  • 11 Dislikes ? Really ? But more likes ....Im glad that people still like this music..I always will.

  • Love this kind of music. My children have heard all kinds of music Im glad that they could hear the songs. Im 38 my mom used to sing this stuff in the car all the time. I will always love this music. Lots of memories. Lesley Gore was one of my sister in laws favorite singers. We used to listen to her togather and sing and dance. She passed away last year, I listen to it for her I know she is listening with me. Rip Tig. Love you always.

  • Throughout his teens a friend of mine had a rabid desire for both Lesley Gore and Dusty Springfield. How unlucky was that?

  • When I first heard this song I thought it was Baby I Know. Shows what I know.

  • @roosevelthighschool Me too...lol I had to listen to it a few times to make sure...

  • I love this woman!!!!!

  • You know, I've been around the block a few times since I was born in 1957. LOTS & LOTS of excellent music over the decades, & I am so thankful I was THERE to hear it all!!! I am so glad my children & grand-children have been exposed to this type of GOOD quality music B-4 they could change the radio station in the car! To this day, my youngest daughter, now 24, & a mom herself STILL says this is one of her favorite songs! Just have to let them know what it's all about B-4 they can change ya no!

  • Music from the 60's = BLISS <3

  • Heard this on Radio 2 in the car on Wednesday on my day off from school. Lovely music.

  • 210,000 views. People miss this kind of music.

  • I love this song! I remember i first heard it when I was 11 and have never forgotten it!

  • GREAT SONG (DENISE 10) (LESLIE 9) (MISSY8) GEATOR/GREAT DJ NO MOBSTER!

  • Real Music man...Most of my friends looked at me all weird when I said that I listen to the 30's to the 90's... :(

  • @emolypse123 This song came out in the 1964.

  • people dont know what real music sounds like, the kids today have lost so much they dont even know what real candy taste like or coke pepsi,we had it good

  • Deep down inside he loves me!!! Say no more!!!

  • Back when people actually had talent...

  • I know this song by the They Might Be Giants cover, but the original is pretty damn rockin'!

  • I love this song!

  • I wish pop music still sounded like this!

  • @geowizard123

    Yep, you & me both!

  • Lesley Gore is so underrated. Her hit songs are very memorable and classic. Lesley had such a great and appealing voice.

  • You got that right Roostertrigger. I heard an echo of Leslie in several of Madonnas early songs, especially her calculated use of low notes. Leslie was and is still a classic and a class act. This song is an example of her excellent work and the wonderful production team at Mercury records. Her voice doubling and harmony are outstanding . Listen to this in stereo through your ear buds or headphones. This is excellent work!!

  • Maybe the age of those doing the voting and having 'favorites' of their own.....by artist or music style. Still, Ms. Gore deserves to be in Music Hall Of Fame.

  • I like the song, but God I've met WAY too many women who think this way.

  • Lesley Gore's music/voive/lyrics were outstanding growing up an an almost teen. Her songs reflect the innocent times--yes there was cheating and hurt feelings--but interesting that it was all boy-girl (only socially acceptable relationships back then) having it come up a few years ago she's Lesbian, which I don't know if it's true. If she is Lesbian how did it feel for her singing about hetero relationships?

  • @salemst Lesley has stated that she didn't realize her sexuality until she was in her mid-20s.

  • @stevemichaels2020--I can appreciate that. She had such great music and lyrics about male-female relationships it's a bit surreal to know which way she turned in her personal life. Regardless, her hit music growing up as an almost teen was the equal of anyone's of her early-mid 60's era.

  • @salemst Lesley attended Dwight School for Girls in Engelwood, New Jersey (all girl school); then went off to Sarah Lawrence College .

  • I thought that since I knew the TMBG version first I'd be biased, but this is great!

  • Gotta love the hand clapping in this song. Lesley is great!

  • @Steve915 Ellie Greenwich and Jeff Barry wrote this song and Look of Love for Lesley. Ellie is one of the background singers on this (and most of Lesley's hits). Great song!

  • I don't know where the sexual orientation entered the equation, yes her songs were girly, the words also sold records and a story was all the better as the Shangri Las demonstrated. Lesley has a super smooth creamy voice which performed the vocal gymnastics, the whole genre was part of the teenage growing up process. For example "if Leslely Gore sings about troubles with partners then mine can't be so bad " and it made people happier -Love Adar

  • This song would have made a great video for Hillary Clinton. As she walks through the White House, she looks up and sees a sign that says "Oral Office". She shakes her head and looks again, and the sign once again says "Oval Office".

  • got her greatest hits on casette..very rare item. shes was a teen queen....2 nd rate singer

  • listening carefully to the lyrics, where women really that stupid and helpless back then?! omg

  • omg! did you know that she also did "sunshine lollipops, and rainbows"?!!! i didn't know!!!

  • @m1kewithaone Yes, Lesley had a string of 19 chart hits, among them: It's My Party; Judy's Turn To Cry; She's A Fool; You Don't Own Me; That's The Way Boys Are; I Don't Wanna Be A Loser; Maybe I Know; Look of Love; Hey Now; All of My Life; Sunshine, Lollipops and Rainbows; My Town, My Guy and Me; Young Love; I Won't Love You Anymore; California Nights; Off and Running; Magic Colors; Small Talk; Summer and Sandy; and others.

  • @stevemichaels2020 well thanks for that. i didn't know all those were by her. i remember hearing most on the radio, but some i will have to got look them up. thanks!

  • I love the Alessi's Ark cover of this <3 Such a good song

  • Lesley, you're So Great!

  • the Sixties were something.

  • @DontForgetToJog lots may have used this technique..but Few stood out like Lesley and Chaka..Phil Spector's Wall of Sound definately used this technique.

  • itsmrpumpkinhead2u if they put your brains in a bird it will fly backwards..pumpkinhead.a name that suit u..because in the wizard of oz what was the scarecrow looking 4 A BRAIN....HA HA HA HA

  • Im now 60 and I have been a lover of Lesley Gore since my teenage years,I would like to have meet her but I guees I never will but thats OK, Her voice and songs will live with me for the rest of my life

  • Whats interesting is..Lesley sings the lead and also dubs her voice in a different voice to do a duet with herself..later Chaka Khan uses this technique. sing lead and background

  • Alessi's Ark did a cover of this. :-) I like both!

  • LESLEY IS A LEBO....OH NO!!!!!!!!! BRENDA LEE IS THE BEST FEMALE SINGER OF THE 60S......

  • @09bnunez

    JACKASS! What's a "lebo?"

  • I recently bought the TAMI show dvd, which is supposed to be one of the best recorded concerts ever, primarily to see the Rolling Stones when they were really young back in 1964. And there was Lesley Gore as part of the show. I really never heard of her before but she blew me away! I love the voice. And this was my favorite song that she sang during the concert. Just checking her out now on youtube. Thanks for posting the song.

  • @Chuck1974 I did the same thing. Got the TAMI show about 8 months ago myself. She was fantastic beyond words! Just brilliant!

  • Yes, Lesley, no man could ever fool a true lady such as yourself!

    great song

  • This sounds great on the stereo when its cranked up!!

  • Lesley Rules!

  • Leslie Gore looks like Joan Crawford on 1:26. Anyway, I absolutely LOVE Leslie Gore!!! That's why I'm on here right now :)

  • Please, no apologies. I'm a pest and freely admit it. However, I'd be pleased & honored if you'd visit my channel. That's me singing on the various Boneshakers & Phonecops tunes there. I'll be 60 in 9 days & would appreciate a visit, even at the risk of indifference. And your real name is?

  • pretty sure that's neil sedaka contributing to the backing vocals.

  • @pvtpstr this sounds like a jeff barry& Ellie Greenwich song... Is it?

  • @Freyja1133 - According to comments on a different upload of the song, it was indeed written by Barry & Greenwich. I couldn't find corroboration elsewhere, however.

  • @pvtpstr Another way that you can find corroberation for this song being written by barry& greenwich .... Is to look on the back of Lesley Gore Golden hits cd

  • @Freyja1133 - Do Thor and Odin know you're hanging out here? Y'know, they already suspect you've been dating Thrym on the sly. Hasten thee to the hearth and thy domestic duties, woman! Oh...and Loki says "Hi". :)

  • @pvtpstr pvt, I was refering to the premise of the song... And I don't think that they cae..since they're Friends of mine you don;t know anything of my path... !

It's been siad that when you assume things ,you make and ass out of yourself

  • @Freyja1133 - Ouch! I was just having a bit o' fun, considering your name is central to Norse mythology. No harm intended, fair Freyja! ZOMG, Mjölnir just whiffed within an inch of my mortal skull! I must away, lest I be reduced to a grisly spray of charred flesh, splintered bone, and matted, crisped hair!

  • @pvtpstr I'm sorry... but ,when you use someone else's faith to fun..it becomes offensive besides I was playing along with you..

Hey it would take a lot more than that to offend me

my user name has nothing to do with it... why didn't you ask me for my name first, pvt?

i would've taken it easy with you

  • used to love to hear this in my car. such a fun song. Hit the brakes at the red lights to the music

  • Thank You for posting this song .It was one of my favorites. Those were some good days! Thanks again!

  • REAL MUSIC!

  • @GunGemini indeed. Thumb for you my good sir.

  • My favorite Gore song, and she had a few very good ones. She was only 18 when making this.

  • Genius song musically - terrific chords.

  • simple song,simple music,simply PERFECT

  • one of my fav of lesley :)

  • One of the unique things about this song is that it starts with the chorus rather than the verse. Then again, so did "It's My Party". Don't know if Quincy produced that one, but this song has always been my favorite Leslie Gore tune. I feel privledged to have grown up in the 60's. It wasn't always perfect, with civil unrest, the JFK, MLK and RFK assasinations and the scism the Vietnam conflict created, but it was a time of innocense and the best music ever.

  • Thanks for posting this great Leslie Gore tune!

  • Thanks for the memories that this song brings back

  • Great tune from 1964 written by Jeff Barry and the late Ellie Greenwich. Ellie sang backup on most of Lesley's hits. They also wrote Lesley's 1964 hit, Look of Love. Lesley recorded Look of Love for her Girl Talk album. It was a slower version. When Mercury decided to release it as a single in December 1964, Quincy went into the studio and add jingle bells and speeded it up slightly.

  • if they can put Madonna in the rock n roll hall of fame..they can put this cutie in there.

  • @roostertrigger if they can put Madonna in the RnR HofF..., then I don't want Lesley Gore there!!!

  • @nauort23 I wouldn't put too much stock inRnR HofF-eventually eveyone gets in-no prestige in it at all.

  • @roostertrigger yah, i agree. i would like to know what their criteria is for selection, because the way i see it they all should be in there, right? even if they were only "one hit wonders" if they made the charts, and we liked them, them put them in there, now!!

  • @roostertrigger - ABSOLUTELY! They put the biggest idiots in there lately. WHY isn't Lesley in there????

  • If my wife caught me cheating she would know what to do. She would kill me then divorce me. How times have changed

  • I tried for years to get that fabulous "flip." Great singer!

  • She was the epitome of youthful '60s glamour. Movie-star looks and the most beautiful eyes!

  • hey lesley i still want a date with you - jesse

  • I wish I had her voice!!

  • classic

    who wrote it?

  • Blue-eyed soul extraordinaire' from the mid-60s !!!!

  • i dont care if shes gay - i been in love with this gal since 64' i wish she'd switch sides i d be there in a new yok minute! still love her -always

  • @nutbagbrew102

Is she really gay? Not that it matters, but I'm surprised I didn't know this trivia.

  • @TheMustangsally75 it was 2005 when she came out with this info - i still love her and she needed to be free from it all - but sometimes theres things i wish i never knew- look up her bio its there - i thought it was a mistake too - like i said i still love her and wish her all the best that life can give her-

  • @TheMustangsally75 i know what you mean. i'm surprised too that she's a lesbian because her songs are super-girly

  • I bought this when it came out, all the guys teased me,saying it was a GIRL record, so I picked up a copy of the Beach Boys "I get Around" along with it and my manhood was justified. 1964,What a year. Thanks.

  • love this song. like, honestly.

  • Cool enough for Little Steven??? Cool enough for Me NEVER FORGET !!!!

  • I learned only a few minutes ago on this web page that Ellie Greenwich passed away last year. I am very sad but her songs and melodies will live on.

  • One Fantastic Song.

    Thank you for the listing.

    DISCO FREE KRTH

  • @TL250Rider

Just bought this off itunes, great song

  • Wonderful song.......nice Jewish girl.

  • Wow, does this bring back some great memories. I was just a little girl when this song came out, but heard it played constantly on the radio. I was jealous when my older cousins purchased the 45, LOL. I also remember being on the boardwalk at Point Pleasant, NJ, nearly every shop on that boardwalk blasted that song, you could hear it outside. Please excuse me for reminiscing, but thank you so much for posting this song. ;-)

  • @InsomniacGirl I didn't really know anything about Lesley Gore until I heard this song on the radio in 1993. Normally I don't like many songs on first hearing, but this one really seemed special, so I went out and bought some of her records, and now I know what an amazing singer she was. Such powerful and effortless vocals.

  • @johnnydelbravo I agree, this is a special song, theres just something about it that still makes it a favorite, so many years later. :-D

  • Lesley went after her own fame. She made recordings in music booths that used to be in department stores back then and sent them to as many recording companies as she could and one of them finally recognized her talent. It was legendary producer Quincy Jones in fact.

  • @whathoney73 While still in high school, Lesley worked with a vocal coach. Together they made some demo tapes. The tapes found their way to Irving Green, head of Mercury Records, who in turn gave them to Quincy Jones. Quincy and Claus Ogerman workd with Lesley, and on March 30, 1963, they went into the studio to record It's My Party; Something Wonderful; Danny; and Hello Young Lover. It's My Party was released that following Monday.

  • @whathoney73 Lesley tells the story of her start in the music business on A&E's Biography program titled Lesley Gore: It's Still Her Party.

  • This is also another Leslie Gore hit, (along with the same message as "That's the Way Boys Are"), that my wife absolutely hates and says that these two songs were definitely written by a male, and real chauvinistic. But I still like the songs anyway.

  • @glaetze not necessarly. i have heard some songs i thought

were written by guys and they weren't. One is my fav Ricky Nelson

song, Poor Little Fool. there is a story about that song but won't print it on air

  • Takes Me Back... GREAT DAY'S..1964.

  • These Classis songs are very cool.

  • This song, and especially this particular recording of it, ranks as one of the absolutely timeless classics of the 1960's - so full of soul, passion and depth, so simple yet so intricate all at the same time. This song is complete - couldn't possibly be improved! Thanks for posting!

  • Real melody, they dont write this calibre these days, pure music !

  • Real melody...... they dont write this stuff anymore, only rap crap!

  • @madjack1950 there are artists like Duffy that write like this. there are others, like the bird and the bee. search these on itunes and others will come up, too!

  • MAYBE .. MAYBE :-(

    Yet this is marvelous!!!

Lesley sure fits into my favorite!!!

  • @Brent441 Nice of you to post the lyrics. Thanks for all your efforts!

  • where the more info

  • Been awhile since I heard this..great tune from the 60's and nice she's Jersey girl

  • She kinda looks like Dana Scully! lol. (that's a good thing!) XXX

  • i <3 her songs so much!!!! love old songs!!!*_*

  • I never noticed before but she kind of reminds me of Gillian Anderson.

  • I loved her in the 60's and I love her now. She brings back so many memories.

  • My favorite Lesley Gore song!!

  • @Charliebub56

    Me too!

She's so feminine and recently came out as a lesbian.

  • @steve7138 how come??

  • @Charliebub56 Mine too!

  • "But what can I do"? DUMP HIM, LESLEY!!! He doesn't deserve someone as wonderful as you. These lyrics drive me crazy but I absolutely adore this song anyway, lol!

  • Listen to this,Rag Doll, In the Misty Moonlight and A Hard Days Night and your back in 1964 all over again. Having almost Every hit (and Non-hit) from that year,I take that trip quite often.

  • HOT 60'S GIRL !!!!!!!!

  • Great song musically--great chord progressions--keeps flipping major and minor. And no one better to sing it then LG! Thanks for posting.

  • @MrTrashcan1 I agree 100% Mr. Trashcan! The major/minor flips give me goosebumps.

  • This track was played on "Little Steven's Underground Garage" radio show Sunday night. Steven van Zandt really adores and pays homage a LOT to the "Girls" - Lesley, The Ronettes, Genya, Darlene Love, etc.

  • omg, I love this song, am 26 but this song took me way back 2 the 60's like I was alive then. Thanks again for this song, been tryingto find it for years, gotta love Lesley

  • this is back in the old old days the AWESOME DAYS!!!!!!!! THEY DON'T MAKE SONGS LIKE THIS ANYMORE....

  • LOVE HER

  • great pop song, always loved Lesley's beautiful voice. thanks for posting this!!!

  • really sweet and great,as I remember her

  • Great song written by Jeff Barry and Ellie Greenwich for Lesley's fourth Mercury album, Girl Talk, 1964. Ellie sings backup on this with Lesley!

  • Ah, to be 17 and the Summer of '64 again...

  • i hate to say it, but men still get away with abuse and boorishness.

  • @acfg59 true. check out her song Thats The Way Boys are

  • I would always be faithful and true. But I will always adore her. No matter what, Ms.Gore is real and honest.

And most of all......a true lady.

  • will always be on top of my list

  • wow, was in 7th grade in 1964..........now I'm 57 but will listen to her as much as I can!!!

  • @pkappel006 Check out Lesley's 2005 album, Ever Since! Great album.

  • @stevemichaels2020 Thanks partner, will have to check it out.

  • Great song from the mid-1960's. Heard this one in late 1991. Lesley Gore made an appearance on Batman with Adam West and Burt Ward.

  • @greyhound7815 Yes, Lesley had a guest appearance on Batman. Part one she lip-synced California Nights. On Part two, she did Maybe Now, a song she wrote. Her uncle was the producer of the show.

  • Pretty special stuff for those times and anytime.

  • Thank You for this gem...Outstanding...Stay Gold

  • Loved her and this song in 1964 and today. Thanks so much for posting this.

  • thankyou

  • wheres the lyrics man

  • great song...however if he's been cheating he doesn;t love her, she should leave him

  • this was back in the sixties dude before the rise of the women liberation movement, divorce was socially frowned upon and men could get away with being abusive and boorish. I'm glad i was born after feminism

  • i was i was almost 3 months old when this came out ! maybe i know that this is a perfect song.

  • so much innocence in her voice. it really brings out that time period and makes the song all the more special....i will always love her voice and beauty.

  • @curtiscrush Ellie Greenwich is one of the backup singers on this song. Lesley stated that Ellie sang backup on most of her hits. Ellie is also the writer of this song.

  • @stevemichaels2020 wow , thank you so very much for that info, steve !

  • @curtiscrush it's a painful shame that the type of innocense your talking about doesn't exist among todays youth , they don't understand what's been stolen from them, in most cases by the time they get to their adulesence they realize they gave away their most precious gift to the wrong person

  • this is one of my favorite songs of lesley so simple to sing too lol! thanks

  • Saw her at the Darlene Love Christmas show last night. She sang this song and nailed it. Great show.

  • My favorite song from my first crush.

It is discouraging that Lesley Gore was never been more regarded as an important musician. Her handling of lyrics reveals nothing less than a true jazz ability.

Also: It's high time that the R&R Hall of Fame looks East to New Jersey and includes its deserving daughters Connie Francis and Lesley Gore.

  • I agree!!

  • another perfect song by Lesley

  • Awesome song, one of my faves. Thanks for posting.

  • My favorite Lesley song! The chorus really gets me! Thank you Victor for sharing and to Brent for posting it!
