  • for those of us who deal with the thrill and chill of insomnia ... this hits the money.. I feel so omniscient and so alone at these times .. only an insomniac could get it. AND it and no fun .. the monsters in the corner or on the ceiling either way they win.... fun but true...

  • I love it it's by far great

  • Hey - do not joke about the best generation ever.....- and who is Rod Stewart????

  • I love this woman!!

  • rod stewarts with 3.500.000 in a only concert is a guiness

  • Good Halloween song.

  • what can she do from going crazy in the night?

  • I love Kim's music and unfortunately i'm almost sure even in the USA in 20-30 years she will be unknown.

  • @evie1942 Not necessarily. Utube has her on the video list. I think utube will keep expanding on videos from way back as well as todays stuff. Plus music stores and antique stores also carry just about anything in music nowdays depending where people go to shop. People get rid of things others will always want it. TV sells old music too in packs deals

  • I love the intro! HBO 80's style!

  • i love this song

    she's maybe dead or old

  • i love this song

  • I remember searching for this on vinyl and keep being offered Bette Davis Eyes. Great track wish there was more rock these days.

  • Is that Stevie Nicks's lead guitarist? WoW!

  • Kim is one of the most under-rated writers and performers of the 1980's. Her music is awesome!

  • Love this song! Love Kim Carnes!

  • this sounds like the Bangals manic monday??

  • Anyone unfamiliar with her or who thinks she's a joke should read her wikipedia page. All her accomplishments came at a time when people had to actually GO OUT to buy music; getting huge numbers through downloads is easy. Getting people to actually get up off their backsides to go out and buy a physical copy of your album takes more than a skimpy outfit or giant toothy smile.

  • beautiful woman great song

  • Love Kim Carnes. Great song.

  • awesome song. Thanks for the music Kim

  • ich liebe den song super Kim karnes love 4ever

  • probably the sexiest women ever

  • I see where Miahael Bolton got his look from

  • If Kim Carnes just started her music today with these songs and appeared on a talk show or judging show and saw her perform and sing, I would instantly buy her full albums! But any way I got the albums a long time ago. : )

  • This song could not come out today. Too many people would complain this is mocking the mentally ill.

  • Thanks..I thought so..btw, whatever happened to Kim..I havent heard anything by her in years..then again I dont listen to the radio too much anymore..

  • Her last album is "Chasin' Wild Trains" - avalaible on CDbaby website.

  • ahh de nuevo estos sonidos tan nostalgicos y tan llenos de vida

  • I mean posters.

  • Hey Kim, maybe you should take down those glow-in-the-dark monster posterots you got out of Honey Comb cereal.

  • Awesome song... always turn it up loud

  • speaking of needing a drink of water....

  • @ThePolecatz

    waddy wachtel

  • She so reminds me of Stevie Nicks with the long blonde hair and her spin..and the guitar player looks like the same guy that plays for Stevie in her more recent videos like Landslide or Standback....whatcha think??

  • hat voice drives me wild!

  • anyone that says she can't sing needs glasses.

  • Nice song and look at all that hair! I do look back and appreciate songs like this, that where not top hits, more now than back then because of the mostly very low quality of modern music.

  • I forgot how much I loved this song - amazingly still know most of the words too! ^_^

  • MARCH 31, 2011 • Thursday • KIM CARNES IN CONCERT • THE 7908 ASPEN SONGWRITERS FESTIVAL • Wheeler Opera House • 320 East Hyman Avenue • Aspen, CO, USA • Toll Free: 866-449-0464 • Box Office: 970-920-5770 • Artists: Kim Carnes, Elizabeth Cook, Keb Mo and Shawn Colvin. • Hours: 07:30 p.m. • $18.00.

  • "And now I'd like to introduce the band! That's Andy Dick on Guitar, Gérard Depardieu on Drums, John Waits on Bass, and James Hetfield's Dad on Keyboards! Give it up for the Kim Carnes Band, everyone!"

  • By any chance is she related to the nelson brothers? Lol..seriously, I miss the 80's because of this song....and a whole lotta others too.

  • Video JUke box man I remember this!!! They had all the "great" hits:-)

  • Dosent she sound like Rod Stewart in woman body??

  • @mas261982 YES!! I thought I was the only one. You don't understand.

  • @mas261982 Yep. But that is part of her appeal and her uniqueness. :)

  • did anyone notice that goof paul willams on the keyboard

  • @59cva no, but i DID see paul schaffer :-)

  • Don't forget "Only the Lonely" and "Suddenly Last Summer" with the Motels. No one can do sad and longing like Kim Carnes.

  • @agapeyojimbo Those two songs were sung by Martha Davis and the Motels....

  • Martha Davis provided harmony vocals on "The Arrangement" (from "Voyeur" album, 1982) and background vocals on "Rough Edges" (from "Barking At Airplanes" album, 1985).

  • @tall32guy Thanks, I have to admit, their voices sound very similar to me! My mistake! ;)

  • The guitarist looks like a cross between Al Yankovic and Bill Gates.

  • @ThomasJAckerman ohh sh*tt!!!

  • I LOVED this song....but nothing compares to the entire Voyeur album..THAT is classic Kim Carnes....

  • She also sang with Randy Meisner on Deep Inside My Heart.

  • I first saw this video on HBO's video jukebox. Jukebox was on every day at 3:30pm & 11:30pm. Ah the good old days before MTV.

  • Love her voice, as I love this song! For it's so wonderfully emblematic of that truly awesome & cutting edge decade--the 80's! Also, can't get enough of the 80's, & this brilliant tune, superbly defined by Kim's lovely, velvet voice, is certainly the antidote to such a natural, 80's inspired craving--this craving for GREAT & superbly crafted music! Love it!!!

  • did everyone forget

    Bette davis eyes

  • Plus she had a song called "Draw of the cards" that peaked @ #28 on Sep 12th 1981.

  • Is that weird Al Yankovik playin the guitar and singing along lol

  • hey retrovault2 move this one to high definition!! kim carnes is real diva..

  • The reason I love this site, I don't have to answer

  • Is that Rod Stewarts sister?

  • This song is a blast by itself, and although this look impossible, Kim is a better songwriter than a singer.

  • Comment removed

  • I wouldn't call Kim Carnes amazing or anything like that. I'd have to say she simply DOENS'T SUCK!!!!

  • OH, MY GOD! I am having the biggest flashback of my life as I watch this video! Somehow in my madness I managed to forget this song that I often watched on MTV as a child. I've never done drugs, so I don't know how this memory lapse happened. What a dynamic performer capable of doing any genre of popular music! Thanks for posting this!

  • I loved her, but always hated her hair - wanted her to "go 80s" and get out of the 70s!

  • Back in 1985, I loved that song to bits. But what if you doubt that it's a true original? I didn't doubt that until 25 years later, though :) As you add more obscurities to your collection, your musical knowledge gets bigger too. So I'm pretty sure: the infectious synth backing was obviously inspired by a song from a couple years back, "THE REAL ME" from Neil Sedaka's daughter Dara from her first album "I'm Your Girlfriend" (1982). The voicing is really quite alike...

  • Crazy in the fucking night!!!

  • this is the most amazing voice ive ever heard kim is a true super star that never got the proper recognition love ya kim

  • She stated in an interview back in the 80s that she was struck in the throat when she was younger giving her this singing voice and I just adore her voice.

  • the synthesizer really made it for me. the 80's, man. what a wonderful decade!!!

  • @sw00p99 Rock magazines and cynical musicians have declared that rock music is dead...I'll add my opinion: pop music is dead. After the 80s, it has been downhill from there. Pop music reached its zenith in the 80s. How can the synthesizers of that era ever be topped? Answer: NEVER!

  • sure brings back alot of memories from the 80s

  • The words 'Barkin' at airplanes' aren't in the song. Why'd she put that as a subtitle? Anyway, it hit in Billboard. God bless!

  • I love the song and the video.

    Great time !

  • i l9ked invisible hands. i got the 45 single

  • This song brings back memories of cruising the strip in Myrtle Beach SC 1985.

  • i love this song

  • I don't really know why I like this song as much as I do, but I do. I first saw it performed on American Bandstand of all places. Maybe it's because it has a good beat and you can dance to it 8-]

  • Carnes and Bonnie Tyler will always rock, spent many a nights in clubs dancing to these songs. An era that I am glad to have been a part of.

  • I love the song !!!

  • Great Lady !!! Great Band !!! Great Song !!! Great Video !!! Great Time !!!

    Time come Back !!!

    Many Thanks for posting !!!

  • A tip for how to keep from going crazy in the night: don't listen to this shitty ass song right before bed.

  • Dude her guitar player is Kip Winger From WINGER............

  • @sledback1 Thanks For the info because I like kip's down incognito and i think i've seen him as a guitarist with the other artist during 80's,

  • Kim Karnes doesn't suck!! Where the hell were you in the early 80's!!

  • Hey Kim, why don'tcha take down those glow in the dark monster posters you got hanging in your room?

  • Always loved this song, but amazingly, I don't think I ever saw the video. Is that Paul Shaffer on keyboards?

  • @oyyour it sure looks like him, but then again it looks like john lennon is in the band too. lol.

  • You can call me Kim, I wont let you go crazy.....in the night.

  • I know Kim's album was called, 'Barkin' at airplanes,' but why was the single subtitled that? Anyway, it hit #15 in Billboard.

  • And don't forget...

In 1980, her duet with fellow ex-New Christy Minstrel Kenny Rogers, "Don't Fall in Love with a Dreamer", became a major hit on the Pop (No. 4), Country (No. 3) and AC (No. 2) charts.[1] The song was culled from Rogers' concept album, Gideon, which was written entirely by Carnes and Ellingson. Later that year, her cover version of the Smokey Robinson & The Miracles song "More Love" became her first solo Top 10 hit single (No. 10 Pop, No. 6 AC).[1]

  • What a sexy voice!

  • I just barely remember this song. Kimberly!

  • She doesn't suck and is not a one-hit wonder. "Bette Davis Eyes" was the number two hit of the eighties. She also charted with "Crazy in the Night," and "What About Me?" She's won two Grammys.

  • @Doolsey Don't forget her hit "More Love"! I used to like this song as a kid. You know the official title is "Crazy In the Night (Barking At Airplanes)". I also remember dancin, singin and doing the dishes with my mom to "Bette Davis Eyes" at our house in Chicago. Ahhh, such memories...

  • @Doolsey ... and when she added up some age, even got back to her country roots with her 2004 album "Chasin' Wild Trains" (which is just fantastic).

  • @Doolsey You have to remember there are alot of dipshits in the world.Kim is amazing!

  • @Doolsey plus duet with kenny rogers...

  • @Doolsey There was also a song called "More Love."

  • @Doolsey

and don't forget "Don't Fall In Love With A Stranger", the duet w/Kenny Rogers. :)

  • @Doolsey SHE IS SO HOT AND AN TRULY UNAPPRECIATED TALENT

  • @Doolsey Thank you!! Great job. Kim Carnes is awesome.

  • awesome tune! =D

  • YouTube is a time machine!!!

  • Good Comment.

  • Her voice is quite nice. First I heard her voice, I thought very strange but secondly, I thought its not bad, lastly, I like her voice.

Well, she's beautiful and tall. how tall is she?

  • Wow...this song ROCKS!!!

  • good song and spunky chick

  • i forgot all about this song until i heard it on Vinyl tap with Randy Bachman

  • that were i heard this on halloween

  • Wow bring back memories or what. Had this on 12 inch. God I feel old.

    Thanks for posting the vid.

  • What the Hell? Look at the era it came from. Atleast music back then had character. What do you see on MTV these days? If you CAN catch videos it' the same thing ovr & over again. CRAP without the C. How much talent does it take to talk along in the same tone from beginning to end. Appearantly your brother-in-law isn't tone deaf like yourself.

  • I love this song! Yeah, there is a little similarity to "I Would Do Anything For Love." The difference is this song was released 8 before Meatloaf's!

  • She's awesome. And it's a cool song too. Unique subject matter. 99% of the songs out there can be separated into seven or eight categories. But how many others can you think of that are about being afraid of the dark?

  • "Fear of the Dark" by Iron Maiden comes to mind :p

  • Just like Rod Stewart, but everyone likes him dont they??

  • I like Kim better --at least in the normal sense --Rod Steward provided 'value for money' in every album

  • there are far worse out there. Kim Carnes rocks.

  • and i thought my brother-in-law to be was a tasteless piece of shit

  • you dont know good music if it was to slap your dick. YOU FUCKING RETARD

  • LOVE that voice --sandpaper and velvet-

  • @eemjmm That's a perfect description! :)

  • @eemjmm Kim Carnes said her voice is that way from singing in so many smoke filled bars. It worked.

  • I like her voice

  • Always great to see Waddy Wachtel. He is an underrated rock guitar master. Worked with SO many great singers...Ronstadt, Nicks, just to name a couple more.

  • KIM CARNES IN CONCERT - September 12, 2009 • Saturday • BLUEBIRD ON THE MONTAIN • Vanderbilt Dyer Observatory • 1000 Oman Drive • Brentwood, TN, USA • Phone: 615-373-4897 • Fax: 615-371-3904 • Artists: Kim Carnes (with band Tim Lauer, Billy Panda and Dave Ellingson), Tim Nichols and Greg Barnhill. • Hours: 07:00 p.m. • A magnificent outdoor setting for an in-the-round show.

  • It is great to see she is still touring!

  • I love her voice so much!

Is that Paul Sheafer on keyboard?

  • She has an amazing voice,I thing Kim is brilliant

  • No, it's not Paul. It's F. Bob Getter in the video, though it was Bill Cuomo who played keys on that song on the album.

  • Kimi what a fox

  • This song totally rocks, why it doesn't get as much recognition as "Bette Davis Eyes" (another great song) is beyond me, Kim Carnes is one of my all time favorite singers.

  • Also was Kim Carnes wearing knee length leather boots in the video?

  • i know......

  • she is dulce

  • Bette Davis Thighs? Thats Funny! LOL

Probably some Phonetic mistranslations or a type O. She' got Betty Davis thighs! LOL Too much rolling over here in Chicago! LOL Please stop me it's too much! Hahahaha lol Stop me! LOL

O.k. Catching my breath now! Betty Davis Thighs LoL Here I go again! I needed that thanks! LOL

  • I just love her magnetism like vocal

  • I simply love her voice and her work!!! Please, Kim, sing a song with Bruce Springsteen... Greetings from São Paulo, Brazil.

  • I like this better than Bette Davis Thighs.

  • bette davis THIGHS???? u need glasses or hearing aids

  • Hey, where is your sense of humor ?

  • That voice is simply awesome. Imagine her singing in a band like "Heart". Wow, that would've been cool.

  • I think I'm addicted now...but 1 thing that will make me crazy in the night and frozen with fear is the guy with glasses and long curly hair...Arrrggghh!!

  • That guy's name is Waddy Watchel, he is pretty creepy, he was in Stevie Nicks' band and did a lot of work for her...

He is responsible for that awesome riff on Edge of Seventeen ( Just like the white winged dove)...

so i suppose that makes up for his creepyness.

  • I think I prefer Bette Davis eyes..but in a few weeks I'll be singing this in the shower...

  • Kim Carnes!!

  • great song from the 80's

  • This song not as nice as Bette Davis

  • yeah you know

  • I used to play this in a uk 5 piece uk female fronted rock band, touring the u.s bases in the med, back in 86/87,gr8 fun to perform,we also did scandals the warrior, pat benetar,s shadows of the night, hit me with your best shot and love is a battlefield,a couple of cyndi lauper tracks, and self control by laura brannifan, among other stuff.

  • Can you tell me what the chords are during the verse and chorus for guitar?

  • THE KEYBOARD IS PLAYING F,,,Bb,,,CSUS 4,C,CADD 9 C,BUT LISTEN FOR THE MOVEMENT OF THE SINGLE NOTES WITHIN THOSE CHORDS,THE GUITAR IS JUST PALM MUTING THE CHORDS,WHILST PLAYING ARPEGGIOS OF THE SAME CHORDS,BUT IT ONLY DOES THE SUS 4,NOT THE ADD 9, THE SOLO IS OVER Dm,,,bB,,,Dm,,C,,,Dm,,,Bb,Dm,,,C,HOPE THAT HELPS.

  • Thats brilliant mate, thanks a lot like, you know the overdriven guitar, is that another track over the arpeggios just playing single root notes?

Mate, you must have a good ear for figuring those chords out !

  • its just overdriven guitar playing the D5 Bb5 D5 C5 X 2, the root and fifth.backing the lead guitar

  • What U.S. Bases??

  • Where is she now? Voice like drying paint -great!

  • Wow....flashbacks of spiked hair and high school dances haha. I remember my Girlfriend was crazy for this song.

  • It is really good song, Kim Carnes is one of my favorites voices!!!

  • song was the bomb when it came out

  • I bought this 45 and played the hell out of it back in the day!
