  • Thanks!!! you saved my life!!

  • dude u saved my project you are the best!

  • You can avoid converting the audio on the timeline if you put your prores audio conversion settings to 48khz and 1`6bit or 24bit res..

  • Hey, I can't find any prores options under video settings, and I have changed the format to quicktime and everything you did in your movie. Also, I have the same Toast version. What do I do?!

  • you are a god!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • ***TIP: If you can't see the "Change" selection...you MUST first change the "Quality" to "CUSTOM" this will open up that selection button. Then you can select the proper Apple ProRes Codec.

  • Thanks sooo much! This video convinced me to purchase Toast, and it works great! Problem solved, Booya!

  • Finally! a decent tutorial on how to convert these .mts files. Easily explained and can be done with the program I already have, just didn't know how to do this. THANK YOU VERY MUCH!

  • Thanks :)

  • Very Helpful thanks !!!!

  • yeah, fuck tapes!

  • 1) When transcoding in TOAST, you may want to change the audio format to AIFF. You need to render it because the settings you used are for AAC!

    2) FCE should be able to read this clips.

    Best regards!

  • Have you tried converting the audio at 48 instead of 44.1 to avoid rendering? I've found that FCP hates 44.1.

  • Hey so it is looking great, however, my audio doesn't come in with AAC any thoughts on that? I am using FCP and Premiere to test but neither has sound. If I play the clips with QT or even preview in finder it's all good, just not in the NLE's.

    Weird!

  • YOu just have to keep the same folder structure off the card and it will work...

  • thanks, very helpfull

  • thank you dude, this was a serious issue i had. thanks

  • hey man I have a bigger problem, my AVCHD files will not appear! they can be seen in the camera but will not in the Mac, I mean, with you you can actually see there is an archive but with me it appears as there was nothing!

  • dude thank you very much bro,you just saved my life,

  • Bro I have 1GB files and it keeps saying 'Error Result 61' every time I try convert..why is roxio so shit and why is it so fucking long; I have 2 pro cams and avchd footage to put into final cut help me bro!!

  • you saved my ass man. thanks

  • Best quote ever, "because when you have tapes, you have tapes."

    Nothing truer has been said!!!!!!

  • Create this folder structure PRIVATE > AVCHD > BDMV > STREAM

Place the MTS files inside the STREAM folder. In log and transfer select the folder called PRIVATE and the clips should mount.

  • @roddelcampo has this actually worked for you? I'm curious because I've read that the other files that are generated by the camera hold information pertaining to the clips. FCP apparently needs that info and if any of it is missing, it won't work. Just creating the path to the file apparently isn't enough.

  • @newpageone Yep, done it a couple of times now, all the private, avchd and bdmv folders had was the next folder and the mts were all in the stream folder, worked like a charm.

  • @roddelcampo great... once this drive is done doing what it's doing, i'm gonna have to try this out... crossing my fingers!

  • i just got the hmc150 and use toast too, i'll have to start going to prores instead of x264

  • Thanks for sharing!

  • just one question. I'm using the sony NX-5U cameras with the flashdrives. I've noticed that every now and then, I'll have a file (in both cases long taping times) that will do the file transfur and just as it completes, FCP will crash. Last time to fix this I dumped the files from the camera flashdrive to my G-force computer drive and it worked. Recently, that solution didn't help. with large files would toast be a better solution for file transfur. Thanks

  • thaaaaaanks thanks for taking the time u saved my life! i got a costumer and this helped me a lot, cause my beatiful but stupid camera sony hxr mc2000 doesnt allow to capture.

  • Great video - but I'm having some issues. I try to bring in .mp4 files (MPEG-4 Video, Linear PCM Codec) into Toast 10 Titanium, I get the following error: X is in an unsupported format and cannot be imported.

Log and Transfer in FCP gives this error: X contains unsupported media or has an invalid directory structure. Please choose a folder whose directory structure matches supported media.

They play in VLC. Handbrake converts them, but with over 1,000 vids I need to be able to batch convert.

  • Do I have to pay for this program?

  • Poorly produced.

Instead of using toast, a paid program, why not use MPEG Streamclip or compressor?

Btw, the reason why the audio has to render is because it is not at 48k.

Watching the render bar is boring, you are an editor... Edit that time out next time and get all the settings right.

  • if you have adobe premier then use that why waste more money.. once you saved it in adobe premier as a mpg or movie then you can do what ever you want..... :D

  • I hate tapes too :))

  • Thanks, buddy!

  • This actually works, thanks homeboy!

  • The FINAL CUT PRO can read MTS file! With me it works, i don't have to convert them!

  • Oh good! Ihave it! You're such a pro! lol THANKS again! Subbed...

  • But whats up with the audio??

  • LOVE YOU!!!

  • THANK YOU FUCKING MUCH!!!

  • when you have the log and transfer window open, you can go back to file import and load in the MTS files... you can do it with the camera hooked up or you can click on the whole folder that the files are in rather than trying to click the files themselves... then they will convert, but it takes a long time and the files become huge.

  • Thanks for the great video!

Now i do have another question. coz i can import my files from the PRIVATE folder and those are 232 files... he only takes 72 files in the L&T... and the other ones i can t import... He always imports the same 72 files... and the rest i can t import??

Does anybody know why and how to get the other files on that same SD card as well????

    Thanks :-)

  • I MAY HAVE TO LET YOU KNOE......When I converted in the TOAST insted of chossing APPLEProRes 422 I choose APPLE PRO RESS 422 ( HD )...and I chosose 1920x1080 ( I DID THIS BEFORE I WATCH YOUR TUTORIAL!! ) anyway do you think this may have be the problem??? PLEASE HELPPPPP MEE!!!! THANK YOUUUU!!

  • ...anywayyy.....everything was fine, but when I render I realize that it was jus rendering the audio, but not the video, so when I played I see it in the canvas and the image moves a little and then stop and keep playing but just the audio!!!! AM I MISSING SOMETHING?? What do you think its the problem??

  • @PATRICIATREVINO With these settings you do need to render the audio. Your playback issue sounds like an issue with your system, prores files are high bit rate and take a decent machine to play back. You could try converting it again with prores 422 instead of HQ

  • @THEDEAN911 Thanks for your response...I bought this MacBook Pro last year, ...I have Final Cut Pro 7 so I dontt think the machine is the problem...I pretty sure Im doing something wrong an I really appreciate your time...I all ready did converted one clip in PRORESS 422 as you said, and it worked better, but still suddenlly stop...I see in your tutorial that you didnt change the size in the adjustments ( IN TOAST ) I did because I saw an other tutorial first,....and that can be the problem too!

  • @THEDEAN911 Thanks for your response..I bought this MacBook Pro last year, ...I have Final Cut Pro 7 so I dontt think the machine is the problem...I pretty sure Im doing something wrong an I really appreciate your time...I all ready did converted one clip in PRORESS 422 as you said, and it worked better, but still suddenlly stop...I see in your tutorial that you didnt change the size in the adjustments ( IN TOAST ) I did because I saw an other tutorial first,....and that can be the problem too!

  • ...but when I move the CLIPS in the TIMELINE it show a Warning Box that says ¨The Clips doesnt match the settings of your secuence presets,...For best performace your sequence and external video should be set to the format to the clips..... Change secuence settings to match the clips settings? ¨........and I sayed YES!!!!... ( Im not very good in tecnical and settings!!!....will be a lot help for me to have your same settingsss.......... would you do a Tutorial PLISSSS????!!! )

  • Thanks for the information!!....Im still having a little problem....I do video weddings and I do the editing on Final Cut Pro ( I dont do the film I have a cameraman ) and my cameraman just bought the same camera you have PANASONIC AG-HMC150 AVCCAM Camcorder.....I did all ready convert the file .MTS using the TOAST....

  • THANNNKKKK YOUUUUUU!!!!

  • I love you man!!! :) <3<3

  • 48khz for sound... ALWAYS be 48khz

  • Does This work with Final Cut Express too ?!

Thumb up so he can see.

  • @gosu1234 If FCE has the prores codecs it should. If it doesn't you'll have to find another format.

  • @THEDEAN911 So with that Program i 100% will find a way to make it Work? BEcause i have i spend a lot of time on this problem and am tired of it. I have a HDC 707 and FCE. Nor the 1080/50p nor the 10800/50i files can be imported. I converted it to mpeg and still doesn´t work.

  • i have a panasonic hmc150 i got today FCstudio3...but it's sounds sucks...damn what should i do...

  • So i have to demote it to hq when i convert i'm confused please help

  • YESSSS...i've been having problems with those gay MTS files...how much does toast cost?

  • Super helpful. Thank you very much for posting this.

  • thanks for the video

  • thanks!

  • thanks a lot for this!

  • And also, what should the project/sequence presets be set to?

  • So there isn't a way to import avchd footage into final cut without having to render? because if there's complex editing involved it's a big pain to have to render all the time especially if it's big clips... any suggestions? thanks. very helpful by the way!

  • Nice Tutorial! You just save our Music Video SHoot.

  • thanks for this, really clear and very helpful

  • When I go to my settings after hitting "change" I don't see a "prores" option in the dropdown?? I'm using Toast Titanium 10.

  • hey there, thanks for the vid, I've been wandering forums for days looking for a magic .mts wand. I'm wondering if there's a way to set in and out points... I have loads of footage in .mts, and some of the clips are very long. If I only want to convert a 30 second chunk into an editable .mov, how can I convert just part of the file? I tried Toast's editor function, but no dice...

  • nevermind, just figured it out... hit "edit" on the vid, then "edit" again, then there's an in and out button that looks like this /I I\ , and then after you distribute the half arrows that split upon messing with them with the mouse, there's a strange "fine" box you have to check (which I thought referred to the res of the player) that says that you think your edit is "fine". Not terribly intuitive, but it works.

  • Very helpful thanks.

  • I had no idea Toast would do this. Thanks for the upload.

  • so without buying a converter, or buying toast, or paying for clickwrap or one of a HUNDRED other programs, is it a sad but true statement that there is NO FREE WAY TO IMPORT THESE MTS FILES TO FINAL CUT PRO? un fucking believable.

  • @WillBraden Apple doesn't like the Idea of AVCHD as a pro/prosumer format, I agree it's pretty ridiculous

  • @THEDEAN911

Thing is, who gives a toss what apple likes and doesn't like. I need to edit AVCHD and I will. With premiere, lol.

    Time to stop being sheep!

  • Comment removed

  • @WillBraden iMovie and FCP does import AVCHD. I just did it, look for a video by AJCShow. Log and Transfer.

  • @AVTPro I was talking about "corrupted" files that FinalCut refuses to accept, and for which there exists no free way to convert or uncorrupt them. It's pretty frustrating. I Can watch them, they look fine, but FinalCut won't import them. Normally AVCHD is fine.

  • @WillBraden OIC. My apologies. I hope file corruption is not a reoccurring problem.

  • @WillBraden Fuck man, I have the SAME PROBLEM! Pissing me off, cuz the freaking software "Final Cut Express" says it reads AVCHD, but when I open the Log & Transfer" option, it opens the clips and plays them, BUT it just does not add to the queue!!!! It starts off transferring "or looking like it is" then it gives me a exclamation mark and doesn't add shit!!! WTF APPLE??

  • @ACALVESTV This hasn't been a problem for me for a while (I think they fixed the glitch) but in case you're running an older version or whatever, try cutting up the files before importing. on the log and transfer screen, you can import partial files...break the file up into like 2 minute segments and they should import fine.

  • @WillBraden Just use Handbrake. It's free.

  • @neu242 As I said before, this hasn't been a problem for me for like a year or more. Thanks though.

  • Very useful, thx!

  • but your using 640x480 that isnt HD??

  • @CheHalau that's exactly what I was thinking as well. The size should be changed to match the resolution that you shot in.

  • very easy. i used to log and transfer my AVCHD sony cam coder just on final cut, but now i need to convert first.!

    thanks

  • Great video! I just purchased an HMC150. I have Final Cut Pro and am trying to export my 1080p video. What are the best export settings for this camera? Thanks!

  • I noticed when you converted to ProRes422 you didn't set a resolution. I am trying to learn this, am I right, did I miss something, or no need to set a resolution?

  • @davomrmac Your right, I never set the resolution. You want the ProRes files at the same resolution as the originals, therefore you don't specify.

  • @THEDEAN911 Ah right thanks. So selecting ProRes overrides the resolution setting, awesome, that helps a lot.

  • I love your DLX Luxe bg! Where do you pb @?

  • I am confused? Your output setting is 640x480? in Apple ProRES

  • thanks for the video tutorial. I was pulling my hair out with my Sony HDR-AX2000. just got Toast 10.

And swear away my man. Thanks again.

  • boom, thx man i get the same bullshit with my sony hdr sr10, appreciate the help!

  • hey, awesome video. I've been desperately trying to import some mts files off my AVCHD camera using log and transfer, and was worrying there was no other way of doing it. I've just done exactly as you explain in the vid, however, for some reason, my audio is slightly out of sync (by about half a second) with the video. do you know why this might be? thanks, James

  • i dont have FCP because i use after effects and premiere but my problem is that imovie stopped working for me.. so how can i get my MTS files from my AVCHD camcorder into something quicktime based?

  • 2 of the videos you took were a day after my birthday. :)

  • is the quality of the files getting worse by converting them like this or stay them the same? I would highly appreciate a response, thank you so much, philippe

  • Nice Video but i think it need more effects.. you can get nice video effects plugins and addons from aries-films file section. Just google for Aries-Films man.. pc

  • THEDEAN911, It might be better you don't swear when you are giving a tutorial. It is not very professional.

  • Quick question. Have you ever shot anything in 24fps? If so when you convert to proress in Toast does it keep the 24fps or does it transfer to 29.97? Thanks a lot great vid!

  • hey wen i stand in front of a greenscreen i use a lot of lights so i look bright but wen i import it in log and transfer it comes out VERY dark...any advice? (BTW my camera is AVCHD)

  • Thanks soooo much for your helpful and excellent video!

  • This is an excellent work around and i thank you for sharing your information. I tried your technique but, Toast failed the conversion about 20% in saying the file was copy protected. Any Thoughts?

  • LOl, "When you have tapes, you have tapes..." ;)

  • Hi, I had a panasonic HDC SD1 when I drag de .MTS to the toast the files had no lip sync in the audio. Do you know why?

    Cheers

  • nicce luxe

  • Export the audio as Linear PCM rather than AAC and you solve the render issue.

  • @valleryan Yah, you're right. I spent some time trying each option on the sound to check which one doesn't need render and now i've seen your post. Time lost...., but this is a very good and cheap way to convert video without a stupid amount of work :)

  • Thanks for the tutorial. Today my hurdle was getting AVCHD files from a Sony HD camcorder into Final Cut Pro (Final Cut Studio 2). Buying Toast 10 for $99 at Best Buy saved me from chasing down my reseller to get the upgrade to Final Cut Studio 3 and I'm getting it done today.

  • Hey, ive noticed that you have the apple ProRes 422 codec in Toast, i have Toast 10.0.4, but i don't have the option. Where can i download that? Or do i miss something?

  • Toast has access to all the codecs on your computer, the only way to get the ProRes codecs is to install final cut pro 6 or later.

  • Thanks. Ive got Final Cut Pro 7, and installed it and the codec is there :-)

  • great tutorial and you seem to know your stuff.can you advise me on the best settings to use in FINAL CUT PRO 7 as i am not sure which is the right one to use.i have the panasonic hs300 avchd and want the best quality, what would you recommend.

    thanks

  • I'd convert the AVCHD files to ProRes 422 (HQ), this format will edit very fast in FCP. You can set the Preset at Pro>Audio/Video Settings, but once you put a clip on the timeline and the Preset is wrong, it will prompt you With a Yes/No dialog. Just say Yes. Once your done editing, I'd delete the ProRes files and keep the AVCHD files as backup, because of the size of the ProRes files.

  • thnx ive been looking for this :)

  • thanks for the info on final cut pro do i convert the footage actually in final cut pro im new to this software.

    thanks

  • @korgpadude

what is the AVCHD file backup? the actual footage on the camera or the converted?

  • @Muchachosbravos

it didnt work for me this method , avchd is the actual file on the camera
