I've had the pleasure in owning both of these type of cars. I owned a 2002 1.8T VW and I was impressed on how quick it was. Really fun to drive..especially up hills he-he. But I've also owned a Poor Man's Type-R..which is also known as LS-Vtec or "Frankestein" set-up. And my build was a 2.0 tuned thru my hondata s300. I was walking camaro's & mustangs..let's put it like that. So a bored out 2.2 ls-vtec...if tuned...would be a monster! I'm talking 250whp. which is sick on a lite car.
@ShaneFM poormans type r is ls-vtec? i thought ls-vtec was a ls block with any vtec added.....Poormans type R is : JDM GSR B18c type r internals, pumps, pullies ect... and a JDM B16a Head. thats as CLOSE as you can get to a type r because of the materials used in the gsr and b16 head. ls block would just be ls-vtec with type r internals...bottom line, prms are a waste of time. I reccomend fully built jdm gsr with built b16 trans over a poormans
if it's 150 to the crank to produce your hp you should be looking close to that hp at the wheels. it's ok i understand that your gti 1.8t is slow and you want it to be faster by doing research and believing everything you google up. YO VTEC JUST KICK IN DUMBASS, THAT WHY YOU LOST
If you think your stock 1.8t makes 150hp to the wheels your stupid. Yes you can read a brochure that tells you your engine specs. But your probably not even making that to the crank lol. Try more like 140 with your tiny turbo lol.

@ButterBombMuzik VR6's are fun, but in the end...if that 2.2 got tuned...the VR6 wouldn't have a chance. But they are definitely quick...it's basically a audi engine so you know it's fast. But there's fun quick speed and there's Tuned Racing speed. Those my friend are 2 different cars. And usually the finish line shows the difference if you catch my drift.

He basically modified the engine. I'm assuming he also did a port and polish job on the head as well. Either way...a 2.2 means he modified it. This is the largest size you can bore out a Bseries engine.

well if you're talking swapping engines, then that's where the old mk2 golf comes in. the mk2 has a curb weight of 2137 lb's and a 1.8t or a VR6 will swap in. if a 2900 lb chipped 1.8t gti can do 13.5ish on the 1/4, imagine what an mk2 gti weighing 2137 lbs would do with that motor. either way, you really can't go wrong with a vw or honda.

Yes JDM can run 9's and 10's all motor at 4 times the cost. Give me 800 bucks i can take a stock 1.8 and make it run 200hp with 240ft. Can you do that with a JDM? without a ebay turbo and rebuilding everything? Give me two seconds to get a chip, and add 50hp and 90 ft. How much will it cost you?

280 to the wheels in pleanty in a 2200lbs car with close gearing. it depends on alot but there are pleanty of people running under 250 to the wheels running 11's hell i know of a 200WHP crx ruinning 12.27 @ 113.7 MPH

Gsr trans isn't better than b16 trans..why u think honda chose to use b16 gears on the type r? Plus its all a preference. U say u eat up anything with b16, u must be boosted cuz if not then in austin, tx u would get your feelings hurt cuz everyone who uses gsr transmissions get handled. well if you're talking swapping engines, then that's where the old mk2 golf comes in. the mk2 has a curb weight of 2137 lb's and a 1.8t or a VR6 will swap in. if a 2900 lb chipped 1.8t gti can do 13.5ish on the 1/4, imagine what an mk2 gti weighing 2137 lbs would do with that motor. either way, you really can't go wrong with a vw or honda.

@KILLERBJDMEF8 Yeah bud, I had a GSR ran 12.8 all motor. I bought a 04 passat 1.8t invested HALF the money that I put into my gsr, and my passat runs low 11's running 280 whp 320ft. Yes JDM can run 9's and 10's all motor at 4 times the cost. Give me 800 bucks i can take a stock 1.8 and make it run 200hp with 240ft. Can you do that with a JDM? without a ebay turbo and rebuilding everything? Give me two seconds to get a chip, and add 50hp and 90 ft. How much will it cost you?

@MaseSB13 no its mildly tuned and has full bolt ons but engine is all stock it is a beast man i cant beleive some of the cars i have pulled in a near stock 1.8liter haha i have a H22 in the process of being built i have it all aprat saving money for pistons and rods now should be 280whp and 11 second 1/4th thats the goal.

280 to the wheels in pleanty in a 2200lbs car with close gearing. it depends on alot but there are pleanty of people running under 250 to the wheels running 11's hell i know of a 200WHP crx ruinning 12.27 @ 113.7 MPH
