Try telling that to anyone who didn't drown because the boats were ELVEN-made. They can't sink or capsize. They look delicate but they're strong and sturdy as Noah's Ark. It's the Elvish "enchantment of virtue" that goes into their making. That same enchantment makes Elf arrows fast in flight and always on target. It's also what makes an Elf sword able to cut through orc's armor like it was paper, and makes their ropes tie and untie on command.

well the reason u see haldir die at helms deep is cuz pj wanted a hero to lead the elves in battle. in fact after he leads the fellowship to lorien he is never mentioned by tolkien in the books. so its only drama for the movies boyz and girls

@Celeblain Guys, Jackson explains that in one of the commentary tracks. They didn't have the energy to find "more gorgeous men" (The writher girls jokes that they ran out of them) to play Elronds sons, so they put an elven army in helms deep instead (to describe that new human/elves alliance) , and they had to make the battle feel like it mattered, so they had to sacrifice Haldir. To give the battle an inpact. They couldn't just kill extras. You guys just aren't nerdy enough!

I so love Craig and Haldir and I didn't want to see the guy die either - but, and, I think this is from IMDB trivia, Haldir dies because they needed a death to heighten the drama on Two Towers since none of the main characters die.

I'm pretty sure I read that all the Elves who fought at Helm's Deep (except Legolas) died--they were the best fighters, so they were put in the most dangerous spot. I think the death of Haldir is important to show the cost and pain of war. It was somebody we knew and liked, as well as an Elf who would otherwise live forever, so his death means more to us and it's sadder.

@Omboth In the books though you read about the campaigns the elves are fighting elsewhere, which dont get mentioned in the movies. This way they got to expand on that whole aspect of the - considerable - background action without being literal.
