well im no scholar... but there ahadeeth which talk about reciting the Qur'an with a beautiful voice... the one with Abu Musa Al 'Ashari.. about how he had the voice similar to that of Dawud 'Alayhis Salaam.

also the hadeeth talking about the one who does not make the Qur'an beautiful then he is not from us i.e. muslims. now it does not mean literally it is an act of kufr.. rather just stating that you should.
