Hopkins and Jones would have been able to eek out a win against him if it wasn't for his endurance which forces opponents to back down. Most know that Calzaghe's pace is too intense so they try to hold back. Meantime Joe is hitting them freely knowing these guys don't want to fight it out.

Calzaghe is unique. His gifts are speed and incredible endurance. Hopkins and Jones would have been able to eek out a win against him if it wasn't for his endurance which forces opponents to back down. Most know that Calzaghe's pace is too intense so they try to hold back. Meantime Joe is hitting them freely knowing these guys don't want to fight it out.

But let's get real, Hopkins was an old man in his 40s by the time both guys stepped into the ring. The Hopkins from the late 90s to early millenium, with the speed and power he had back then would have soundly beaten Calzaghe. My only gripe with Joe was that he never really fought any of the greats in their prime, which isn't necessarily his fault.

Hopkins spent most of the fight boxing negative..clinching and using his head at every opportunity, although he looked good in the opening rounds. Calzaghe stayed busy throughout that fight. The rules are simple: If you throw punches and they don't land, they don't score. If they land on arms or elbows or gloves, they don't score. If you effectively score with weak punches that don't do damage and your opponent lands with fewer punches but they are more effective, you score for the person with clean effective punching.
