage . Anyways very sad video lucky thing some came jsut to rescue the animal ...

  • They were forced to leave without their animals. Until PETA amongst others stepped in and enforced animal rescue efforts.

  • SO Sad

  • i was part of this alongside of the Animal Rescue League and i'm tears now because i remember all the tears and exhaustion but i remember the hope. I remember watching a lab swim in the water towing a board with a family of stranded cats on it and the dog died and drowned.....i hope that no one ever forgets what happened.

  • how sad, I live in New Orleans and have a dog.

  • gosh it just brought tears to my eyes...animals are just absolutely amazing and just offer unconditional love, thats just too bad. animals are just as important, animals can save us to in times of disaster, all my love and care to animals

  • That was so hard to watch. It's heartbreaking, but people need see and know what happened to these precious animals so it never happens again.

Thank God for you all who helped.

  • Important message for all humanity to pay close attention to. Animals can save us

in times of disasters. They are great companions and need love just as much as humans. If you ever need my help just ask if you ever see me in person. much love shadowknight

  • This video and all others like this make me so sad, and happy. I work at rocky mountain chocolate factory in medicine hat, alberta. and at chistmas time we raffeled off a $400 chocolate santa! the funds raised went to our local S.O.S and we helped get a katrina dog sergury. i cried when we got a thank you card from her and i thaught about how little we did, and how much more we all could have done.

  • God bless you. Poor animals, most of them were abandonated by their owners. But, because of you, they had another chance to live and be happy. The video made me shead a tear. I hope you keep doing this work.

  • Asahu, most of the pets were not abandoned by choice.People in that area are used to storms,so they thought they'd be away for a day &left food(I know,I wouldn't do that but...)& others were forced out by armed soldiers.Others went into copters(no pets allowed). Now the laws changed.Pets have to be allowed when they evacuate any area.Thank God.If I was in Katrina,NO WAY would I lve my cats!I'd be dead now, probably.I'd never leave them!!!

  • that was really sad. it made me shead a tear. God bless those animals

  • I expirienced Hurricane Katrina pretty close, and I mean, if your willing to take a child, why not take a pet?!

People say a lot of them where strays, but only about 4% of animals found where strays.

    The rest were pets.

  • Beautiful video, brought back a lot of memories. I volunteered there as well, and it was the most wonderful experience of my life. Sad, but wonderful. So many people showed up there from all over the country, and we all worked together absent of egos or conflict. Closest thing to Utopia that I have ever experienced.

  • WONDERFUL people those who volunteered there, really

but what happened to those animals? did they found they're owners? or went to an animal shelter?

    great video, very strong

  • We need an animal rescue organization in every country ...Sadly people doesn't understand that animals need protection because they have no way to choose , like us , humans...

  • all I can say is "I love you rescuers!!!" This video brought me to tears.. Thank you for the wonderfull job you did. You got biggest respect from me!

If I coul I would have helped you but I'm not from US.

  • One of my all time favorite songs, mixed with such a heartwarming video. Great job!! My heart is still with them all... human and animal alike!

  • holy shit i jsut started crying lol..

  • Wow. Thank you so much for sharing. I was moved to tears. God bless all those who came to the aid of the often forgotten animals in the aftermath of Katrina. I donated to the humane society's relief effort & am glad to see so much good being done.

  • THANK GOD FOR YOU RESCUERS!I tried to go there,as I to t/n/r,but I'm from NYC,dont drive,no camping gear, no go.I gave lots of money instead,&had others give. THANK GOD FOR YOU.If any of my cats were there,I don't know what I would do.They are my family!

  • i stand and sulute you all. i wish i had the means to have been able to travel and help when this happened. this was so hard to deal with, just to sit back and be so far away and not being there. you guys that busted your asses and did a GREAT job. hugs to you all.. < from an animal rescuer/fosterer to all others..> god bless Joanne M <Pgh,Pa.>

  • I volunteered at Camp Katrina as one of the Cat Ladies. Beautiful video. Thanks for sharing it!

  • excelente trabajo realizado, gracias

  • i love the video...and i love animals, and they have the same rigths that we have...protect them

  • is beautiful

  • The people who helped all those animals are real Angels

  • this is such a sad video it made me cry this is why i am going into animal care for work experience

  • thanks for saving these our friends ........these people are heroes to me... kisses from Portugal

  • what a sad video. All those poor darlings who probably didn't have a home to come collect them. Thank god you people who helped them are there to do the amazing job you do and did. I cant stop crying for the poor things.

  • Thank you for helping all these babies. I cried watching this.

  • Just imagine how it must feel for them to be left by their owners (I don´t call those who left their pets bad people because it´s right to save your own life) and then that Hurricane. And it´s all our fault.

    STOP POLLUTION!!!

  • omg wow i would adopt all those dogs

  • damn natural disasters

  • GOOD WORK!

  • These videos make me so sad.

  • my dog ted is still there somewere i miss him greatly

  • How stupid are people who leave the pets behind.I would stay at home and die before I did this.

  • Before you make comments like that please know the situation. Many people DID DIE because they chose to stay with their pets.

I'm the one that made this video and I was down there and heard owner's stories. People WEREN'T ALLOWED to take their pets on the buses leaving the city...OR into the shelters.

Please don't call people stupid...it shows how ignorant you really are about what went on down there.

  • wow you are so right if I lived in new orlands I woulda been the one that died because of staying with my pet!!! Thank you for making this video...it really made me realize that theres still hope for all these pets..:]

  • I can't imagine leaving my home to save myself and leaving my dogs behind :( I just couldn't do it!

  • After seeing the effects this hurricane had on the animals, we need to contact our local officials and make sure there is a better emergency response specifically for animals in times of need.

  • there is now a law in the gulf states that requires animal evac be allowed with pet owners. we fought hard for it & we got it. now all evac plans INCLUDE pets. shelters and hotels and evac plans are to provide for pets now. thank gawd! i worked for the HSPCA & was to go help with rescue efforts in new orleans but plans for me were diverted. i am still angry i wasn't able to go help.

  • That law is not just in Gulf States. I live in NYC and it's the law here too. I think it's all over the USA now.

  • Following Katrina, the Humane Society forced the government to pass a law saying that any evacuation must include the pets. It also says that if an owner leaves a pet during an evacuation, they can be brought up on abandonment charges. It is illegal to abandon any pet, and now, even during evacuation.

  • I think that there is a special place in Heaven for the people who rescued these animals.

  • Wow where r the animals going? r u finding them a better home??

  • Beautiful. I am just in tears. I love animals so much being that I am a veterinarian. We have to be a voice for those who can't speak for themselves.

  • i agree with mutleycrew if u own an animal you take care of them for life their living creatures as well just because ur in danger doesn't mean their not they can die as well as you...i cant believe pple just go off by themselves leaving the poor animals behind...

  • I'm sitting here bawling my eyes out.

That was so sad, yet so happy at the same time.

    You are great people.

  • god bless all dogs

  • i wouldnt care if they threatend to kill me i would not leave my dog nor my cats.

  • I couldn't watch past the 4th photo. I'm sobbing.

My best friend ever was put to sleep last year for the pain she experienced trying to stand up on her haunches, she was a 18 year old German Shepherd. I'd have preferred to go with her. I think this is so sad.

  • 2 thumbs way up to anyone who volunteers their time to help animals.

  • Hi...the sad part is the animals weren't left behind willingly. Their owners were not allowed to take them with them. If they got them to the bridge they were forced (at gun point) to leave them on the bridge while the owners were forced on the buses. That's why we worked so hard on the "No Pet Left Behind" legislation after we got back from there.

  • Gunpoint? Does that mean they would've been shot if they refused to leave their animal?

  • you know that animals can be as inportant as humans 2 some people and im just happy the animals were saved

  • AWWW!! I wish i could have been there to help those poor animals out :o( It makes me want to cry! Animals depend on people to take care of them and then and then they just got left behind .. so sad :o(

  • I adopted a Katrina Dog a year ago, I'm blessed, and thanks to all who helped. I would like to find out what my baby went through... maybe not. They told me he was surrendered by owner... Any clues?

  • 'blessed are the merciful'...god bless you wonderful people, my heart goes out to those poor abandoned dogs. I don't understand how anyone could leave a dog behind like that, the thought makes me sick...

  • Such movig images, but I tried it with a different song, Beautiful by Christina A. At frist it may not seem right but just play it

makes me weep at the pain but then cry for the hope

  • May life be kind to all the beautiful people humane enough to care for the most vulnerable be they animal or human; they restoreth my soul.
