  • Malvinas Argentinas. If not today, tomorrow. Or the day after. But, eventually the Islands will come back to the real owners.

  • @785tt9gh They already are with their real owners. Been that way for close to 200 years.

  • Patricia Hodge was fantastic on this!

  • weak freemason ding bats these men in government. Bring back thatcher give them a kick up the arse.

  • The Right Honorable Gentleman looks like a total looser!!! lumphy ding dong!!!

  • so much better than the film 'The Iron Lady' - hats off to the UK military - true professionals

  • I thought the end of the play was very weak. It seemed rushed. It also seemed to put all the casualties into a short confused mess of clips. The soldiers & sailors & airmen were the heroes not the politicians.Personally i supported the U.K.s responce to the argentine invasion. I also personally hated thatcher & was more than glad to see the back of the bloody woman.

  • @tharleyify It was a fine ending, theme-wise. It wasn't about the actual combat. It was about the political process behind the scenes.

  • The union flag flies over Port Stanley.

Respect to the British Armed Forces that put it there.

And special thoughts for the submarine arm.

    That splendid submarine arm.

    Up periscope.

  • Jean Kirkpatrick should be shamed by Casper Weinberger.

Why do you think Her Majesty made him a Knight Grand Cross of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire?

    A true friend in need.

  • To My UK Friends i think you are wong for bad talking the U.S. for not coming in to join you in the fight in the falkland war we are good friends with both the UK and Argentina and if we would have join you in the fight we would have been dealing with the U.S.S.R. also and Ronald Reagan would have been shamed in the american people's eyes. that being said if we had not had diplomatic relations with Argentina ''YES WE WOULD HAVE BEEN KICKING SOME ASS'' with our friends from the U.K.

  • @attie3 The UK understands that the US takes all military action seriously, but your current president's attitude that puts the UK on the same level as Argentina. Who has contributed more to US foreign wars over the years? Argentina or the UK? It's okay to have diplomatic relations, but every country should stand by its true friends before it stands by a nation like Argentina.

  • I take my hat off for such a great perfomance, what a talented actress she is! But this story is completely biased, it's right to defend the right of the people...the best thing they could have done is giving them a place in Britain to settle since they're living in a ARGENTINE TERRITORY but unfortuntely a union jack is waving there, that's why this issue won't cease.

  • @INIGUEZELI Well that is the whole cause at issue. You may believe it is Argentine; but us British believe overwhelmingly that the islands are British and that the rights of the Islanders to deicde their own future are paramount. Since the Islands were invaded by your then Fascist government, that set the seal on British public opinion - the preposterous invasion has ensured that at no time in any foreseeabel future can any British government consider negotiating on this.

  • excellent! Bring back thatcher!!!!

  • Amazing movie!

  • evil witch ;))

  • Moving away from politics, that was a superb performance by Patricia Hodge.

  • Ol' Maggie broke her DICK(!!) off in the asses of Francis and the "(dis)Honourable Gentleman" (sic) in the final scene..! Good show, old girl, good show!

  • Sorry about jean Kirkpatric. She was just about worthless

  • contd.

Those 'icy rocks' with at the time, little economic and no strategic value.

But once the stupidity of the Junta was apparent, US help, most famously 103 AIM-9L air to air missiles were moved from US stocks to the UK, replacing the older AIM-9G/H models on the Sea Harriers. The UK had the 'L' model on order, it was really an advance delivery.

As well as other help given, US Sec Def was always on our side, that appalling Kirkpatric woman was always pro Junta, (as well as pro IRA terrorists)

  • Thanks for this play.

I was not a Thatcherite, it should also be noted that in 1977 a similar invasion threat was deterred when Prime Minister Jim Challghan sent a sub down south in a more timely fashion.

However, this largely accurate play well shows the efforts of the UK and Al Haig to avert war even after 1800 UK citizens found themselves under the armed rule of a vile regime.

It has tough for the US to 'get' at first, the feelings in the UK about this invasion,

  • About the only good thing Thatcher ever did..

  • you got that right :)

  • @BasicModelling yeah that and letting 10 ira hunger strikers die

  • @BasicModelling agreed.

  • The Yanks did fuck all for England you brainwashed knobhead. You sat as watched as Britain fought for the Freedom and Democracy of others.

America couldn't save its own 'ass' against little Vietnam. You are the shortest lived little 'empire' the world has ever seen.

Fuck America and stop crying over a few little planes hitting some ugly buildings. We had a 9/11 every night in the Blitz and you just watched. Whereas, WE supported you from the start.

  • Docudrama sorry, not documentary. :P

  • I love her final riposte to Benn. I think it was a good way to end the documentary - Thatcher at her defiant, passionate, partisan best.

  • Those yanks are very slow on the uptake.

    Rule Britannia.

  • great play - very accurate

fucking coward yanks join us at the end again

  • truckerfromreno: We yanks are the ones who gave the Brits notice of Argentine military maneuvering, etc.

We may have been slow to get involved after attempting diplomacy, but remember who saved your asses twice during the 20th century. Its sad that hundreds of thousands of Americans died assisting Britain yet you show disrespect! Go visit the 9,387 Americans buried at just the Normandy cemetery and call them "cowards". A little courtesy and appreciation would be nicer than a rude quip.

  • joebenevides - don't take the comments of one or two as the opinion of all. Those of us who know our history give credit where credit is due. However, "saved your asses" is not a helpful comment to make. Unless of course, you think the world, including the USA, would be a better place with a Nazi dominated Europe? I'm sure you don't. The USA's entry into the war wasn't entirely altruistic. Still, it was and is appreciated.
