  • Chili mac with beef is the best

  • if you want more info on this topic, try this oasisv.com, more info than what is given here about freeze dried food

  • I haven't had an MRE, but I keep Mountain House in my BOB. I also have a hand powered water filter, so I'm not too concerned about water quantity. Mountain House is lighter and cheaper.

  • I prefer MRE's but in a bug out situation I would rather carry the extra water to rehydrate the freeze dried stuff so that I could have the option to use it for food or for hydrating myself. No water = dead in 3 days, no food = dead in 3 weeks so that is my take on it.

  • Very nice video. Although if you are starving what difference does it make if the food tastes good or not. If i was starving I would eat the south bound end of a north bound skunk.

  • @drsevrin100 lol so true!!! lol

  • I use mountain house as my long term food in the #10 cans. But for bug out, I use almost exclusively MREs (I do have some FD eggs for b'fast). Water's heavy. So, if you're going to be carrying everything you need to survive, I would cut down on the amount of additional water you have to carry, outside of that which you will be drinking. Mtn House TASTES better, but MREs are better for bug out. I LIKE the Mtn House Mac'n'Cheese AND the MRE Jalapeno Cheese! To each his own, I guess.

  • If you guys are looking for somewhere to buy the MRE's, Costco sells big boxes of about 24 meals once a year in the fall.

  • MRE

more food. but i would take everything out first

  • THANK!

  • MRE's taste great, depending on what you get. Just like the Mountain House. some good, some bad.

  • If you don't like mre try the canadien ones

  • MREs dont taste that good? No way man... for what they are, MREs taste great. Especially the spaghetti and meat sauce or the beef stew.

  • I would take an MRE any day over Mountain House. I do take mainly freeze dried food with me on 3+ day backpacking trips because of weight, but in a survival situation MRE beats MH in food content, taste, and caloric density. You don't HAVE to heat up an MRE like you would with freeze dried food.

  • I prefer MRE.

  • damn..you hit the jackpot. In Iraq you could have made some crazy good trades. Don't forget you can combine MRE packages to make entirely new meals. For instance...there is a way to make peach cobbler.

  • Nice overview. So far I've only done the freeze dried thing, I really need to try MRE's. I definitely think MRE's are better for car emergency kits where weight is less of an issue, and starting a fire to boil water is likely a non-option.

  • although you dont need a lot of water you still need water for the MRE only plus is you dont need to heat it then add to the food you just pour into the heater pouch

  • @timrollefson1 You don't necessarily need water to eat an MRE only if you want the option of a warm meal.

  • very nice comparison
