HOW TO DO THE BLACK STRIPES ON VAN HALEN 5150 GUITAR

where can i buy an unfinished kramer body so i can make myself this guitar?? im thinking of just using a strat body but dunno if that would look right.... please somebody give me some advise

How long do you wait after painting to pull the paint and about how many coats per color?

@Marshallstack3203 after painting i wait 1/2 to 1 hour before pulling the tape. i usually spary 3 coats to get a solid color. on the black i try to just do 1 coat. so it's not so thick.

@Marshallstack3203 spray primer wait 24 hours. spray white coats wait 24 hours. lay the tape design then spray the red, wait 1/2 hour then pull the tape. wait 24 hours then lay the tape design for the black tape, then spray the black, wait 1/2 hour then pull the tape. wait 48 hours before starting the clear coats. start with very thin coats. if you get a run in the clear in the beginning it may make the color coats run aswell. after the fist 5 or 6 coats it should be ok.

very cool what kinda paint and clear coat did you use?

@bllhaynes Rustoleum Lacquer spray paints. same for the clear.

do you have to sand the paint back after each colour to make it smoother?

@nosmoking099 no, no sanding untill after the clear coat has fully cured. there is no need to sand the paint coats. the wetsand on the clear coat will even thing all up.
