  • I've heard the name, but I don't know who he is.

  • Christ, this song sucks. Some pretty lame rhymes, kids.

  • @goback3spaces go listen to Justin Bieber then

  • @MrLeadfoot01 Who's he?

  • @goback3spaces are you stupid? Misinformed? old? or just afraid to admit you like him?

  • For those who've seen the advertisement: "West of the Rockies", it's "BEST FOODS" mayonnaise- everywhere else, it's "HELLMANN'S".

To answer your question, 'Gries', this is the "1958" (updated) version; for example, the original lines "Where anyone at all from Shirley Temple to Aimee Semple" were altered at 1:03 to "Where anyone at all from TV's 'Lassie' to Monroe's chassis...".

  • This kicked off the two-record set of the same name, originally released in October 1958. Frank DeVol conducts the orchestra...

  • @fromthesidelines You are so right ! Its a great recording of this song .... happy you enjoyed !!

  • @fromthesidelines is this song version 1958 or 1937?

  • @Griesmayer 1958 acually, Doris Day was only 13 in 1937

  • Sadly, this played on ABC radio right before the breaking news bulletin of Jack Kennedy's assasination was announced in November 1963

  • @louie77 I've heard that. Interesting.

  • @Dayniac4324 Yea, it's very sad and chilling when you hear it. I managed to find a clip. If you search "ABC radio jfk" the first or second link will bring you the broadcast of that.

  • My father had this album, and I loved this version. Now I'm aware of the original from 1937's "Hollywood Hotel", which is really the ultimate version..... This is a great turn by Doris and great video too!

  • @recovering16 I really love Doris' version .. happy you enjoyed too !!

  • i love how im 14 and i pretty much know who everyone in this video is!

  • @xxxSelenagomezfanxx I love that too !! It gives me hope that these movies and stars will live on for a long time !!

  • @xxxSelenagomezfanxx thats fun ! i am 14 too

  • @xxxSelenagomezfanxx I absolutely LOVE that too !! It gives me hope that these great movies and stars will continue to be enjoyed. You just made my day !! =)

  • Why are today's stars void of any glamour or class?

  • @logicpractitioner I don't know .. .but look at our society .. is there any class left ? After watching some of this Charlie Sheen junk on tv .. I'm truely amazed at what we deem a "star" ... and one of the highest paid too.

Really .. completely baffles me !

  • Rename this song to Hooray for the Hollywoood of about the early sixtie's and before. not that of today

  • @andeaver1937 Yes ... you'll notice all the stars I remember and love are from way before the sixties !! They don't make 'em like that anymore !

  • @andeaver1937 Yes.... have to agree with you. As you can see .. most of the stars I remember and love are from much earlier than the sixties. They don't make 'em like that anymore !!

  • I enjoyed your wonderful video!

    ---------Ellen

  • @Shabannie Thank you Ellen ... happy you did !!

  • A nice rendition of this classic. But it doesn't quite compare to Johnny Scat Davis's.

  • @theyank1948 Happy you enjoyed ... I'll have to check that out ! Thanks !!

  • A nice rendition of this classic. But it doesn't quite compare to Johnny Scat Davis's.

  • Haha I'm from Paducah, Ky.

  • @worthlessprotoplasm lol ...

  • @worthlessprotoplasm me too! :D

  • me to man i was at whalers last night

  • @worthlessprotoplasm I'm from Chillicothe, Missouri :D

  • @xoxsarahsaurus wow...we're in Kansas City Missouri !! =)

  • I just watched "Lover Come Back", our Doris is just great!

  • @MerleOberon I think thats my favorite one with Rock and Tony...just love it ! Yes ...Doris is the best !!

  • Great! Real Old Hollywood. If only we could turn back the clock.......

Doris Day is an American Icon!

  • @dazbradshaw I'm with you there... I'd go back .. any day ! About the only movies

I watch ... a good old classic movie is the best entertainment. Happy you enjoyed .. thanks !

  • Its a Person who uses their first Picture on a Montage about Hollywood by Showing Judy Garland since she was the Queen of the MGM Musicals. Doris' voice is a great Voice. I wish Judy had sang this song.

  • Hi everyone, Does anyone know were l can download this song for free

  • I am so glad I have this woman's autograph. She is a true legend and sings this song perfectly. She could sing any song perfectly and what an actress too.

  • @honeybee7700 I couldn't agree more ! I just sent her some of my video's and got the nicest letter back. She is truely a lovely woman....inside and out ! Thanks ... so happy you enjoyed !!

  • @Dayniac4324 That is such a fun song! It came from a Warner Bros. movie called 'Hollywood Hotel'.. You get a chance to see Benny Goodman & his orchestra perform 'Sing, Sing, Sing'..

  • @zipper179 Sing Sing Sing is one of my all time favorites !! I think I've seen Hollywood Hotel ... long time ago though. I think Doris does a great version of this one. I've seen some tv movie journalist's show (can't remember his name).. he uses Doris' version .. always fun to hear her when you don't expect it.

Thanks ... happy you enjoyed !

  • @Dayniac4324 The song was written by Richard Whiting and Johnny Mercer. The movie starred Dick Powell, Frances Langford, & LolaLane. Benny Goodman and his Orchestra were featured; and the song was sung by Johnny 'Scat' Davis. There is a sequence where Lionel Hampton plays in a quartet, which was highly unusual for those days. It was 1938, and just his being there was something, race relations being what they were..

  • Love it :)

Although it seems rather slow because I'm used to the Hillywood Show's rendition/parody of it which is rather fast :)

  • Doris liked to sing at a slower tempo. Sometimes she got her way with that. lol Happy you enjoyed !!

  • Hooray For Rory Emerald!

  • You should have credited the composers

  • @rubber4532 That's easy; Richard Whiting & Johnny Mercer

  • Doris Day recorded two LP's's titled "Hooray For Hollywood. Great lyrics by Johnny Mercer.

  • Yes - they were actually released twice.

As a double album on Oct. 20, 1958 and as 2 volumes on Jan. 1, 1959.

And thank you for crediting the composer as I obviously didn't !! lol

  • your right irish. this was the song interupted with the news of presedent kennedys shooting and i live in australia. nice song thats not played on radio very often.

  • Thank you -- that's very interesting - I had no idea. I think its a great version of the song. Thanks again !!

  • So much class... What happened </3

  • I don't know -- but I prefer the way it used to be !! There's very little class today - if any. Thanks - happy you enjoyed !

  • wasn't ABC radio playing this on the radio when they interupted to say President Kennedy had been shot?

  • Wow - I don't know - but that would be very interesting to find out if it was.

  • Yes. Don Gardiner gave the announcement.

  • yes it was, the broadcast can be heard in a video on this site

  • Love it!!
