  • the very best of brit talent..love richie

  • i do,tn give a shit about other guitarists . richie is the best ever. he may not have much of a persnality but boy can he play...beats everyone i,ve heard .

  • @olivermctexas jimmy page?

  • @olivermctexas I love the way ritchie looks like he ain't thrying ,but his guitar work is brilliant....take a look at frank marino "real live".

  • My first gig, and what an impression it made.

  • I would fucking sell my soul for that kind of guitarplaying... There is no god, only one master who wears BLACK!

  • Great posting!!! Thankyou! Wish I had been there.

  • Blackmore was at the top of his game in these years 79-81. Too bad they didn't do more with Bonnett. Down to Earth was an incredible album. These guys were all peaking then..... look what Dio did with Sabbath in the same time frame. Win win for music lovers.

  • nobody can beat dio on vocals

  • about Roger Glover?? man he still Rockin' after all this years.... the best of the best..

  • wow wish i was there you lucky people ,....why did they cut stargazer from the live clips? this is one the best ctr not since or ever will there be a ritchie blackmore so underated ,and not reconised time thease mcfarlane toys, knucklebonze did a ritchie figure,..from this do a dio n ritchie and call it rainbow risen with the fist n rainbow behind it.....

  • Ritchie Fucking Blackmore, Nuff Said.

  • yep i was there too.. great day! was my first open air festival.. 17 then and 48 now lol

  • I was there too great memories of this : )

  • Sensacional!!!

  • I wish I were there....

  • long live blackmore he is a rock god

  • Cozy and Dio probably formed a band in Heaven, perhaps with Randy Rhoads on guitar.

  • I was at this festival. Seems like yesterday. Can't believe it was over 30 years ago!! Amazing gig, never to be forgotten by those who witnessed all those great bands that day

  • Great track. R.I.P. Dio n Cozy \m/\m/

  • what an unbelievable solo!! But still its typical Ritchie.... there will never be a match to the great Man in Black!

  • Cozys last show in rainbow. Rest in peace Cozy.

  • Graham bonnet is the singer....he used to sing with alcatrazz....he told ritchie that the short hair & nice clothes stay or he goes elsewhere....he's a great singer....you should'nt compare singers really....dio was good & so was graham bonnet.

  • What??? Ritchie The BEST! But WTF why the f.ck is this guy???? No isn't close DIO noo nothing like him can't vote this is DIO song!

  • whos singing?

  • Ritchie at his best

  • Ritchie=Dios

  • This singer is not bad but this is definately dio's song

  • where are people sourcing this from ? I know its don - 1980 ...and i have three tracks on lp from this show ...but where the vision comes from - well, i am curious - was it a bbc broadcast ?

  • This is The Fastest Lead on the Fret Ever!!! I Bow to the Master of Guitar!!

  • @rebb61 Yeah, much faster than Yngwie! (roll eyes)

  • omg

  • OK...I am from the midwest and will just say....F'ing A..!t to Rainbow

  • @MrXAVIERDB

Malmsteen is fast, extremely fast but, in my opinion, lacks the feeling and style.... I was amazed when Satriani filled in for Blackmore in 1993 for Deep Purple.... but Ritchie is still by far my favorite guitarist...... and from 1972 to 1997 never lost a lick.... AMAZING!

  • I wish I was there..... I saw Rainbow 3rd row for the Straight Between the Eyes tour. Ritchie just has never seemed to lose a step.... even when I saw him in 1997 with new Rainbow he was absolutely amazing..... I do like Dio for this song better but Graham is better on all of his songs.... thanks for the video!!

  • THE MAN

  • Love Blackmore's crazy, soulful, spaced out soloing! Riding the feedback! Torturing that whammy bar! Just setting the stage on fire with his amazing feel! Definitely a well deserved guest on any show with that title! Would really love to hear Dio sing on this version, though...

  • The best version of this song is on the live on stage LP

All the songs on it have this unbelievable spirit.

  • i prefer dio to sing this...he felt it..more thn anyone do.. the soul , melody.. you know wat i mean (;

  • @6Stargazer I love Dio, but his versions of THIS song are LAME. This version has the sense of urgency, desperation and epic struggle that make a great song!

  • @johnstonebreaker well everyone have their own taste. i have to agree that bonnet is a good singer too (: contributed alot with Rainbow, MSG, Alcatrazz and more.

  • i mean, fuck, if this isnt one of the best instrumental live tracks?

  • This is far better than the other versions of this song! Bonnet is the MAN!!!

  • As so many of you were apparently there, can anyone tell me (a) was the whole of this song played, or only the instrumental seen here? (b) If it was played in full, is there a complete version posted anywhere?

  • this must have been just as DEEP PURPLE decided to reunite, you can tell by Ritchies mood, its pretty good, USUALLY ALWAYS BAD or PISSED, I think he is sensing change that is near, or that he just likes to play at CASTLES better! lol

  • this must have been just as DEEP PURPLE decided to reunite, you can tell by Ritchies mood, its pretty good, USUALLY ALWAYS BAD or PISSED, I think he is sensing change that is near, or that he just likes to play at CASTLES better! lol

  • I was there too. What a great day..! 30 years ago? Scarey - feels like yesterday. Ritchie and the band sereiously rocked...

  • @NDC147 must have been becos of the drugs XD

  • Ritchie Blackmore is amazing

  • Hard to believe it was almost 30 years ago, I was there it was awesome!!!!!

  • This is fuck great ..

  • what a great line-up!

  • @drlargepants Graham Bonnet rocks the fucking NATION!

  • The real stars on this performance are the rhythm sections boys Roger & Cozy. They make the perfect platform for Ritchie to create, hmmm, interesting noises.

As for Graham, he's great but the way that he has to push his voice to get that raspy sound out just kills his voice cords. Hence, no voice at times. With The Marbles, he used to sing all clean.

  • Here bonnet makes a great performance,it couldnt be better. Also dont forget about Airey

  • @kolchevsm Gram has a crazy voice. I think his voice totally works in Alcatrazz.

  • Uh sorry, Catch the Rainbow is not made for screaming, the beauty of the song is lost not until Ritchie does an epic solo in the later part. No disrespect but this song doesn't fit graham style...but I could forgive him for doing a great version of Stargazer :)

  • mmmmm blackmore at his best

  • I like Bonnet, and he has his own style, but I believe he has been known to lose his voice many times in concert. I have never heard of Dio losing his voice, and I must say that I like Dio's singing much better.

  • great singer

    lousy outfit

  • Blackmore = GOD

  • OMFG! Without Dio this music should not be played. So bad.

  • True that Dio is needed for this one, but i think Bonnet does a commendable job on this one for at least one show

  • i was there==}}

  • @THENITEGHOST

Me too! long day started by saxon remember them.

  • @olebarca99 no the day started with a band called touch,

saxon where third on the bill that day second, was a band called riot if

    i remember right. my friend....

    regards steve==}}

  • @THENITEGHOST

Well it was bloody 30 years ago lol

  • @olebarca99 this is very true my friend and its a sad fact

    that we will never see the like again==}}

  • @THENITEGHOST you are lucky

  • @THENITEGHOST Lucky. I was born around the same music died. In the 90's! Now I am stuck around the error of this revolting pop shit. I just wanna get in a time machine and see all of my favourite bands live.

  • Исполняют всегда по-новому композицию!

Как будто в-первый раз! Ипровизация суперски

  • bonnet?

is he the alcatrazz vocalist too?

  • Yes, it's Graham Bonnet.

  • the bass player is Roger Glover ?

  • Yes it is..

  • dio needs to sing this. sorry bonnet fans. rb sounds great.

  • And after 3:14...superb

  • Some fantastic licks in this one...especially 2:47

  • fantastic !!!!

graham bonnet is better ... mother fuckers

  • q buem video aguante raibow :) ,

  • I was there! Never realised there was video footage though. Remember at some point a plane took off from the nearby airport and it really added to the show.

Great day but at times the sound was poor - Judas Priest really suffered with sound probs.

  • yeah i was there too the plane took off durin saxon's 747

  • This is a legendary gig......on the year I was born......wish I was there!

  • god I wish i was there

  • deberia haber mas videos de este grupo para mi uno de los mejores grupos de rock del mundo gracias.

  • graham bonnet

  • yeah i know that.... no no no Dio's better :D

  • yes roger has a crap image.he is a very low profile person

  • Glenn is the man. He was awesome live. And for me far better than Roger. Rog is bit from distant age - more like 1920s :D:D:D

  • Yes .Glenn is better, always . A record was released in France in '81 from this festival . I' ve discovered Rainbow with Stargazer and All Night Long from this gig . A big shock !! Bonnet not made unanimity ,but what a voice at this time !

  • I was there. Priest, Saxon and Scorpions blew me away that day. And the toilets were, er, interesting.

  • i was there too.i know what you mean about the toilets

  • i was there fucking love it

  • awesome

  • was there 2,,wow such a long time ago......

  • A great performance, the master on the guitar, nomás pa´que vean dos tres hojaldras...

  • Catch the Rainbow without Ronnie James Dio is like drinking nonalcoholic beer !!

Watch Rainbow live in Munich 1977 then you know

why; nevertheless Graham Bonnet is a great singer!!

  • Cannot be better compared ! I was in Neunkirchen at my first rainbow concert and Bombed away by Ritchie and Ronnie....

    Signifikant Emotionales Erlebnis =

    FOREVER RAINBOW !

  • Epic!

  • i was there (what more can i say)

it was gods gift to me

  • great piece of music

    wander if airey wrote it

  • No he didn't. This was written before Airey had anything to do with Rainbow. It was written by Blackmore and Dio in 1975.

  • John Stone was Rainbow's keyboard player at the time of Rainbow Live 1977 ...

  • David Stone.!!!

  • not john stone but david stone

  • Yeah, got that. Rainbow Live, great album, had it when I was a kid (looong time ago LOL)

  • I was there too. Still picking mud out of my toes

  • so was i mate and yes its like yesterday, alot of shit music came after it lol

  • i have a copy of this concert be glad to do anyone a copy

  • Yes please I would like one :D

  • Cool, can you send me one?

  • Can you send me 1 pls ?!?!?

  • Hook me up! :D

  • I would love to get a copy of this show, old concerts like this is rare and hard to find.

  • Whats up with the red pants and pink sirt? Looks a little too much like David Bowie for me.

  • probably the bowie looks like them :))

  • RB THe guitar god

  • Blackmore and Glover and Powel, what a sound.and rockgod hope ur better. where would rock have been without blackmore. thats how riffs should sound.

  • i know i been to a gig when he rocked out and did the middle solo of catch the rainbow awsome, and to prove that ritchie aint all bad ive been ill the wife wrote to him im now a proud owner of a sighned photo,so messers gillan and lord my guitar hero isnt that mutch of a bastard ..

  • Through YouTube I've rediscovered Rainbow but hang on!(1)As a massive Sabbath fan I hated Dio when he replaced Ozzy, but listening to him now he's one of the best rock vocalists ever!(2)This clip with Bonnet sounds great- does anyone have the full version of this performance?(3)I never realised until seeing this just how amazing Blackmore is: I've always really loved virtuoso guitar playing and my favourites are Jimmy Page and Mark Knopfler, but Blackmore is awesome.Which one really is the best?

  • RITCHIE AT HIS BEST ,maybe we shall catch the rainbow one more time ,with dio?wow what a dream

  • Dream on, it will never happen !

  • awesome song, it is from the first album of rainbow: Ritchie Blackmore's Rainbow, long live rainbow!

  • Hecking full! I was there, about 10 from the front, straight ahead of Blackmore. What a day, what a night. Thanks for the memories.

  • dio dio dio dio dio dio dio dio dio dio dio dio dio dio dio dio dio dio dio dio dio dio dio dio dio dio dio dio dio dio dio dio dio dio dio dio dio dio dio dio dio dio dio dio dio dio dio dio dio dio dio dio dio dio dio dio dio catch th dio and see the stars make it shine for you and dio dio dio dio dio dio dio dio dio dio dio dio dio dio dio dio dio dio dio dio dio diooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo ty

  • freak =P

  • Dio left Rainbow...get over it.

  • who can tell me which song is this? I know the one catch the rainbow with Dio... which song is this and where I can find it?

  • this is the ending of "catch the rainbow" the song you already know...BUT this is the live performance of the song and a little bit different like the one on the album (blackmore always does this when he plays live)

  • this was the last concert with cozy powell on the drums...

  • cozy was the best drummer ever, after Ian Paice and Keith Moon

  • Stunning !

  • the bollocks.

  • Tony Carey is awesome!!

  • Even if it's Don Airey?

  • hmm, good one ...

  • Graham Bonnet on dirai l frére david bowi

  • Graham Bonnet on dirais le frére a david bowi

  • roger glover looks like john frusciante(the guitarist from red hot chilli peppers)

  • amazing.

  • look at the ease blackmore plays his solo stunning

  • Wow! What a combination; an over-the-top Roger Glover and an out-of-place Graham Bonnet! I never thought I'd see anything from this era, short-lived as it was. I wonder of JLT did many Dio-era songs?

  • blackmore at his best we all forget how good bonnet was he just looked a twat

  • I'm in the middle of readind BLACK KNIGHT story of RB.About the Graham looks...rest of the band wanted him to have his hair grown but just before this concert he sneaked out to get a haircut.... weird. Also last concert with Cozy, he desided to leave after.

  • that was a great book lol

  • Suggest you read the book again..I have that book, and Bonnet says he did NOT sneak out, he just went and got a haircut..you'd make a good journalist..you tell the story as you think it should be told..never mind the facts.

  • the reunion was due to go ahead with dio, till sadly cozy powell died, just wanna see blackmore one more time make the rainbow rise love to see a gig where bonnet, dio, joe lyn turner all did something from there time with the band, nows the best time to shelve the ye oldie music and do one last rock gig,you say this will never happen ,i sugest unless you work with mr blackmore, and you know more than anyone..you watch this space .....

  • Ritchie has said he was bored with rock, he was getting tired of playing at full volume all the time, with Blackmore's Night he can play quiter music, and if he feels the need to rock out, he can do iot in the encores..( if he feels the crowd have earned one ).

So he has the best of both worlds, and this why I say he won't reform Rainbow, or Deep Purple MK3.

Mk3 would mean the return of the screeching man..Glenn Hughes, and we know what Ritchie thinks about him and his "Sunshine " music.

  • the answer to that is no he allways said he was not going to sing other peoples dross

  • no one can match him, forget about page and clapton

  • it's very obvious that Ritchie is untouchable already.

  • incredible blackmore

  • great ritchie

  • Hi. All i have is in six parts. This was recorded and broadcast on tv in late 1980. I was at this gig and The first track on the night was actually eyes of the world. The editor should have been shot!! I'd love to see the whole thing again in full. It was the first festival i ever went to and was brilliant.

  • YOU are one lucky bastard, i saw this in parts on KCOP 13 in Los Angeles on a video show called Rock World (hosted by ...gulp... "Rick Dees") and became an instant Rainbow fanatic and went out and bought all their LP's. I still collect their EP's. thanks again for putting it up :D -MAVIII(progulus. c o m)

  • LOL I laughed when you "gulped" at the very mention of Rick Dees name. Buddy I live in LA too so I remember the show you are talking about. Still feel weird seeing short haired Graham Bonnet cover material sung by Ronnie James Dio. Ritchie brilliant as ever. Wish he'd do Deep Purple again or "raise" Rainbow from the grave.

  • Do you have the rest of this performance?
