For those who've seen the advertisement: "West of the Rockies", it's "BEST FOODS" mayonnaise- everywhere else, it's "HELLMANN'S".
To answer your question, 'Gries', this is the "1958" (updated) version; for example, the original lines "Where anyone at all from Shirley Temple to Aimee Semple" were altered at 1:03 to "Where anyone at all from TV's 'Lassie' to Monroe's chassis...".
@Dayniac4324 Yea, it's very sad and chilling when you hear it. I managed to find a clip. If you search "ABC radio jfk" the first or second link will bring you the broadcast of that.
My father had this album, and I loved this version. Now I'm aware of the original from 1937's "Hollywood Hotel", which is really the ultimate version..... This is a great turn by Doris and great video too!
@xxxSelenagomezfanxx I absolutely LOVE that too !! It gives me hope that these great movies and stars will continue to be enjoyed. You just made my day !! =)
@logicpractitioner I don't know .. .but look at our society .. is there any class left ? After watching some of this Charlie Sheen junk on tv .. I'm truely amazed at what we deem a "star" ... and one of the highest paid too.
@andeaver1937 Yes.... have to agree with you. As you can see .. most of the stars I remember and love are from much earlier than the sixties. They don't make 'em like that anymore !!
Its a Person who uses their first Picture on a Montage about Hollywood by Showing Judy Garland since she was the Queen of the MGM Musicals. Doris' voice is a great Voice. I wish Judy had sang this song.
I am so glad I have this woman's autograph. She is a true legend and sings this song perfectly. She could sing any song perfectly and what an actress too.
@honeybee7700 I couldn't agree more ! I just sent her some of my video's and got the nicest letter back. She is truely a lovely woman....inside and out ! Thanks ... so happy you enjoyed !!
@Dayniac4324 That is such a fun song! It came from a Warner Bros. movie called 'Hollywood Hotel'.. You get a chance to see Benny Goodman & his orchestra perform 'Sing, Sing, Sing'..
@zipper179 Sing Sing Sing is one of my all time favorites !! I think I've seen Hollywood Hotel ... long time ago though. I think Doris does a great version of this one. I've seen some tv movie journalist's show (can't remember his name).. he uses Doris' version .. always fun to hear her when you don't expect it.
@Dayniac4324 The song was written by Richard Whiting and Johnny Mercer. The movie starred Dick Powell, Frances Langford, & LolaLane. Benny Goodman and his Orchestra were featured; and the song was sung by Johnny 'Scat' Davis. There is a sequence where Lionel Hampton plays in a quartet, which was highly unusual for those days. It was 1938, and just his being there was something, race relations being what they were..
your right irish. this was the song interupted with the news of presedent kennedys shooting and i live in australia. nice song thats not played on radio very often.
RUTH HUSSEY AND GAIL RUSSELL!! I gotta see that movie. i loved ruth hussey when i saw her in the philadelphia story with cary grant, jimmy stewart, and katharine hepburn. thanks for that movie for me to check out!!!
I'm a big Ruth Hussey fan too ! I love the line -- "the little dears" from Philidelphia Story ! You'll really like The Uninvited - it has a Hitchcock feel to it...fun movie !! Let me know how you like it.
It really is amazing that this was recorded 50 years ago ! Her voice is just so wonderful - I love her version of this song .... and just about any other song she recorded ! Thanks for your kind comments !!
LOVE thlast picture of Doris Day, at Grauman's Chinese Theater--bravo!! By the way, this recording of Horray for Hollywood by Doris Day was recorded 50 years ago (!) in 1958--and the song was origianlly written in 1937--hard to believe.
Really great job! I love the video...it's like stepping into a time warp..there's just something about that time that's so great...Thanks for posting :)
great job on the video toni, cool to look back at all the actresses and actors in there early days. 5 on top from me. you guys have a great weekend!!!
Toni, the third time is a charm!!! Your first two videos were really good, but this one is really special!! Great Doris Day performance with well-placed photos!! FIVE STARS, Toni!!

Because people today want low brow and trash in their stars...Hollywood sells it only if people buy it.
