Here i have 2 put my bike up every winter from about november to march. so everytime riding season rolls around i am super stoked to break out the bikes. i couldn't imagin selling my bike. i totally envy u being able to ride year round. but hey, u know what they say: too much off a good thing...
its not a bad thing to take a break every once in a while.
The summer here was hard work too. I don't have a light bike-jacket and I would strip-off after a even a short ride, stinking of sweat... I live up at about the 1,500ft mark and for the last 3 weeks it's been nothing but dense fog, rain and heavy leaf-fall. My Ducati is insured for the whole year, but I daren't go out in it in case I took a spill. Today... the season has finally flipped to dry-cold-sunny and I'm the only mother on two wheels :O)
Look at it this way. I am from Michigan. I have to put the bike up in the winter. I imagine if I lived where you are I wouldnt have to put it away, but wouldnt be able to ride on days that were hot like that.
Again, in Michigan, you have to stop riding in the winter, so where you are, summer is the boon.
I've considered to drop vlogging but I've just slowed down on it a lot... I am possibly going to sell my bike next year... not sure, to get a car to be able to use it in winter for college since we get snow here but I think I'll keep the bike and use the public transportation in winter and use the bike in the spring, summer and fall...
I'm just 17 though so funds aren't there to have a bike and a car with insurance... I'd have to sell my bike to get a car and then get a better paying job to pay for the insurance
yea, i know what your talking about, i lived in malaysia for 2 years and it is always like 80 degrees out and 100000 percent humidity everyday, i just got used to it tho, after my bike was a suckfest for a month
I feel you on the not wanting to ride. It rains here 3/4th of the year if not more in the NW. I decided that I'm just going to ride all year though, the fuel i'm saving, the fun i have still isn't worth getting my car out.
Oddly enough I made a religious video thursday, but I haven't posted any vids cause i have been working with a new program. I might post it as a video respose if you touch on the same topic.
yah I thought about it after an accident. Then a girl asked me if I was ever going to ride again... and all I could say was yes. lol here i am riding again. Changed my plans upgrading to a 1000cc though. Waiting til next summer now hehe.
Never had that before even in the intense heat. Heat doesnt bother me as much as cold tho but i do remember you talking about how you get really into things and then lose interest. I kinda wonder if this is happening or will happen with riding for you.
Good stuff bro. For me it's my car I struggling with selling or not. I have a 94 Mustang GT Vert and loved it the last 8 years. Since I've had the bike I never drive it. Compared to a Motorcycle it's BORING. My wife is bugging me to sell it.
have you been by the river lately i havnt been to WM is a week or to and havnt looked at how high it is i know its like 2 feeet from touching the Endom bridge.
5 stars and ride on, its only temporary, and yea it would've been a big regret but you know i understand you, just take some time off do what you have to do and then get back on, you'll feel refresh
i put 22,000 miles on my bike this year.. 38 degrees today and i was still pumped to ride..closest to giving up are thoughts on trading in my R1 for something more 'tame' before i kill myself.
Rain, cold wind, I can handle. Heat greater than body temperature I minimize. I had a case of heat exhaustion once while walking a long way on a hot day. I don't need that on a bike!!!!
the only time i've ever wanted to just stop was that i don't get to ride enough so i thought it made no sense to have a bike. but then i smacked myself in the head and said stop being stupid. live to ride, ride to live.
im in shreveport right now and i know what you mean with that heat. especially on days when the real temp. is 100 then you have the humidity would make it feel like 110.
also down south on the bayous is worse. it feels like 200% humidity, which is where i grew up lol
I feel ya man, although, as you said i'm dealing with WINTER winter, not a nice 80 degrees outside XD.. it makes me a little regretful sometimes when I ride out and it starts hailing and I have summer gloves, its really painful. But as you said, once you get on the bike and start riding its hard to not like it :)
Interesting. Can honestly say I have never felt like I don't want to ride. The weather here in Ireland is very changeable and the opposite to your problem in that it is very wet a lot of the time. There have been times I admit when being soaked through with an hours driving to get home that I wish I was home already but thats as close as it gets the next day I cant wait to get back on and get rained on again lol.

Funny thing is, I had no idea how cold this winter would be. I had to sit out most of it so when I got back on the bike I was super stoked.

A couple of times in my life I stepped back on how good of a car I had to be able to keep riding.

I'm glad you decided to keep your bike! Nothing like being on a bike :D, I haven't driven a car in months.

I lost 3 friends to driving cars. Yeah, riding is dangerous but most good things are.

I understand the heat, but camelback with ice water goes a long way to cool you off.

I cut my riding way back when the temperature goes over 96F. That grounded me for most of August here in central Texas.

they have vented jackets for this issue. i dont know if they work because all my jackets are budget jackets with no vents and little armor. lol
choopdewoot 2 years ago
Myself being such a new rider, I cant say I've had an issue of giving up riding.
Granted, I'll never have to deal with humidity and heat like you mentioned. Rain yes. Humidity...no.
