I've owned my 8920 for two years now and i've had nothing but hardware and software issues since day 1...it's been into the shop 3 times under warranty, pretty much a total rebuild. ILL NEVER BUY AN ACER AGAIN, period.
Hi There. I'm looking to buy the Acer 6935G in the next few days but i have been told that the HDMI port only supports video and not sound, is this true. I want to use the Blu Ray disc on my HDTV. Can you help me.
does all they gemstone 18.4inch models have the same spec as in usb, hdmi out etc, and does the gemstome at £800 still look the same as the one at £1300? what is the difference just the system spec?
Great video and all, But I am the real Acer fan boy! I had 7 Acer laptop in the pas 5 years and they are the best out there, way better than Dell and HP wich cause me only trouble. One of my Acer even survive a 70mph car crash while it was open on the passenger seat (might explain why i crashed...). I'm waiting in october to get the new blue gemstone to replace my 5920g. Do you think that the touch controls are too close to your left hand while typing and moving the laptop??
I bow to you. Oh and you're hired. The Acer Guy site is yours... ;-)
Were you were checking your mail or balancing an Excel spreadsheet at 70mph? That takes some beating, although me drafting a press release to defend Acer from the HP patent lawsuit in the middle of a sandstorm (I had to hide behind the screen to hear what the CEO was saying) is my own personal high. Not a scratch... Can I ask for a review when you get yours?
doesnt matter bro u can click a "hold" button, so even if u accidentally touch it nothing will happen, well as long as you have the hold button on, lol
this might sounds like a little nubie.. but u know the tv in port at the right side close to the blue light. main is just black and i am not sure what to do to get that black thing out. or is it just my comp that don't got that function?? i got a acer aspire 6920g
Hey acer guy..One question bro...I went onto the acer website and looked at the drivers section and noticed that, every single driver on there supports windows vista 64 bit..Y is it u think it comes pre installed with the 32 bit version..cos it doesnt make sense
So you went to the Portsmouth D-Day museum too??? LOL!
I have another one with "Keep Mum, She's not so dumb!" which is far more stunning (a blonde, red head and brunette surrounding military officers but I don't have it framed.
Besides, Acer's much more "Deserve Victory!" than "femme fatale" which makes it more in keeping with who I work for... :-D
:D I got it when I went to the London Churchill's Gabinette museum actually!!! Now it is hung on my room here in Padua (Italy). :) Anyway I've got an ACER aspire 5100... but I'm gonna buy this one you presented in this video.. 'cause I fell in love with it!!! So, thanks for your presentation, :D

hey acer dude ha i'm purchasing an acer 6920 canada which is dual core 1.83 and gefore 9500 3 gigs of ram ect do you know if it's anygood for gaming..... interested in the witcher gears of war and assasins creed
Wish I knew but I'm the last person to ask. Check out the blog and see if you can find someone there. They take no prisoners so you'll get just what you're looking for.
I'm going to be purchasing the acer aspire 8920 In the coming weeks!! I've looked long and hard, but I think I have finally set my mind on this laptop. Must be popular as it is on backorder nearly everywhere!! I'll let you know when I recieve It and I will write a review on it.
Like all Acer notebooks, it comes pre-installed with Microsoft Works 9.0 with Office Home and Student 2007 Trial which you activate (and pay for) online.
Hi Michael, Like your blogs on the Gemstone im getting the 6920 from my local currys store in the next week or so and will be using it for gaming (World of Warcraft and Rail Sim) and video editing. will post a video on youtube later. your help is very handy.
OH YES!!! You gotta write a review! No-one's written anything this time round and I don't get it.
Plus the 6920 is my favourite but doesn't grab a headline like an 8920 so you'd be a first. Let me know if you publish anything or want to write a review. Promise I won't change a thing ;-)
I didn't see7feel any but keyboards are personal. I'm still waiting for someone to post a 'proper' review on the blog. When they do I'm sure they'll mention it as the thing's so big.
I hate to bother you again, but is this thing any good for gaming, the one available in my area has an Nvidia Geforce 8600M GT 512MB, but will the huge resolution cause any problems?
i have a question for you. i just recently pick one of there up, and for some reason, i cant type an apostrophe, slash, backslash, and other characters. slash = é apostrophe = è backslash = à lsb = ^ rsb = ç. not sure exactly how i can fix this, but its VERY annoying. ive tried using the function button, the shift button, and the alternate character button, none of them have seemed to work. any ideas would be welcome
Thanks for the help! For some reason, the last time I had changed the language from Canadian Multilingual standard to US, there was no effect. I tried it again, and it seems to have fixed my problem. Not sure why it did't change the settings before, but it's working now.
I'd have to say this machine is lovely, it's working perfectly save for that problem. Beautiful notebook, and powerful to boot!
I'm pretty sure it's around the same date (mid May) as it was launched "globally" in New York. I could be wrong of course but the strategy seemed to support this. Also if you read the blogs from that launch the price range was around $800/900 for the entry level 16" (no BluRay) all the way up to $2000 or the one I got to play with. The one thing I am sure of is that it is going to cost a little more than what you're used to paying for an Acer. But the specs more than justify it.
That all depends on where you are... Play dot com (UK) has it available for pre-order right now. "Due for release on 20/05/2008". Be warned though, it's BIG. I had to edit out the best part where you could see the front left, centre and right speakers on the front lower side because the video camera lost the shot. The sound really is impressive for a notebook, even on downloaded material.

1123098 2 years ago
Depends on where you live. go to Acer . com and select your country. Have a (close) look at the specs to see which model does and which one doesn't.
Plus, the Gemstone Blue is about to be replaced....

The only thing I can think of is that you selected the wrong keyboard when you first started the notebook (OOBE).
Have you checked your keyboard settings?

Hey Xertazer
If you go to your local Acer website and click on Notebooks --> Aspire 8920 you'll see "Price lists" next to the Technical Specifications.
That'll give you the recommended retail prices for your country.
