Both Lab and the Golden are very good dogs to have. There timperments are simular if not the same. As for shedding the golden retrievers, hair grows, if you keep the hair short ,less problems with shedding. The Labs hair won't grow but so long so it has to brake off sometime. I personally don't like Labs because of there short hair and the fact that its stiff. I like golden retrievers because of the color and the fact i can choose to have it short or long. Short less shedding long more shedding.

@mastaroni6 Get yourself a lab. I mean both breeds are great and make awesome family pets but the golden retrievers are known in general to be more aggressive than labs,they are number 3 on the U.S. bite parade after German Shepperd and chow chow (even though that has a lot to do with their owners). Also the coat of a golden retriever needs much more grooming and attention than a lab's! Plus it would be much easier for you to find a lab puppy in the UK than a golden one!

Both dogs have superb temperment but, in my experience. labs are a little more dog aggressive. But, for an all around dog, you really can't go wrong with either breed. Magnificent family dogs. In both cases, make sure you have a vet check their hips first.

Golden retrievers r beautiful but I think the long hair would be really messy when shedding. I'm an owner of 2 labs! Labs r easy to train too, any dog can be a good dog with patience & training.

@TheeLovelyFee But I assume Lab shedding must be incredibly intense, too, only with short hairs--is that right? I say it because I've got a Brittany, whose fur is pretty short but a bit longer than a Lab's, and he's an unbelievable shedder. It's nuts. o.O These kinds of coats tend to be the worst for it. Of course, my own long hair sheds pretty well itself, but we can always tell whose hair's whose around here. xD The Britt is the absolute worst. Oy. Ah, but I love him, though. ;]

I've had labs all my life...i perfer them over the goldens. but both breeds r pretty much the same. but i'd say go with the labs..they r known for being perfect kid dogs.

My Golden Retriever Is Great with kids and he's really good with my Shih-Tzu I would have to go with golden Retriever because there easy to train best to train wile puppies and they are just wonderful pet and dog breed and about the lab 2 of my friends had each 1 will i got my golden and one was biting people and the other growls at people when they have a bone but maybe they got that from there mother her I don't know or maybe they were not train when they were puppies (Goldens) :)

Temperment comes as much from the pup's environment the 1st 12 weeks as it does from the type of breed!

If it's not right, you'll have to undo the damage through patience and training.

i have other way around, lab in this video is just 10 months and goldie is of 3 years. for me , they enjoy playing together but yeah lab always looses in all sports except for being a obidient dog.
