With that hammer on I just can't get the notes to sound clear with the 5th fret on the E string so I play it open A. Maybe when I am a better player I'll retry it
Insanely good tutorial, but can you please tell me your secret to your large range (handwise)??! Whenever I get to the bar chord & hammer my hand cramps up because I can't reach it without having serious hand pains. Is there any way around it, or some way to make it easier (because I feel like I'm pulling ligaments in my hand)
I have a completly different fingering to this but use the same notes on strings 1,2 and 3 but i like some of the voicings you use on this lesson and so will have a hybrid version of both yours and mine. First class lesson Justin as usual, really enjoy your stuff. I've learned a great deal from your vids.
at 7:43 - that top A Dominic plays. I've watched the video with him playing on a comfy sofa and at 0:13 he plays it - I'm not sure how but it's definitely there. It looks like he's hitting a harmonic but I can't figure out how. Seems like it should come from the 7th fret on the D string but I don't know. Anyone?
dominic miller is the composer of the song. i watched his interview in a bulgarian tv show and the show man is the bass player of a great bulgarian hard rock band ahat. and ahat's most famous song is in english "black sheep"
Thanks for this, it would be easier to follow where to put your fingers though if you just said string a, d, etc rather than identifying the strings by their thickness and numbering them.
plz do anything by joe satriani pleaseeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee
Always love finding cool new riff/song diddies i've never seen b4. Great lesson that didnt laboriously go over minor trivial details most people capable of playing this song know. Not talking about theory though, I like your analysis of chords and all that jazz. Best Teacher on youtube for technique and song imo. Justin transcribes from the record then searches for videos of the artist playing it live unlike most teachers who are often careless and lacking the intricate details.
ring finger 5th fret Low E, pinky finger 5th fret D string, index finger barres g and b at 2nd fret, and middle finger hammers onto 4rd fret on the G string. [ 5x522(2) ]. If you have trouble with the ring finger on the low E string you can just replace that with The open A string instead.
for the 9th fret C#7sus4 1:57 into the video he explains it. For the "live" version though a barre would solve his problem and having one finger per string down on the neck is not as big a deal as the stuff up past the 7th fret or so.
And BTW, I find the fingering in the very beginning (1st finger 11th fret, 3rd and 4th at 14th) much harder than the little finger stretching in Dominic's way of playing.
Thank you so much for this, Justin! I first heard the song at the end of 'Leon' and I've loved it ever since. I've wanted to be able to play it well for such a long time, but my fingers just don't seem to be long enough to play it the 'Dominic Miller way'. So this is going to help me out a lot.
Justin Sandercoe, could you possibly teach us how to play Heartbeats - the Jose Gonzalez rendition?
