This was their most impressive work yet and didn't relay on reusing poses, walk movements and recycled animation but actual animation with life and was their most expensive project
Interestingly enough, Puppetino was voiced by William Windom, who would later voice Uncle Chuck in the popular SatAM variation of "Sonic the Hedgehog". Windom is known for his roles in "Murder She Wrote", "Dallas" and the original "Mission: Impossible" TV series, as well as his role in the 1962 film "To Kill a Mockingbird".
I can't believe I hadn't heard of this movie for all this time! This movie is awesome and dark! I can see why critics would claim this movie is simply ripping off the Disney style, but at the same time, I can definitely see how this movie is considered a masterpiece in its own right. I'm 18, and the scene where Pinocchio gets turned back into a puppet scares the hell out of me! Whenever I see that puppet master, I think about the King Diamond album of the same name, it totally fits!
@minespatch I understand, I also think this movie is pretty good (I prefer the Disney version, but this movie is very enjoyable as well). People can enjoy something and still point out stuff that bugs them, at least in my opinion.
When she sings about parents, well, every kid gets mad sometimes at parents and tired of them telling you what do (In that moment, kids don't think that parents do that to their own good).
The last line is like she finally can passes HER message 'No one to hold you now', so, run while you can, while you still have your freedom and Puppetino cannot control you.
I just thought about something. Twinkle's song has some messages.
When she sings about the trips, is like she is calling someone of the public to join the Carnival, to trip and see the whole world and do whatever them want to do, which is ironical since once you joins the Carnival, you'll lost your freedom and won't be able to do what you want. Plus, you'll be a slave, so, you surely won't be happy. (I don't say she does in purpose, ok?)
I believe The Emperor and Puppetino killed her parents as now she's an orphan. But perhaps after everything goes well at the end of the movie, maybe she gets new foster parents.
But for a little while until she could live with a happy couple for foster parents then later when they reach age 17, i believe she went back to be with her lover and probably explored each other in that you know what way to express their love for each one. Then they got hitched and had kids of their own as Pinocchio became a head toymaker with Geppeto retired and Scalwag with Igor owning a business of their own. Someone should do fanfic stories based on this movie.
@Johnlindsey289 Either that, or Twinkle might have run away with a desire for her own freedom, before paying the price for abusing that freedom. That, of course, is another theory.
It's creeapy as hell! This carnival is like the one from "Something Wicked This Way Comes"...they "grant your wish", then take your soul and get you to join them
It's never outright said anywhere in the movie, but it's strongly speculated that she had been a real girl before the carnival ensnared her (as that's what they do).
I always wondered what was with the puppetmaster's English accent? A possible nod to the sinister Coachman in the Disney film who also spoke in a similar accent?
Also, it is a raccoon and a monkey who mislead Pinocchio initially in this cartoon, instead of a fox and a cat. Also, instead of Jiminy Cricket, we have a wooden glow worm, Gee Willackers, who gets magically brought to life. Also, the puppet master in this movie has a mustache instead of a beard, and seems to be a bit of a magician.
Well when Filmation was going to make a series of fairy tale sequels starting with "Pinocchio" then with "Snow White", "Arabian Knights", "Sinbad" (Before Dreamworks made it), "Red Riding Hood", an adaptation of "Alice Through the Looking Glass", "Jack and The Beanstalk" and more. The Disney company sued Filmation over the rights of the character Pinocchio in animation but they defended that Pinocchio was never made by Disney but by Carlo Collodi and the case was won.

Thanks for this upload Johnlindsey289, it's been 18 years since i saw this movie on TV, still...I was wondering...i'm not that good at the "legal" stuff. Won't this upload give you problems with Filmation(I think it no longer exists) or with someone that owns the rights of it? Still, thanks for this.. 5 stars and hope they don't remove this
Well the U.S. and Canadian rights belong to Starz since they own most of New World Pictures's stuff.
I think Starz should do a special edition DVD with audio commentary by Lou Schemier and co., a featurette with interviews, Trailers, TV Spots, and still gallery. If they could release Howard The Duck and Night of the Creeps this year on DVD then maybe Starz should do the same thing, just right to Anchor Bay or Starz.
Edward Asner and Frank Welker seem to be in everything together - as Scowl & Batso in "Happily Ever After" (Igor had a cameo in that film) and Hudson & Bronx in Disney's "Gargoyles".
Pinocchio kind of looks like the Caveman dude from the Daffy Duck cartoon "Daffy and The Dinosaur" and Mario from the Super Mario Brothers games (Similar outfit). And how could Gheppeto tell if the ruby was fake?
Pinocchio should've just shouted, "DON'T TOUCH ME THERE!" and proceeded his merrily way.

Filmation has Twinkle and Rankin Bass has Julietta? What's with these non-Disney Pinnochio's having a female love-puppet-interest?
minespatch 1 year ago
@minespatch Was Julietta in The New Adventures of Pinocchio or something? If so, do you remember which episode?
Also, I think it's just a common plot point that people like to resort to to make the happy ending even "happier".

Life of romancin, do what makes you happy
No home to go to, no one to hold you...
No one to hold you now
