I've never heard this before... so I can't help you, sorry. It is difficult to search for info on him because there are several singers called Steve Parsons. There is a wellknown born again Christian type folk singer and also an American guy... maybe one of these is called Shrink? Don't know... never found out what happened to Mr. Snips, either...
@ZLUGGO.Found shrink "Valid or Void". Difficult to believe it is the same guy:-o
But I'm intrigued!
Apparently Shrink appeared in the film Breaking glass, doing a cameo appearance as a singer... and Snips was to be involved heavily in film music later on and appeared in The Howling 2 doing a cameo roll as a singer. Not much to go on... but Idid find one mention that 'Snips = Shrink' on a blog, but maybe that was you? ;-)
Fascinating if it is true - means he's had 3 musical careers!
This is damn elegant hard rock. I've known the name, Baker-Gurvitz Army, but really had heard very little from them- and all of that years ago, when rock radio in New York was actually good.
Anyway, Wolfgang's Vault currently has a best of their little known concerts playlist, and Ginger and the boys were on it. A song called The Gambler. So here I am, tracking the movements of the Baker-Gurvitz 30 years after they lived.
I have a good portion of Ginger Bakers recorded work. This band was fantastic. The musicianship and song writing were stellar. Three man Army was also super. Paul and Adrian Gurvitz are some of the great guitar players of our time.
Yeah, the sarcastic comment really shouldn't have flown out of his mouth.
And not to beat up on The Good People Of, but too often those of us into all kinds of nooks and crannies of music(I count myself as one) can forget that Baker-Gurvitz Army is really, really obscure 30 years on down the line.
I actually had no idea who it would be. I was invited to view this video by a guy with the last name Gervitz. and something about Gun Sorry I made a blunder on your Channel. I had no idea what to expect and have only known of Baker from Cream and Blind Faith. Can't imagine why I don't recognize Baker Gervitz Army.. No sweat. I'm just a ditzy girl. We don't count, right? Tell your friend Gervitz (the nice one) that I won't come traipsing around your stuff anymore being dumb.Sorry & Cheers!
@Satonica did you mean Gurvitz... seriously Three Man Army (71-74) is better than Gun ...well it's my advice...they made at least 3 albums...with some great drummers Buddy Miles, Mike Kellie (from the excellent Spooky Tooth) ... it's furious early 70s hard rock n roll with some blues jam pyrotechnic guitar by Adrian Gurvitz...
@BohemianConspiracy Yea, maybe so. I was directed to view this page by a friend in an instant and I probably commented a little before I should have. I had no idea WHAT I was stumbling into, only that it all looked vaguely familiar to me somehow, but it took me numerous views to become aware of who and what I was seeing so I apologize for anything confusing I said because I was (am still?lol) UBER confused. Thanks for not attacking me. Sorry again.
@Satonica ... i do not attack you... in fact i don't like attack people :) ... we're supposed to be peaceful men ! ... whatever... you seems to know more about this band than 99,9 percent of the population...and this is not a detail for me
@BohemianConspiracy Thanks so much! I appreciate your kind words. Thank you! Best wishes to EVERYONE, and sidenote, I saw Rush in concert on Tuesday, June 29th and they killed it. I highly reccomend anyone that can should try to see them during their "Time Machine Tour" going on right now. Well worth every cent. Also the Baker Gurvitz Army is GREAT too!! Best wishes to all!
@TheGoodPeopleOf Sorry, I was thrust into viewing this video in like 15 seconds time and commented before viewing it a few times. My mistake as I was confused to the point of feeling dizzy via visual overload but i assure everyone I meant no harm and had no idea WHAT and WHO I was seeing for at least a few days. My apologies.
sinds de jaren zeventig had ik dit melodietje in mijn hoofd, en nu vond ik het, ik wist dat het the baker/gurvitsch army moest zijn,at last , i,ve found it ...great song
They are in many ways a very under-rated band. There were a few more clips on youtube but they've been removed. Probably someone somewhere wanting to 'protect their copyright'. So, they lose the bit of exposure youtube could have got for them and stay (relatively) obscure. Not sure who is suppossed to benefit from that - but the fans certainly lose out.
Bizarre, I've bought lots of CDs and vids of bands I've checked out on youtube first...
Would love to see them doing Mad Jack. Loved this clip, Ginger is a god and the brothers Gurvitz/Gurvits/Curtis are so under appreciated it is a crime.
Just finished the DVD from this classic series, I don't remember this clip from the first time I saw it so long ago. This is tremendous, looked up some BGA and enjoyed it immensely. As for the rest of the series, the "Sour Rock" episode is the gift that keeps giving, especially the Rolling Stones and entourage getting ready to take the stage in Colorado, 1975.
Aeons ago (i.e. in the 1970s), I remember late one Friday evening being very impressed by Baker Gurvitz Army performance (or was it a promotional film?) on the Old Grey Whistle Test in the UK. Great Stuff. Thanks for posting this.
And the disappearing/appearing cig on Baker is mystifying lol.

Which one of them is Snisp (later known as Shrink)?
ZLUGGO 2 years ago
Mr. Snips?
Steve Parsons, the singer.
Later singer of 'The Sharks'.

Yes, he's the one who became Shrink, right?

Update: To find Steve Parsons you need to search for 'Stephen W. Parsons". He is now a succesful film composer and producer.

I see thank you. Well, shrink recorded a song called "Valid or Void". A great song. Can be found here on YouTube.

Thank you. Yes. I watched him in "Breaking Glass" back in 1980.
But I thought there was a similarity between The Sharks' way of singing and Shrink's way of singing.
Did you see the live clip from the Netherlands?
ZLUGGO 2 years ago
@SAHBfan
For reference, Snips was the vocalist with Sharks before BGA, not after.
tonyrome67 1 year ago
@tonyrome67
actually, I think the Sharks reformed long after BGA, so Snips was in the Sharks both before AND after BGA!

After all, We're not making a lot of money out of this... Are we?
And we, at The Good People Of... credit all the artists, sources, film makers cos' they deserve to be credited! After all, it's their work!
We just want to let everybody know and enjoy!
