  • @hellobasil21 YES MY HANDS ARE IN THE AIR

  • She should seriously play Elphaba. I'm f-ing serious.

  • I love her mix.

  • Where can I get the SHEET MUSIC for this????

  • ok I am obsessed with this video! I think I've watched it like 10 times just today!

  • anyway I can get my hands on this arrangement??? LOVE IT!!

  • WOW.

    i think im in love.

  • Just wondering. Has Marla gotten the sheet music for this yet, and if so, how can I get this arrangement without listening to it and copying it down myself?

  • The flip into head at 2:17. COME ONNNN

  • @mcfit707 haha

  • I love Marla but the first singer is just awful.

  • fabulous!

do you know where i can get the sheet music for this??

  • That was HOT!

  • That was pretty damn awesome

  • fucking fierce. thats all.

  • *raises hand*

  • Fierce, fierce, fierce.

  • the first singer is incredible.

  • @hhalfred she is AWESOME!

  • Amazing voice, but I wish there was more passion behind her face.

  • Very cool. It reminds me of the famous duet that Judy Garland and Babara Streisand did between Happy Days and Get Happy. These two songs go together because when Sondheim was writing Sooner or Later he was most likely writing a pastiche/homage to Harold Arlen.

I would stage it slightly differently. They should relate with each other. They could switch places when each takes the lead and look at each other on the long notes.

  • love the arrangement

  • Amazing :D

  • You can tell she listens to Sutton Foster alot. She sounds very smilar.

  • @mrkafoni More like Sutton Foster listens to her!

  • anyone who ever attempts to emulate Judy Garland should first record themselves in the privacy of their own homes, stand in stufication at their atrocity, there mere attempt to touch a GOD, and reconsider breathing as a necessity...

  • marla mindelle's voice is unreal. unreal.

  • so good. I can't even handle it. It hurts because she's so g-d damn good.

  • whereeeee can i get this arrangement?!

  • AMEN!!!!!!!!!!!!

    Holy Shit!

  • Ok So I need u to stop having such INCREDIBLE performances. I cant stop watching this!!!

  • OK you lot, who's playing the keys

  • i would just like to point out that she is just casually belting her tits off...and outsinging the shit out of her voice teacher! this girl is so broadway!!!!! get it marla!!

  • it's more of a mix, but yeah, she sounds great

  • next stop bway for SURE

  • you're so good

  • This is absolutely incredible! Their voices are phenomenal and the arrangement is beautifully written

  • she really is the next big thing in musical theatre..

  • sick. sick. sick. I shit my pants everytime I watch this!

  • They are both just...wow.

Marla, I'm GOING to do a show with you one day.

  • My grandmother went to CCM. She was an amazing musician. She could sit down and play the piano by ear and sing--it was awesome. She would be so proud to see that it has and will continue to produce amazing graduates!

  • your voice is the most amazing thing i've heard in SO long. your other videos are HILARIOUS. You inspire me as a Musical Theatre major. SERIOUSLY! any time i need inspiration, I listen to YOU. THANK YOU. I can't even COUNT the times I show your videos to friends, haha. mostly when drunk, but who's counting ;)

  • this is ridiculous. My vocal cords worship you, Marla.

  • that's a high belt if i've ever heard one.

  • Raise your hand if you think Marla Mindelle was created by angels to make everyone else in the world feel bad about their belt/mixing by comparison!

    *raises hand*

  • @hellobasil21 Not really impressed with her vowels. she is just screaming. I like the older womans voice better

  • i dont understand why there isnt a daily discussion on this video.

marla deserves more than we've been giving her.

it's time to cast aside our personal lives and give it ALL to marla.

  • @jonnydarko this comment is perhaps, the creepiest thing ever. hahah

  • This is just incredible!

  • marla mindelle has such a unique voice...it's like a hybrid of Bernedette Peters and Barbra Streisand!!

  • that's a really good observation... hadn't thought of that.

  • that's actually a very good comparison. hahaha

A mix between Bernedette Peters and.... someone else.

  • bernedette peters and lachanze lol

  • marla is so FIERCE

  • OMG AMAZING

    WOW!!!

  • It's very possible to act while "just standing there." Look closely. You'll see it.

  • True, but I think this song needs a different approach, more interaction.

And as for looking closely, I shouldn't have to. Stage acting is projecting yourself onto an audience, not making the audience work to interpret the story. It works in film but not on the stage.

Of course, I will say that the vocals pretty much make up for it :)

I mean no offense, it really is a spectacular performance! I'm just giving my honest opinion.

  • stage acting rarely translates to film well.

  • sometimes less is more....

  • Comment removed

  • what's that note that marla sings at the end? i could NEVER belt that. that's amazing.

  • It's an E-flat :)

  • i freakin LOVE when she sings "FOR you've been through the mill" where her voice gets all edgy. ugh she's so damn INCREDIBLE!!!!! one of the best duets on facebook.

  • I think i just jizzed .. and this is at least the 20th time i've seen this

  • It looks like she doesn't even have to try, I wish I could sing like that.

  • Jesus Christ I'm in love with her voice. I've had to watch this over and over again for like, a half hour.

  • when you said "its all a crazy game" ,at 2:00, i got chills

    W0W:]

  • that was simply phenominal

  • This is amazing you have such a gift. I've watched all your videos multiple times. Do you have or know where i can get this sheet music, its amazing!

  • AMAZING!!!! i luv this.. i've watched it like 5 times now!

  • This performance will NEVER get old! I've watched it for over two years now! Still amazing! :)

  • this is spectacular! marla-your voice has such power! You are fantastic...keep doing what you're doing, because I assure you, it's working.

  • um. she is ALL THAT.

  • please, PLEASE belt your face off better than that and then comment.

    thank you.

  • that was great!

    ...but find your light girrrl!!

    ;)

  • wow. i am usually against covers of judy garland's songs but this is the exception.

  • Ms Linhart-what a pleasure to hear you. You are a gem. Thank you for sharing your gift with us out here in tube land.

  • Amazing arrangement.

  • Brovo love it nice sound good singers this makes me think of somone that is at my school they sound just a like not in a bad way but in a good way SWEET I LOVED IT NICE VOICE SELCTIONS !!!!!

  • I dont care...where can I get her CDs?

  • marlas piana proffesor composed this arrangement, she is currently working on getting it. but she doesnt own it.

  • where would i get a copy of this variation of music?

  • fierce!!!

  • look at 2:25 tell me what you think lol

  • did she wink?! i never caught that before! good eye!

  • Very nice singing voice! and very expressive 5 *****,nice pianist too!.... Marc Jones Pop/Jazz Vocalist..Los Angeles,U.S.A.

  • jeepers Creepers... Nice voice! But WHY the Extreme VIBRATO? it should be done more "rubato" and "sraight"... Listen to Sinatra sing it... "The GAL That Got Away"... No disrespect intended... Keep Swingin'!

  • it's broadway, baby, not jazz.

  • It's a SALOON/Torch song "BABY". Many "Broadway" "show tunes" have become JAZZ standards...

  • I'm not debating that, but the style in which she's singing is not jazz, it's musical theatre.

  • nicely done... an interesting variation on a song so closely related with the fabulous and late Judy Garland. I listened to it as a tribute to her, and think she would have approved -- the real compliment.

  • What an amazing comment on a teacher/student relationship! Bravo on both accounts ladies, it speaks volumes to who you are as artists and people!

  • dont even try this if you can't get close to garland!

  • its a complete different arrangement, and marla is frickin amazing, as is plain to see.

  • I'm on my feet, shouting, clapping my hands off! Wonderful in every way!

  • Marla, you are the bomb diggity.

    =D

    R

  • E flat is the Marla money note. AMAZING.

  • this might quite possibly be the best duet on youtube

  • the students voice reminds me of bernadette peters for some reason

  • God would i love to train with you :( You're far too enchanting for your own good.

  • I love your voice....but where's the emotion?

  • Where's the emotion?? Which one are you talking about...Marla or Pat? I would never question either of them...

  • both of you.

  • wow i love your voice. i miss musical theatre! great tone. i could listen to you all day.

  • i don't know if I should stop singing or keep singing after this video! you are awesome :O)

  • you're amazing and you know it! yes!

  • in love.

  • that is the definition of eargasm.

  • I'm so glad i'm not the only one who keeps watching this!

  • this is sooooooo good.... i love it!

  • This video truly never gets tiresome! I watch it about once a month (on average lol), and I watch it like the first time! Just a stunning performance!

  • I keep coming back too - I love it! This video is included in our "Best of College Musical Theatre" playlist...

  • ugh I love you! I can't wait to see you in 'Drowsy' when it comes to Providence, RI! I already have my tickets!!!! :D I only wish classes would still be going on at that time so you could come give us a master class!

ps - I'm so obsessed with this video! I watch it every single day!!!!

  • i like how she's totally showing up her teacher, hahaha.

  • you have one of the most amazing voices i've EVER heard!

i hope by the time i reach my senior year in college, my voice will be as developed and powerful as yours :]

eek, does anyone know where I can get sheet music for this?

  • Someone at CCM arranged it, and Marla is on tour at the moment, but on her website she says that when she gets back she's going to work on getting the sheet music for her songs.

  • You remind me of Mary Louise Parker. You look like her and your mannerisms are very reminiscent of hers.

    You have an incredible voice.

  • her belt kind of sounds like sutton foster's. thats a compliment :)

  • she's excellent. Broadway watch out!

  • This is just amazing! I don't know how many times I've watched this!!! Bravo

  • I love how the duet goes into counterpoint for the second half!

  • wow... wow... she's just plain awesome

  • Watching this video is addicting.

  • does anyone wonder how many people have actually watched this? all i mean is i'm responsible for at least 20 hits. i wonder if there are only like 50 of us out there.

    reDONKulous.

  • she is ridiculously talented.

  • She's far too talented to be playing Kitty. It's not even funny.

  • AGREED

  • That's an insult to all character actors. You have to be insanely talented to even get into the chorus of a Broadway show. She's amazingly talented, she got a great role in a great show and I'm sure she's marvelous in it.

  • well, she's beyond insanely talented. In my opinion, she's well beyond. And girls right out of UMich who are going straight to broadway aren't half as impressive as Marla Mindelle.

  • I really don't mean to sound bitchy, or like an ass or anything, but, how am I insulting anyone? I didn't say anyone else was less talented, nor did I say Marla should be playing nothing but the lead. She could still play a character role, but a bigger one, because Kitty is fairly small.

And on a fangirly note, she really, really was marvelous as Kitty.

  • The role of Kitty is a marvelous role, wildly funny, very memorable and to say that it's "too small" for her is insulting. There are a lot of wonderful roles out there that are smaller character roles and there's nothing wrong with them. She's right out of college and already touring in a bigtime show in a role. She could count herself lucky to get an understudy at this stage in her life, but she's going on every night in a role. Good for her.

  • Just finished applying to CCM today!! Woo hoo!

  • i hope you came to your senses and applied to u of michigan too.

  • jesus fucking christ.

    marla.

    is so goddamn fierce.

i'm officially seeing the drowsy tour just to meet her at the stagedoor....nancy opel is icing on the cake.

    cya in philly!

  • that shit is rockin my lip gloss is poppin

  • FIERCE.

  • i second that!

  • Damn Marla.

    Get it girl.

  • this is wonderful.....can anyone tell me are these two songs they put together or is it from something.......where is each song from ....or well you now what i mean.... i would die to get my hands on a copy of them.....

  • "Sooner or Later" is a song Sondheim wrote for the Dick Tracy film. It was originally sung by Madonna, but has been performed by many a musical theatre performer.

"The Man That Got Away" is from the Judy Garland film "A Star is Born."

  • I love this arrangement its amazing! You both have great voices! Amazing belting Marla, and you are hilarious in your other videos!

  • MARLA!! She rocks!

  • I am officially obsessed with this girl! These clips seriously never get tiresome for me. If I ever need to laugh or remind myself what amazing musical theatre belting sounds like, I find nobody better than Marla. If she doesn't get to originate some roles on Broadway here pretty soon, something is seriously wrong with the business. I will definitely go see Drowsy simply to see her! BAH!!! GO MARLA!!

  • Can't wait to see you in Drowsy!!

  • Congrats on getting cast in the first national tour of the Drowsy Chaperone as Kitty!!!

  • marla mindelle youre a fucking genius. Youre the feircest mt singer ever. And that is coming from an opera singer. You work it.

  • true, and their voices sound wonderful together.

  • whoa, the voice teacher taught her well.

  • GODLY!

  • I really want this arrangement for a concert this summer. I wonder if there is anywhere I can get it.

  • this is ridiculous... i cant stop watching

  • oh my god, i thought i was the only one.

  • this is so freaking awesome

  • AHHHHHH!!!!!! I love it!

  • I think I just peed myself. No, seriously.

  • Congrats to Marla for being cast in Cole Porter's new musical The Pirate!

  • ummm.. That was a year ago.

  • yes, but still congrats for her for being cast with in such a small amount of time after leaving school. and no one acknowledged it. i thought it would be nice too

  • WOW...fantastic. I thought I could sing...till I saw this....Thanks. >>>BROKEN DREAMS>>>>

    You both Killed it!

  • did you make this arrangement yourself? one of the best TRUE Belters i have ever heard!!!!

  • that was great. you have a wicked belt, and mix quality resulting in a really warm tonal sound.

    well done!

  • that was incredible. one of the best duets ive ever heard!

  • this sucks. period.

  • Amazing! Where can you find this arrangement

  • this is so good! it makes me feel talentless. amazing, really really awsome!

  • yah shes hot and amazing, a good combo

  • I like pickles...

  • City of Angels? What is this from?

  • "Sooner or Later" is the oscar winning song Stephen Sondheim wrote for Disney's DICK TRACY and was sung by Madonna in the film. "The Man That Got Away" was written by Harold Arlen for Judy Garland in the film "A Star is Born".

    This arrangment is steller.

  • was this arrangement done by them, or is it available somewhere? if so, where can one find it?

  • HOLY FU*K! =O!

  • THAT GIRL IN THE BLACK IS AMAZING!

  • And the voice teacher is no slouch either.

  • i'm going to apply soon!!

  • that sounds good! i think i will apply on a musical school in frankfurt/germany. but i have time^^, i'm still going to school ;)

  • omg i want to go to CCM so bad!!
