Step inside one of these vans today and it's very likely that you'll still smell the residue of 40 years worth of marijuana smoke wafting from its custom shag carpeting.
All the guys I hung out with back in the early to mid 80's had late 60's-70's Mopar vans, station wagons and Darts! Man, you can't beat the old Mopars! Alot of fun memories there! Slant 6's and 318's, good stuff! Cool commercial!
Ah Dodge. THE KING OF VANS. I had a 1978 sportsman B body that just would not quit. 360 v8. Moved me from the east coast to the west coast and back again time and time again. Never failed.
I'm rollin a 500 horse 73 tradesman 100. Burnt orange paint and slot mag wheels!! Family van for 35 years and after the rebuild we just did it's gunna be another 35 longer!!
@mediamadman747 Don Knotts brought so much to anything he did, in films or on television.
Even if the film or show wasn't the best, Knotts brought 'his' best to every scene in whch he acted. Many people miss this fine comic actor, who I'm sure could have done some more, fine dramatic acting if given more opportunities to do so.
@mediamadman747 Check out Knotts as "Wilbur Peterson" on CBS-TV's soap opera "Search For Tomorrow." I think some clips, if not entire episodes, of this are uploaded on You Tube. Knotts played a deaf mute character, or so he (and viewers) thought, until a revelation.
@mediamadman747 There is a very good Universal DVD set ("Don Knotts: The Reluctant Hero Pack") of most of Knotts' major films. Buy that, "No Time For Sergeants" (a re-creation of Knotts' Broadway role, his first opposite longtime co-star & friend Andy Griifith), and "The Incredible Mr. Limpet" (where you may also see and hear Knotts in animated form), and you will have yourself a few evenings' worth of classic Don Knotts!
@mediamadman747 Of course, if you also have DVD sets of seasons 1-5 of "The Andy Griffith Show," seasons 3-7 of "Three's Company," and a few seasons (1988-90) of Knotts on "Matlock," together with the aforementioned films (maybe adding Disney's "The Apple Dumpling Gang," with Knotts and Tim Conway), you could have yourself a real "Don Knotts Marathon."
@mediamadman747 Knotts returned to "Mayberry" for guest appearances as "Deputy Fife" each of the three seasons he was not a series regular, twice winning Emmys. His last appearance as "Barney" was in the first episode of "Mayberry R.F.D.," as best man at the wedding of "Sheriff Andy Taylor" to teacher "Helen Crump."
A completist would also add the "Return To Mayberry" reunion film, as well the two (CBS & TV Land) reunion clip-retrospective specials.
@mediamadman747 And please don't forget to include the film "Pleasantville," which was Knotts' last time working with former co-star & friend Ronnie Howard (Howard directed). Don's small-but-pivotal role in that film brings it all back full-circle, in a way, to "Barney Fife."
Dodge outsold and out performed GM and Ford with these awesome vans !!!
I had a 77 Dodge Street Van and i blew the doors off of early 80's imports and Mustangs and Camaro's and my wifes 78 vette couldnt keep up to the no emmission equipt, powerful Dodge !!
@albear972 HEY! That is tatally unfair! What about working class guys like me who pile tools and equipment in vans rather than trucks so they stay dry an out of the elements and dont want windows for theives to see what is stored in the back or so we dont break glass while carring bulky supplies?
The fact that I asked that kid to help me find my lost puppy is irrelevent!
@beleafer81 dude, that guy probably owns a Saturn or a Odyssey the weak no nothing about the strong- box! real men look at a van like this and first thing comes to mind is champing ,fishing, hauling tool's,traveling in style...his first thought is rice and little boy's and puppy's...?you do the math. keep vanning!
NOBODY can advertise a van better than Don Knotts!
