Honey the Great Dane & Muesli the Kitten: The Evolution of a Friendship

Amazing video. We got our Great Dane a few months before his second birthday so missed out on the puppy part. We got a kitten 6 months ago and took a while for them to be friends. My other dog is a puggle and bonded with the kitten in about 10 days and are like sisters and even play with our parrots together. The Great Dane is still afraid of the birds. Animals make life so much better.

I love the way the ball rolls right under honeys leg and he never even notices it because he's in a deep stare with kitty. Please most more video so we can see how things are now with honey & his new found friend. Hope your hearts are healing from the loss of lemon. You seem like Wonderful pet owners! God bless.

Awe this is such a great video! We have a kitten that we just got and we're introducing to our two Golden Retrievers and this video really helped. We're on about day three and one is still at the very cautious stage and the other is already sniffing the kittens nose. Good to know we are on the right track though. :)

yeah i just got a new kitten yesterday, it has not been introduced to my dog yet. my dog recently lost my companion of 16 years i got my old cat when i was 2 years old im now 18 and he passed july 4th, my dog seems depressed and i have welcomed a new kitten although i dont see my dog being that interested. he was with my cat 10 years.

this video is great. We are bringing home a kitten to our 4 year old ridgeback in a couple of weeks and this vid really showed how patient everyone will have to be and eventually it will work. I started getting choked up near the end when I saw Honey as a pup. Beautiful video and thanks for sharing ^__^

We rescued our Karma (female Great Dane) 7 years ago. She is now 9. When we brought her home we had two cats, Harley 12 and Gizmo 11. Neither of the cats never saw another animal much less a giant dog. Karma was great with them, but unfortunately we lost Harley in November of 2009 and Gizmo in November of 2010. Karma stills looks for Gizmom they were buds....Anyway, after watching your video I feel better about welcoming two kittens into our home later this week. Any advise? Thanks Teresa

So far, I go see the kitten’s everyday (the last few days) so once I get home their smell is all over me. Karma is being so sweet, so I am hoping she will do OK, tomorrow morning when the official intro happens. I just love watching your honey girl, its shows how much she is truly loved. @KarmaMyLove Go with the flow, or otherwise stated, go with your gut. Things happen for a reason and never question those things, that just wastes time. Went from two cats, to three cats and a husband. Back to husband and two cats, now still my husband (thankfully) and four cats. Things just happen, let it happen and think how lucky you are.

Thanks for the video, was touching and funny as hell. My husband and I became highly concerned when abruptly Honey was carrying SOMETHING in her mouth... we then saw it was her stuffed elephant, thank God!

When we adopted our two kittens they were both quite terrified of our 100lb dog, but as time went on they became better pals.

@commontoasty I think it's a bit harder when it's your way around. They always say it's easier to introduce a kitten to an established dog than a dog to a resident cat! (and in the latter case, they always recommend a puppy ideally, not an adult) As long as you are a strong pack leader, most dogs will accept the status quo after a few days...whereas cats are often a law onto themselves! :-)

I also looked at your website and see that you have a bunch of videos (freestyle, agility...) How many times a week do you go to class with Honey? And do you train like every day?

And how is Honey with your children?

I was also wondering how you taught Honey to heel in public and to walk on leash without pulling?

@joe42968 Thanks for your kind words - yes, we have been asked a few times but I'm not that interested in that sort of "fame"! :-) Honey's modelled for a famous pet photographer (Rachael Hale) in her books and she's been featured in various magazines and been on TV shows a few times. Mostly small stuff to help charity, that sort of thing.

Wonderful video I watched the whole thing! Reminds me of when I got my young puppy and introduced him to my big male cat, Riki. They were a little at odds with each other for a few days (and the size difference was not as big as with your two girls, Yuki is a Chinese Crested so not much bigger than the cat now, though the cat is fatter! ^_^) but after they first learned that they both liked to wrestle and chase feather balls, they have been inseperable. They even share a bed at night! <3

@Photoshoplilli - Yes, we chose her name on purpose! We wanted a food name that would go with "Honey" - so we were considering all sorts of foods. Our last cat was called Lemon - as in "Honey & Lemon" which is the hot drink that you have when you are feelign sick. So we wanted a name for our new kitten to go with Honey also - and Muesli was the one we liked best!
