Thanks bud. In FSX, I find it perfectly safe to land on the side of the runway in a prop plane. So in case you see that you're gonna miss the runway in the last seconds, do you pull up or just land it ?
@minhvuvn Real life procedure would be to perform a 'go-around' so you would go through to full power and climb away from the runway if your landing looks evening mildly unsafe, or something is wrong with the aircraft. In FSX it doesn't really matter what you do, since it is just a simulation and not real life, but if you were simulating real life you would perform a go-around.
Thanks mate, you seem to be very knowledgeable and instructive. One final thing: What is the difference between the NAV and APR hold ? I also find the ILS approach to be madly inaccurate especially in the final phase.
@minhvuvn NAV hold will horizontally align you with the ILS or a VOR depending on the frequency you have tuned. The APR hold will horizontally align you and also fly the vertical profile of the ILS (glideslope). When the autopilot flies the ILS in fsx most aircraft, except some payware, fly it horribly. The ILS itself I think isn't too bad, its just how the autopilot flies it. Once you have runway in sight in FSX you can just go visual anyway.
@TroyChappy Another sidenote question: As I haven't tried to master the jets in FSX, do you think it's possible to visually and manually land a jet ? (I mean no autopilot and IFR involved at all)
@minhvuvn If you are using ATC they will tell you what altitude to descend to so that you can capture the ILS. The further from the airport you go the higher you will need to be in order to be on the ILS slope. If you look at the chart for the airports ILS it will tell you the altitude on there to be at to capture the ILS.
@TroyChappy Thanks bud. Can I have some more questions ?
1. The chart isn't available from the game's map, is it ?
2. I often approach at 2000-2500 feet, 5-10 miles from the runway. However, when I used the ILS 2 times yesterday, it successfully lined me up with the runway but shot me to 4-5000 feet above ground ?? I turned off the ALT holding mode.
@minhvuvn 1. The in game map won't tell you what altitude to be at to intercept the ILS. The charts are usually available from the internet at various websites depending on the country.
2. 2000ft at 10 miles should be fine, you should always try to intercept the glideslope from beneath it. So the aircraft should be on ALT mode to hold say 2000ft and when the glideslope becomes active then you should press APP mode on.
3. The rudder isn't used to turn the aircraft, it is used in the turn however.
Just a Big Simple Thank You. Never used the cessna went straight to the A series Airbus's this gives me a comprehension of where I should have started. And in someways more complicated. Thanks again
i do everything you say but all i ever get is the vertical needle moving all the way to the right and the altitude needle never moves, neither of them respond to my actions
@blimpstatio Make sure you have the right frequency tuned. If you change the heading of the VOR instrument the vertical needle should move, if not then you have the wrong frequency tuned.
@lobbyhobbybobbydubob You do have to be close enough to the ils for the needles to move, maybe 20 miles I think. Also you should be flying aswell as im not sure if they work when you're not moving. You also have to make sure you have the plane in NAV mode not GPS.
@TroyChappy but how would you know wich way to fly?
and theres no distence permiting when you active an ils from point A to point B.
for example when you fly to VOR station theres distance letting you Know how many miles you got to fly to the VOR and how manny Miles You flew From the VOR.
@lobbyhobbybobbydubob Most of the time an ILS will be flown at the end of a terminal arrival procedure so you will know what way you are going to fly. The needles of the instrument you use for VOR will move to tell you what way to fly also, like they do in my video. There will be something telling you how far from the localizer you are aswell.
@lobbyhobbybobbydubob Yes you can. The needles will still move like normal but YOU have to fly it, it wont do it for you. So just keep the needles right in the middle and you'll be sweet.
@lobbyhobbybobbydubob You dont need approach hold to do it, you just need to tune the ILS and the needles will move. Approach hold will move the flight director so that you can just follow what it tells you to do. You can do it without auto-pilot, you just have to fly the plane yourself.
So you've proved you can press buttons on an autopilot, but can you hand fly the ILS approach, can you even read an approach plate? Can you fly am NDB approach by hand in actual IMC conditions? In a real airplane.
@TroyChappy trust me in a real airplane it's so crazy flying an instrument approach when you are in the soup. Youve got everything going on at one time that you have to watch and one mistake can really screw with you or even kill you.
To set the heading the autopilot will hold, you use the heading bug indicator, the little orange thing, there is a knob on the heading to adjust it. To turn while using autopilot make sure the heading hold is on and change the heading of the heading bug and it will go to the newly set heading.
I dont have an A380 for FSX, so i cant really say i like one more than another. Not in flightsim, i dont really know, i would have to go with the 747 cause it has been around longer and has proven to be a good plane.
thank you for the video but maybe try zooming in more often so we know what your doing. Because i mean, if we need the tutorial we don't know most of what your doing, but still thanks for the vid ill give u 5*

@minhvuvn Its possible, and probably easier than landing it with instruments and autopilot (depending on the weather).

THE NEEDELS WONT MOVE WHEN YOU ACTIVATE AN ILS FREQUENCY IN NAV 1.
HOW WOULD YOU KNOW WICH DIRICTION TO FLY.
EVEN IF I MOVE THE OBS 720 IN A CIRCLE THERES NO RESPOSE TO THE NEEDELS.
CAN SOMEONE PLEEEASSSEEEEE HELP ME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

@TroyChappy so the only way to land with an ils landing with an aircraft with no gps is using the approach hold?
you cannot intersept the needels with out auto pilot in a ifr flight
what i'm trying to say is can you do this with out auto pilot? like file from VOR to VOR
But this time runway to runway using the vor needels?

alyelhadad 2 years ago
i wonder whats the job of ils, whats the use of it,, does it make you land automatically?
alyelhadad 2 years ago
The purpose of the ILS is to allow aircraft to land when there is very low visibility. Google ILS and I'm sure you'll get a better answer.
TroyChappy 2 years ago
@alyelhadad ILS brings you to runway, then u land it (flare it) in bigger aircraft (jets) u can autoland them, where it lands and flares for u

I think because when i learnt to fly the ILS i used the map to get the frequency. It doesn't matter either way you get the same result.

yout get the freq to NAV 1

what do u use for auto speed and auto throttle
fredrocks22 3 years ago
In the Cessna 172 there is no auto speed or auto throttle, you have to control the throttle yourself.
TroyChappy 3 years ago
how do use the heading on the cessna 172 how do u turn while using auto pilot?
karlyto1 3 years ago
To set the heading the autopilot will hold, you use the heading bug indicator, the little orange thing, there is a knob on the heading to adjust it. To turn while using autopilot make sure the heading hold is on and change the heading of the heading bug and it will go to the newly set heading.
