  • Tony Lander is the guitar player.

  • Tony Leander

  • I was arond at the time and it's Tony Leander of course!

    Blackmore was much later!!!

  • The axeman I hear on this record must be no other than Richie Blackmore. Come on, a guy who can play like this cannot disappear into oblivion after doing a great cut such as this. The guitar player who did this was world class... sorry, but Tony Leander was not.

  • of course it isn't blackmore. it's tony leander!!

  • This is Episode 6.

Tony Lander lead guitar, Roger Glover bass, Mick Underwood drums, Ian Gillan vocals, Sheila Carter Keys and Graham Dymock guitar.

    Blackmore was somewhere else!!

  • It's Blackmore on Guitar. Malmsteen was only 6 years old when this was recorded.

  • Blackmore playing guitar on this track is just a false rumor. It's actually Tony Lander. I have this one on the Complete Episode Six CD. There is a live recording of this song as well. I never heard the live version though. If someone has it, please post it.

  • You may be correct but Blackmore often played as guest guitarist on recordings in those days. It seems hard to believe that a guitarist with chops like this would have simply faded away. Back then Blackmore was one of only a few who could have pulled it off.

  • I have listened to several other recordings on You Tube of this group and none of then display this kind of guitar virtuosity.

  • Yes indeed. Blackmore played on several studio recordings produced by Joe Meek. Most notably backing artists such as Glenda Collins and Burt Heinz.

  • I once played this song to a friend of mine.

He recognized the melody. He however refused to believe that any human could possibly play that fast and insisted that the tape must have been sped up.

  • Yet now there are any number of guitarists who can play that fast. Blackmore was a pioneer.

  • Is it Ritchie Blackmore?it must be.

  • It's Tony Leander.

  • Malmsteen?

Well, I read several times on this track it s Ritchie Blackmore doing the soli as a present for Episode 6 after Ian Gillan and Roger Glover joined Deep Purple

  • Thaks a lot, have been looking for this for years !! Tried another youtube posting and all I got was a bloke playing a toilet brush throughout !

  • Just to set the record straight...Gillan and Glover didn't leave Episode Six to form Deep Purple, as the band was already in existence and had released 3 albums..they replaced Rod Evans and Nick Simper In Deep Purple.

  • My apologies of course your right it should have read to join deep purple oops.Ive now changed it and im a fan how red is my face.

  • Great guitar work! Who was the early shredder? You learn something every day and this group is a new one on me!!!

  • have you checked hawkmoon's channel yet? got some excellent old 60s tracks

  • flippin fantastic track!

  • Malmsteen anyone? Wonder is this track influenced him at all.

  • well his principal influence is Ritchie Blackmore from deep purple and rainbow. And Ritchie was the first to introduce classical elements to rock, Malmsteen have said several times that hes his principal root. It seems that the guy from this clip from 69 is Blackmore.

Malsmteen have taken some of his licks, clothing, movements, guitar...
