  • Hated the Secret/Civil/Crisis/Wars/Conflict in the '80s and '90s, and still hate it now. Any newbie can grind out generic all-star cast atrocities - just throw everyone in a blender and see what's randomly left. (yawn)

What really takes talent is delivering good new stories, month after month, year after year, without lame-brained assassination gimmicks.

Out of every 500 novelists, only 5 might be decent poets.

"Superheroes never die - they just go out of print for awhile." - Ed Gauthier

  • Marvel Civil War is probably the last best story arc we will get from Marvel. What is dead should stay dead. Comic book resurrections should be outlawed. Enough is enough

  • i fully agree! the art work is the most phenomenal part in the comic and the story in the second one is way better

  • i hate marvel. this would've worked in the 80's or 90's like what happened to Superman in DC but not this day and age.

  • Why you didnt cry out about that they planned to replace rogers with the assisin

Bukcy.....You guys are shore in decline.

Buchanan "Bucky" Barnes was a serial murderer he was brainwashed(?) actually i think this is what was america in reality....killers.

  • wow,i mean,WOW,i was shocked when steve rogers/captain america died just like anybody else but come on,CAPTAIN AMERICA REBORN?!?ARE YOU SERIOUSE?!?this is so comic book typical. "steve rogers REALY didnt die,he's just stuck between time and space!"(despite the fact that we all saw him clearly shot) i mean,i would like the old capt.a back, but c'mon,is there ANY marvel universe character who's not invulnerable to "deaths" imbrace(and what happens to "bucky cap" now that steve's back?...

  • Great review! I absolutely agree.

I'm already apprehensive about bringing Steve Rogers back in the first place, but I really don't like the way Brubaker explains his potenial return - Steve is stuck in time or is out of time. What, really? It sounds like something out of a 50's B-movie. Personally, I hope Sharon and Hank Pym fail in their attempt to rescue Steve. That will be the only redeeming moment to this series - can't someone fail in the Marvel universe?

    I'm gonna subscribe to ya!

  • So you dont want to see Steve Rogers beign Cap and figting with the Avengers but you want to see US Agent and Bucky Cap beign Cap. Oh yeah almost forgot about Steve Rogers' clone: Captain America of the 50's.

  • I want to see Marvel put their foot down and say "We killed Steve Rogers and he's going to stay dead." Seriously, what does it say about death when a writer who doesn't like someone being dead can just throw up a lame retcon story and suddenly, the dead person is back. It cheapens and trivializes death and reminds readers they're just reading a comic.

So, yes, I want Steve Rogers to stay dead. I feel the same way about Jean Grey, both times she died. Just stay dead!

  • The one thing about the triviality of Steve's death is that Brubaker is the one who killed him and he's one to bring him back. He recognized his own mistake, or JoeQ did.

  • your gorgeous!

  • needs more action...

  • i cant even get an issue of captain america reborn

  • i think it's so cheap how they brought back Cap America, i wanna see some1 important die

  • When was the issues when Captain America Steve Rogers got assassinated?? Civil War?

  • Captain America #25 is considered the actual Death of Captain America but it also happened in Civil War.

  • ....thats what She said

  • FIVE STARS! great insight!

  • I haven't been keeping in synch with the Captain America timeline... from my limited knowledge, I think steve rogers died of a gunshot wound and bucky returned to take his place...altho I thought bucky died, so i'm assuming this bucky is a new recruit. So are they resurrecting rogers? I'll look it up on wiki.. seems like an interesting premise. My favorite cap story happens to be a title called Rebirth.

  • No, this is the old original Bucky who was actually "brainwashed" not dead and was the Winter Soldier. He's been Captain for a while after Steve "died." My theory is Steve will be asked to recreate SHIELD and Bucky will stay on as Cap but Nick Fury is still in the background so who knows.

  • Hey you gotta see The new captain america actor!!!

He's on the youtube channel called:

    CaptainAmericaBigBen

Seriously You Won't Believe it!! If you're a cap fan YOU HAVE TO SEE IT!

    good review by the way!

  • Hello I loved your video! I saw it in the related video to the new Captain America!

I agree with lowtheroad! You must see him Amber!

It's as if he jumped out of the comic book!

  • Ahh, ok. This scenario is bringing back memories of The Captain, adamantium shield.. this time, he'll be called The SHIELD!! I hope they give him a stealthy snake-eyes look, with black vibranium shield and all.

  • I meant the S.H.I.E.L.D. organization which is currently HAMMER. The character "The Shield" is by DC, I believe.

  • I know, i was just kidding ;D. In this case, pun was intended ;D

I didn't know about the DC version though. i think they shield relinquish the title to the Cap!

  • Nick Fury well what I know he is underground with a new elite secret team agaisnt H.A.M.M.E.R but i dont know

  • Bucky actually didnt die, his body was found by the soviet and i think he had amnesia and they used him as their solder : the winter soldier.

  • That's the ridiculous retcon story they came up with after they "killed" him.

  • I think that to me this first issue was a stage setter to make you start thinking of possible scenarios. Im of the mindset much like in some of my other books you dont want to give too much away in the first chapter. Leave them asking for more from the writer a build up of sorts if you will

  • The way I see it, Rogers is stuck in some sort of Quantum Leap-esque state. And throughout this book, I think it'll go back and forth between both sides trying to bring him back, and go between that and Rogers hoping the next leap is the leap home.

I'm thinking that Ed just is building up steam and accumulating in a big climax at the end, but I could be off.

  • Harsh much? ;p I think that it was a good intro. It also seems like the 5 issues will involve the rest of the Marvel U more so than the regular Cap series does. I think it's way too early to call on whether 5 issues is too many. I guess we'll see. I TOTALLY agree about the art though. Love Hitch. Are you reading FF at the moment? Most reviewers aren't digging it, but the art is sweet.

  • LOL I was running on my first sip of coffee. I didn't mean to be cranky but it's not Bru's best work and this is a really epic event. It's just not good enough for the magnitude of the story. I'n not reading FF(yet). You still love me, right?

  • Of course

  • not sure about this story.

  • u said tht in the end of the vid tht it souldnt hav even been a 5 part mini series based on the 1st issue of Reborn, u think tht it should hav just been a 1 shot or just like issue 601 like part of the normal series?

and a random question, where did u get those boxes in the backround, i got comics all over my room and REALLY need 2 store them and get them orginized X-D

  • My local shop sells the boxes. They help a lot with keeping the comics neat.

I do think that 5 parts for this story might drag. A short two parter, even if they were a few extra pages each should be enough for it. I do NOT want to see a bunch of spinoffs like they did with CW or Death Of.

  • nice review, its cool you talk about the writers and artists too :)

    I just subbed

  • I understand how you could feel that this issue did fall into formula. But it was just the first issue. I'm going along for the ride because it is the return of Steve Rogers and just want to see how every one in the Marvel U will take it.

  • So is the hubby going to stop boycotting Marvel now that Cap has returned?

  • He says he won't pay for any of it but since I bring it home, he reads a few of them.

  • just buy and enjoy...

reborn is coming out with 3 variants... but one variant didnt make it yesterday... so still waiting... and about ur review... its probably because u just woke up.. ur getting all grumpy on reborn.. so.. next time.. do it in the afternoon..

  • I agree I think the story is not that great all this suspended in time and space stuff is ridiculous if I wanted to read about time and space I would read Christopher Lloyd's biography on being Dr. Emmett Brown.

  • Many of the CLASSIC Lee/Kirby Captain America stories from the '60's were very heavy with Science Fiction. They had Robot Sleepers, the Cosmic Cube & MODOK, so the idea Cap being Unhinged in time is rooted in that tradition.

  • I'll be reading it today... But from your review, I'm getting the feeling we (retailers) were once again sucker-punched by Marvel's hype - because sale are flat thus far; and if the story is not up to par... Ouch...

  • Ok, I confess. I didn't say his name because I had no idea how to pronounce it. I'm so sorry! I figured omitting it was better than messing it up.

  • So you covered Ed Brubaker, Bryan Hitch and Paul Mounts, but no love for the brilliant Butch Guice who provided the "delicate inking" for the book?

His spontaneous Williamson-meets-Kubert brushwork really elevates Hitch's ultra-tight pencils.
