That's Roger (Twiggy) Day doing the announcement. He can be heard every weekday on BBC Radio Kent. It's a great program with lots of offshore songs and memories and really interesting guests.
I have many great memories of RNI and of course Caroline and Big L . I wonder if anyone has recordings of those very good choir-like jingles - the ones which lasted quite a few seconds and were used as a backing music while the DJs were talking.
I put the radio on, nothing, in school they were asking the teachers where has radio Caroline gone. no music radio can only be evil doing it, unable to pick up radio 1 on 247 up here in the north, I was devastated. My father said I have got a big ship for you, keep watching the news and then it came on the most powerful pop ship ever with global reach, and the evil that thinks that it is good, jammed, bombed, impounded. My father who just happens to be God.
RNI was one of the most powerful offshore radio stations of the seventies, I knew some of the english jocks from my own days on pirate radio, we all put up such a fight to keep the stations on the air. Anyone got any good old 'Radio City 299' jingles we can listen too? wow those days on Shivering Sands Forts were so good.
Radio's London - Big L; Caroline; Veronica; North-Sea International; were all amazing... floating on the ocean defying the government, providing us with 24hr music and messages of solidarity... ah those were the days... never thought I'd hear myself say those words... LOL... but it was much more alive than the pap we're fed now...
In maart 1978 werd het schip verkocht naar Libië, herdoopt als El Fatah en is in 1984 gebruikt als doelschip voor de Libische marine. En werd tot ontploffing gebracht, en zo zonk het schip in de Golven van Sidra.
From the top to A L L A K A D at the bottom only and no other living or dead, allakad top of the bottom, not top of the top, allakad non-stop cream of the crop, tomorrows top now at: ubroadcast.
