run the game at 720p res it will look better and run better but what fps are you getting with the aa off on high settings cuas i want a IMAC BUT I LOVE CRYSIS and if i put windows on my imac too i dont wana have laggy games u know what i mean.
An iMac running windows 7 and crysis... If you want to run it at on a 30" screen you're going to have to opt for a 5850 in Crossfire or a GTX 470 in SLI. That should cost you around $600-700.
Thats probably because he is running it at ultra settings dude. The 4850 is an old card, and this mac is like, the late 2008 model. Not a lot of PCs of that time could even play this game on medium dude.
I use the same model iMac. I overclock the 4850 quite a bit. I am able to get 1440 x 1050 res, and still get more than 25 FPS during intense fight scenes, which is more than playable. I overclocked my 4850, and my iMac didn't blow up woop woop.
@IMAGIMATIONanimation i thought the native resolution on those new imacs was 2560 x1440 .. thats what i meant. now it surely will blow up at that res wont it?
I doubt it would blow up first of all. If it does "blow up", applecare would replace it for free, so no big deal. And honestly, you could probably put the settings on high, and it would still run smooth on that 4850 at native res. Once again, I already said that I overclock the GPU in my iMac, and it has yet to "blow up".
But think about it, the only GPU that can run crysis on 1200p at 25+ FPS is the 5970, and that is without AA. Not only that, but the card costs like, $500.
The iMac in this video has a max resolution of 1920x1200. Its the late 2008-mid 2009 24' model.
The only GPUs I know that are capable of running crysis at the new iMac's native res of 2560x1440 is a SLI/X-Fire 5870/GTX 480 Mobo. Just one of those cards are $400-$550. If you want to play this game at the iMacs native res, you have to spend a grand on the GPUs alone. Considering that the iMac's 27' display is already a grand in itself, you cant fit that in a computer that costs $1700.
Alright, I just fired up Windows Vista on my iMac with crysis, just to see if I could acheive native res (1920 x 1200). I have some pretty suprising results. I was able to set most settings to very high (enthusiast). I lowered Post-processing and physics to high, sound quality to medium. I then set it to 1920 x 1200. I was able to get 30 FPS on native res! In addition to that, it looks no different than maxed enthusiast settings w/ cvar mods. Oh, and my iMac didn't explode ;)
The Windows Experience Index score system is flawed. My C2D iMac scores better than an i7 with integrated graphics, so the test is not exactly, reliable. You have a GT 220, correct? Just know that the 4850 in the iMac is about, 3 to 4 times faster than the GT220.
@IMAGIMATIONanimation yup i do...id like to get a mac, but the price is just a complete rip off. i can build a faster computer with the same price. I dont get why mac is so expensive. yet ppl get less power for the price.
when i get mine i think im gonna put boot camp windows xp on it for games... tht way i can get max settings out with it not boging it down because of the operating system
@rhishfranks ye its not if you put it on 360p the game looks like its running smoothly but any other setting looks choppy because either youtube messed up the convert or the person filming it didnt know the optimal settings of export probably because as he says "Video was shot on a Canon HF11 and edited in Final Cut Express (I know the quality isn't very good...it's the first time I've ever used them both)."
Okay I have heard this game has really good graphics and such and that a lot of computers have a hard time playing this on its highest settings. Not that i do not believe it does not have amazing graphics but every video I have watched on this game the graphics were not mind blowing like i have heard and i do not know if it is because no one have a fast enough computer to run this game on the highest or what ever, but i do not see why they would make a game that no one can play on highest seting
@corfroo It's technically not the best graphics, but it is without a doubt, the most graphics intensive. I hear that Call of Juarez is very heavy too. After almost 3 years Crysis is still the top. Can't wait to see how insane Crysis 2 will be.
keep in mind the 21.5" models have a lower resolution ("just" 1080p) and will run smoother on the same hardware, also alot cheaper. I'll get the 21.5 with HD4670 it'll be fine for games too.
@nrb6666 yes forgot that too i worked with imac's videoediting and the standard program was allready good lets say nothing about proffesional editing software for mac's :)
incredible computers, although i do quite like windows 7, meh, each to their own, no need to arguments over which is better (directed at other people) as each have pros and cons which arise from personal preference and use =]
@DennisProductions sometimes people just want to play games on a computer they bought for video edting, and other creative work that macs are better for.
You mean it scores 6.2/7.9, right? I know it goes higher than 7... But I guess you wouldn't ever see that with a mac. I'm @ 7.3, 7.5, 6.8, 6.8, 6.5, using a $200 processor, with NO o/c @ all. You got ripped off buddy...
as cool as it is to see macs finally catching up in the game departments, their lack of upgrades in the future (i.e buying a whole new mac for expensive prices) and their price tag, seriously, why pay 2-3 grand for one of these when you can get a perfectly good pc for 1000$ that can do the same things and run your games far smoother, as cool as i think it is, i just don't get the point of macs, i rather just pay for ipods from apple the macs are just a waste of money
In Australia I can get the i7 iMac for $2800 AU. The screen from Dell costs $1500, and it has a horrible backlight. So I am paying $1250 for the parts, which include built in mic, cam, bluetooth, wifi etc. Definitely worth it. Remember this is in AUD, so it is more than USD.

when you say you had it on high settings, does that mean you didnt have it on Very High settings? Cause only when its inVery High Settings does DX10 turn on, otherwise you had it in DX9
I'm actually more interested in an imac than a pc since I'm going to use it a lot for designing/video editing, and be able to play some games wouldn't hurt at all. Plus I'm not a graphics snob, I just like to be able to run the game smoothly.
The new iMac with 4850 will be able to Play Bad Company 2 on Max easily. Crysis was way ahead and still is ahead of its time and if it can Run crysis at these settings, everything else wont be a problem =]
hmm, it doesn't matter if you buy a imac with i7 or 2 duo, but it matters, that you buy the HD 4850 512 mb graphics card. you can't use the full power of the i7 with the HD 4850 but the imacs are great except of that... (sorry i'm german) ^^

May i ask you to try the upcoming title "Operation flashpoint 2 : dragon rising"? I'd really like to know if the imac can handle it cause i'm looking forward to buy it :)
@Flagel88 yes, definitely...Operating System Windows XP SP2 or later (or mac)
CPU Dual Core 2 x 2.4 GHz Quad Core
Memory 1 GB 2 GB
Hard Drive Space 8 GB of free space
Graphics Hardware nVidia GeForce 7600GT, ATI Radeon X1600 or faster (with Shader 3.0 and 256 MB VRAM or higher)[11] nVidia GeForce 8800 GT, ATI Radeon 4850 or faster (with Shader 3.0 and 512 MB VRAM or higher), DirectX 9.0c
The 4850 is actually quite A LOT faster than the GT 130. The TH 130 is nothing more than a renamed 9600 GT. The 4850 on the other hand is a bit faster than a 9800 GT. I can play crysis in 1400x1050 res with 2x AA and everything on high-very high flawlessly with my ATI 4850 imac.
yep, the 4850 quite a bit faster than the 130. it is also able to handle OpenCL (look on Apple site under snow leopard)...but will prob not see any benefit of this until I buy my new iMac in 2-3 years time. :)
@PushPixel Then why does my iMac with the gt130 run the exact same setting with no problem? I have the 3.06 duo and 4gb ram, so maybe that's why . . .
why do people still live the illusion tht if your i mac or macbook heats up thats its a bad thing
when obviously the reason for it heating up is to get rid of the heat through the metal casing of the computer so that the insides do not get damaged by the heat
You haven't seen a hot computer until you see a WINDOWS laptop running at 85C (185F). My laptop's CPU used to be that hot. After cleaning the fan it now is around 50C though.
I have the 15.4 MBP with the 9600. It can play Crysis, although I wouldn't recommend putting it in DX10 and turning the graphics up (medium settings are fine, just make sure your room is cold--it gets hot in gaming). It helps a LOT that the resolution of the laptop screens (other than the 17) is lower than most desktops, so it requires less power to run in the native res. Of course, the high end iMac would kill it in games.
hey, i run this game maxed out with My top of the line 2008 iMac (the one with the 8800gs) i used this hack to make it run on very high and get good frames. Then I got the nature mod so it looks even aesomer. I get like 30 frames on 1280-768 which is really good
Yo do you think if I run this on windows xp with a Imac 24 inch I just bought? It has 2.66 4GB core 2uo Nviida Geforce 9400 256 mb. What do you think?
i thinking on buying the imac 3.06 GHZ with 1TB hardrive, 4G of RAM and the ATI Radeon HD 4850 512MB... do you think i can reach the ultra high graphics on crysis with it? sory for my bad english and thanks for the atention! ;)
i dont think you can run it at ultra high, unless you make the resolution at the lowest..... if i were you i wouldn't upgrade the RAM through apple they overprice it.....gud choice for the imac though
talked with a guy on youtube that told me it was a mobility card. Apple doesnt say anything about that. Can you confirm that. He also sayed that there was no catalyst driver for it. I have used mac for a long ting now so my knowledge about DX10 are preatty slime. does XP have DX10 or do you nice Vista?
Nice man it looks really good and its running it really good. Hey your not experience lock ups in windows or in Mac? I have the same computer and am getting these random lock ups. Also, windows 7 did you use the apple boot camp drivers ?
1440x900 is a 16:10 resolution, which is what the imac is. 1280x1024 is a 4:3 resolution, which means he was stretching it to fit, unless he was running it in a window.
No from the looks of it, the GFX card / display is just displaying only the selected res and not stretching it to fit the screen. Which is a good and bad thing
By the way I am a heavy gamer! Sooner I will put my i7 operated system here when I come back from holiday!

You haven't seen a hot computer until you see a WINDOWS laptop running at 85C (185F). My laptop's CPU used to be that hot. After cleaning the fan it now is around 50C though.

lol at one time, i was playing BF2142 on my macbook and i couldn't even touch the keyboard since it's very hot.

Top and back of that imac probably get very hot! My 20" with a ATi HD 2600XT gets wicked hot.

Do you have GTA IV? Would you mind testing it? ;)
i was originally going for a MacBook Pro, but I may go with a 24" iMac (because of the graphics power).

I get like 30 frames on 1280-768 which is really good

i thinking on buying the imac 3.06 GHZ with 1TB hardrive, 4G of RAM and the ATI Radeon HD 4850 512MB... do you think i can reach the ultra high graphics on crysis with it? sory for my bad english and thanks for the atention! ;)
Mrgaiteiro 2 years ago 2
i dont think you can run it at ultra high, unless you make the resolution at the lowest..... if i were you i wouldn't upgrade the RAM through apple they overprice it.....gud choice for the imac though

ok...:(
thanks for the tips anyway! :)

talked with a guy on youtube that told me it was a mobility card.

Also, windows 7 did you use the apple boot camp drivers ?
ronel129 2 years ago
a lot of people are having lock ups, including me. not just in windows, in OSX also. not just games, but videos and just browsing finder or safari.
contact apple support ASAP, they'll walk you through possible software fixes and if that doesn't work, move on to hardware.

fix your resolution. you should be playing at 720p or 1440x900 on a widescreen monitor. other than that the performance is really good.
iRanotherguy 2 years ago
1280x1024 is a little higher than 1440x900.
sc0pl355 2 years ago
1440x900 is a 16:10 resolution, which is what the imac is. 1280x1024 is a 4:3 resolution, which means he was stretching it to fit, unless he was running it in a window.
iRanotherguy 2 years ago
No from the looks of it, the GFX card / display is just displaying only the selected res and not stretching it to fit the screen. Which is a good and bad thing
