need major help getting the presonus firestudio project to send signal into protools9 for recording... its completely dead. PLEASE HELP,,,, going to watch these videos... hopefully it helps :(
Hey mate, thanks for the vid, real helpful, just wondering though, when you're connecting that compressor with the send and returns, is that for the purpose of running that compressor as a stereo buss when your mixing down, or for compressing signal on the way in ?
@mattluvsvox921 erm, not so much. Most studios are primarily digital now. Either way, you're supposing that the at home user will be able to record analog easily; which they won't. I agree, analog is great, but simple fact - it is not in use for recording as much as it used to be.
@ObediaTutor major record labels still record analog; but most at home studios are digital. mostly cause of the cost of equipment. nice setup! how did you connect this to yur computer (usb)?
@ObediaTutor Hello Brian, thanks for a very speedy reply and such a kind offer! I will get myself some balanced 1/4 Inch to XLR cables and try it first and see how I get on.
@ObediaTutor Are you absolutely certain that this way of connecting the compressor works? After trying to link send and return with the insert on my compressor and having read the Firestudio manual it is clear that when connecting anything to the return jacks on the back of the Firestudio, Channels 1 and 2 on the front are overridden.
@PhilipPorter This is true, and you're right, after I've looked at the manual again. The mic would need to be plugged into 3/4 in order for it to input into the compressor. I'll make a note on the video, as I can't go back and edit the original video. Thanks for bringing this to my attention. /brian
@rhythm61067 well, you don't import it into the hardware; you import it into the mixing software you're using, like Cubase. We'll help you with this if you want, and give you free time to do it!
2. can they be used for anything... like general outputs 1 and 2 are not dedicated to anything... can i assign what ever i want to any of the outputs?
i am looking at gettting one and the HP60 and hooking them up together.
if you get the fire studio does it mean the firebox is not needed...i srry but the knobs look the same as the ones on firebox except theres more, im sorry and im new to this if it sound like a silly question
If you buy a 3 hundred dollar roll of cable, you can make your own and have a lifetime of cables, XLR,1/4, inch, balanced and unbalanced alike. The only thing different are the connectors and the way a balanced cable is soldered vs an unbalanced cable, but everything else is the same, except for digital cables which have a different impedance rating.
@ObediaTutor That's true, but if my special Olympics ass can do it, anyone can. What is your opinion on the Studio One Pro, is it worth the 2 hundred dollar upgrade from Studio One Artist?
@titus1698 Glad you like them! The Presonus units are very nice because they're well-priced and powerful. Neither is really better, but the Presonus gear is pretty great!
@JacobawSnow If you like the Tube sound, you should probably check out the tube. As for the difference between the firestudio and the project, the project is a bit more powerful, but the Firestudio would get you by just fine, I'm sure.
This is probably a very general question that would require a very detailed answer. But in keeping it simple. Is the firestudio project better or worse than the firestudio?
@jaydx376 The compressor only works for the channel it's assigned to if you use it as an insert on the mic channels. You could, however, insert a compressor on an AUX track, then send the audio of your MIC channel into the AUX track, thereby using just the one compressor.

VerseIsStyle 9 months ago
@VerseIsStyle Most major labels do not record analog. Most are recording digital, in protools studios. There are very little analog studios left.
This unit connects via firewire.
ObediaTutor 9 months ago
@mattluvsvox921 because it's easy, fast, and editing is easier. Analog is great - but it's on its way out.

if i dont use a converter do i need to mess with the back of the firestudio other then the firewire cable thing?

@xXBrianWalkerXx not really, but it all depends on your setup.

I feel I must question the use of channels 1 and 2 after connecting anything to the Insert-Return Jack.

2 questions.
1. are the general outputs stero or mono?
2. can they be used for anything... like general outputs 1 and 2 are not dedicated to anything... can i assign what ever i want to any of the outputs?
i am looking at gettting one and the HP60 and hooking them up together.

@SlashRulesGibson22 each output is mono, to form a stereo pair.
yes, they can be used for anything.
ObediaTutor 1 year ago
@SlashRulesGibson22 the general outs are mono. They can be used for anything via the software mixer.
