  • those keyboardmiditrumpets sure sound like shit

  • Vinnie dude how do you do it?!

  • Yes, vinnie doesnt follow time, time follows vinnie..

  • To all you naysayers out there! Vinnie is one of the all time great drummers! This video demonstrates time and space in musical settings. Rather than insult this try to learn something that will contribute to the betterment of your own playing. Great drumming is timeless (to norelativ2) Rule # 1 = Don't criticize truly great drummers! Rule #2 = follow rule #1!

  • Yeah, this is horrible music, just like the crap Weckl plays. No wonder no one knows who he is.

  • is someone knows what snare and heads is he using for this vid?

  • norelativ2, you´re right...he is awesome...but this songs smells stinks..god..what tha fuck???

  • vinnie is great... but i'm the only one that think that this song sucks??

  • @norelativ2 boring as all tits. and this is 2012 not 1979

  • I didn't know Nicholas Cage played guitar

  • lol this is not jazz

  • @EyMeng That's a whole different genre called PornMusic Haha)))

  • man this playing is godly, but the music allaround sounds like tom and jerry sneaking out of the picture...

  • that fucking keyboard player

  • in 0:24 I thought it was Nicolas Cage on guitars

  • I must admit that jazz gives me great laziness, but it is an excellent forum to see these geniuses running his music. With all due respect to you who love jazz, of course.

  • I LOVE JAZZ

  • 0:34 in, thought that was Ron Jeremy

  • He understands time signatures like no other,he knows exactly what he is doing and just because you can't understand it means you will never be able to play it and neither will 99.9 of the other drummers on this planet.he transposes music and can see it on another level .check out his career and you might understand him.

  • @dantean Hemorrhoids flaring up?

  • @dantean I'm sorry.. there is no way of putting this, other than that its totally 100% wrong!

Vinnie is totally humble and serves the music first before imposing. Part of serving the music is composition, which he does expertly. There is such a wall of evidence that goes against what you are saying!

  • @dantean Please kill yourself. I suggest decapitation with a dull knife.

  • Could anyone tell me the name of the song? I've just discovered Vinnie and... whoa!!!

  • check out what he does at 1:37!

  • One of the greatest drummers of all time~!!!!! Played with Frank Zappa, to name one great~! :)

  • one of the most respected drummer alive

  • anyone know what that snare drum is?

  • total faggots

  • this tune is called "Toast for Eli"

  • @hudsonmusicdvd

Amazing!! when can you release the first 3 songs they played here?

  • M\att Halpern, Danny Carey and Chad Kent beat this guy

  • @iWentToNam And if you ask any of those guys, their response would be something like "Uhm... No, we don't". I know Carey has given some serious props to Vinnie in a couple of interviews.

  • @sonicfrogdotnet agreed ...even Bozzio said Vinnie is the best drummer in the world

  • @iWentToNam "this guy"??? this guy is vinnie colaiuta!!! what the hell are you on pal

  • @iWentToNam dude danny carey is fucking awesome..i love him i really do hes one of the most original drummers of all time..but even he would say that colaiuta is on another level of drumming like no other humna being on earth.

  • @doublethumpbass89 I totally agree Double. Danny Carey is badass, and super creative in his parts. I love all things Vinnie as well. A good one not many know about is Al Stewart's "Last Days Of The Century" cd, from 1990 I think. Killer grooves. Sting's "Ten Summner's Tales" is brilliant. There is an old Allan Holdsworth 80's disc that is mind-blowing as well.

Vinnie subdivides time and hears like no other. A very musical player. Maybe the best living drummer alive right now. Peace all.

  • Whoo!

  • couldve used more bass guitar...

  • this is some zappa inspired shit right here guy

  • That was acctually incredibly borring for what I have seen vinnie do! Very tight and very well executed, but not impressive in my opinion.

  • Wonder what the bassist is playing through? I seen Hartke systems cabs. I have a transporter, but don't recognize the head. Anyone know?

  • the best with dennis chambers

  • Didn't he play on a Megadeth album? I think it was The System Has Failed, but I'm not 100% sure.

  • @6672rock yes he did play on The System has failed...learned and.recorded the entire album in 2 days as per Dave mustaine..who said Vinnie was a genius

  • This guy is very versatile. To those of you who dont know, he played on a Megadeth album :))

  • This man is just a master of his instrument - stunning.

  • Can anyone tell me what china he has on his left?

  • @wildanS That’s probably a Zildjian Oriental China Trash. Vinnie used the 22” model for many years. These days the Zildjian site says he plays a 20”. The one in this clip looks like the 22” to me, and since this is from the early 2000s, that makes sense.

I own the 22”, which is tougher to find now, but it’s worth the search. It’s amazing. Crash it. Ride it. Wear it on your head.

  • @timoteodeldesierto Acustom Swish China 22"

  • @timoteodeldesierto I don't think it is a Oriental China Trash, unless they used black printing for the logo those days. Remember, the China Trashes has red printing. ;-)

  • Awesome Vinnie! Shame about the music though . . .

  • what an awesome drummer

  • GREAT MUSIC !!

  • piano player man or woman?

  • @Chimaira222 HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA a Old Lady :P

  • @Chimaira222 Its David Garfield.

  • so tryin to figure out who invited the cross dressing piano player

  • Vinnie is one of the top 5 drummers around, his work with Jeff Beck

is awesome !!, he has great jazz chops but can lay down a heavy duty Bonham-type beat when it's needed, a VERY strong kick peddle a rare combination in my experience.

His sense of tempo is perfect, live or in the studio & his fills are great.

As a Guitar player I would trade my sister for a chance to play with a guy that good :)

  • Comment removed

  • whats with the comparison??? ok vinnie colaiuta is a great versatile drummer, tony williams is the greatest jazz drummer EVER, steve gadd is the groove master, billy cobham is the power master, and john bonham is the rock master..DIFFERENT STYLES...no comparison in drumming whatsoever

  • @doublethumpbass89 actually tony can tear his way through rock shit better than most anyone! tony williams lifetime.

  • Hard time for the Hi-Hat.

  • hahaha even the band gets lost sometimes! I think vinnies hands become magnetic with the cymbals on the downbeat or something!

  • personally, i think weckls better.

  • Anyone that doubts Vinnie's skills go ask Zildjian why picked him to creat A custom ReZo with Vinnie.....

  • Vinnie doesn't follow time. Time follows Vinnie...

  • @Ardent15 Uffffff you said THE REALLY TRUE!

  • @Ardent15 Untrue. He is impeccable. Never undervaluing the importance of counting.

  • @Ardent15 lol. Agreed!

  • @Ardent15 It is not true.

  • Worst drum video i've come across, hands down. Sorry to any fans of this video but this really is painfully shit.

  • @lukerr87 Really? You've not seen the hundreds of videos of good and bad drummers with shitty sound because some dumnass used his phone to record and uploaded the shit anyway? Or the many Travis Barker vids? Or vids that cut out right in the middle of a solo or song? THIS is the WORST drum vid you've seen? Lucky you?

  • @lukerr87 ha, you're intelligence is showing. It might not be the "style" of music that you like. But Vinnie is definitely one of the best drummers out there. Vic Firth ranks him better than Neil Pert or Buddy Rich, just saying...

  • @apercussionist91 Oh, firstly, you've used *your in the wrong way. NOT you're AND It's Neil Peart no Pert. So ahahahah, your intelligence is lacking not mine. I like many different styles of genre when it comes to drumming, but this guy just isn't interesting. Didn't mean to offend any diehard fans of this guy.

  • @lukerr87 Well I respect your opinion, but i hope you are an excelllent drummer that can say tha Vinnie isnt interesting....and i dont think that WE are a Vinnie´s FAN like you said, just we enjoy his tremendous skill, he´s so musical as well, I Know tthere are many drummers out there, like Bozzio, S Smith, Weckl, Roddy, Mangini etc etc...just enjoy the music men....I recomend you listen much more vinnie´s participate and music..

  • @lukerr87 its okay, try watching his other videos, this man is crazy! You'll end up watching him again if your new in drumming.

  • @lukerr87 That just shows that you don't appreciate great timing. This is a showcase of Vinnie's great timing, and tastefulness. There are a million videos of Vinnie ripping it up. This is just showing his great sense of time and dynamics.

  • @lukerr87 This dude is a classical drummer, not in every video does a drummer need to show off all his skills.

  • what the snare drum size? 14x??????

  • @thesabianfan 14x5 probably..

  • I love Colaiuta's playing and the work between all the musicians, but MAN this song sucks.

  • No problem. I wasn't trying to be nasty or anything it just seemed the you may have missed some of the subtleties.

  • He is doing something very hard on the drums and something a lot don't understand. He is using the silence between the beats

  • gran turismo 5 music

  • I jerk off in 7/8

  • clint eastwood on drums!

  • idiots comparing b rich to vinnie c is ludicrous. totally different styles!!! there is no such thing in drumming as "the best". they are all extremely talented at their chosen style!!

  • Love the fucking tone of his kit!!!! faaaaaaak!!!!!

  • toast for shit.

  • god everyone looks so old after playing with frank o.o

  • buddy rich would tear this motherfucker up in a second

  • @arkee71

    what

  • @chrisgr00ver just sayin...buddy rich is beast

  • @arkee71 Why do people have to say one musician is the best or would kick another's ass. IF they have developed a style of their own it is a blend of many others before them. If he was good enough to play for Zappa - who wrote out all the drum parts himself. Your comment seems based on Buddy's more bombastic style, but believe me Vinnie can do that too.

  • @squeezeflo ill take that as a fair criticism...because im a guitar player...buddys style prolly does grab me a little more..than a xperienced drummer who can more appreciste the subtleties of vinnies work...it was more a spur of the moment comment in response to all the "vinnie worship" on this page

  • @arkee71 I replied above, i like your response.

  • @JCsDrums

Sure, Vinnie plays musically within the context of this composition (which is of questionable taste).

Vinnie could play the Sesame Street theme song and kill it.

But this trend of compositions which sound like they were intended to accompany a video game or the latest "Die Hard" film, serve no other function but as a vehicle for showing off chops. That's why there's no real audience for this stuff besides players/fanboys.

  • @larkydozer obviously haha

  • @larkydozer really well said.... how fucken tight is it?! wow

  • @larkydozer Yes, I would tend to agree with you, strongly.

  • @larkydozer read some interviews and you'll get a different idea of what he's all about.

  • @pmerendi

    Read some interviews?

I've been reading Modern Drummer since 1982. I own ragged copies of many issues of M.D. with Vinnie in them, or on the cover and also have a few copies of the short lived "Drum" magazine, with Vinnie on the cover and the inside.

So, rather than allude to some special information you or a magazine article are privy to, why not come out and say what, precisely that is?

  • @larkydozer Go to his website, click the interviews tab, and read the MD interview from 2007. We all know that he can play quite a few things to say the least, but he's really not about "showing off chops."

  • @pmerendi

It's abundantly clear that you either didn't bother to read my comments, or that you're

    simply unable to comprehend.

  • @larkydozer you said that this music is "for fanboys," and that it is only "a vehicle for showing off chops." In the interview, the musician in question clearly states that he is NOT about showing off his chops, making your statement invalid.

My reading and comprehension skills are perfectly fine, thanks. So please stop taking shots and we can continue to have a friendly conversation.

  • @pmerendi

Oh, the artist can have all sorts of intentions when they set out on a career in music, it doesn't follow that one interview dictates the objective reality of their every recorded moment and it's especially clear that this musical selection is fanboy material, regardless of your desires or Vinnie's utterances in a publication.

You can evade my question all you like, but intellectual honesty isn't something I ever expect from YouTube users. Enjoy the fuzak.

  • @larkydozer I'm not sure which "question" you're referring to, because I haven't evaded anything.

Not sure what "fuzak" is; maybe you made that up. I'm done arguing with you; "fanboy material" is an improper label, but you are obviously hung up on it for some reason. Have fun not enjoying cool music.

  • @pmerendi

Just stop your typing for once and go back over the comments to see what you've

    evaded.

It's quite simple. But then, you're simple.

  • @larkydozer Hahaha, Fuzak! I'm gonna have to start using that one.

  • @HunterGathera

    Heavy Metal Fusionporn™

  • Amazing drumming, but let's face it.....this is terrible music. The same sort of stuff the Chick Corea Electric Band produced for the excitement of Berklee College of music students.

  • what a bizarre performance

  • music from ace combat 6? lol

  • Why does it always need to bee this fcn cheesy keyboard- sounds when these "technically skilled" studio- musicians is doin something solo?

  • @fremmed1 good point! sometimes it takes great musicians to produce something really awful sounding

  • sounding horrible

  • What's the china to his left? Sounds amazing.

  • @deftones720 A Custom 20", I guess.

    P

  • @deftones720 22" oriental china trash, amazing sound!!

  • This song is amazing, iuno what you all are thinking. common, he is keeping PERFECT timing!

  • What an awful song! :S

  • I thought keyboardist was a woman.

  • Music as always been in the ear of the beholder. One mans garbage is another mans treasure...why cant people grasp this ancient old concept? Who cares what someone else likes or dislikes as music...because at the end of the day, they are not the ones cranking your tunes in your car, turning on your MP3 player or buying your albums for you. Just listen to what you like with your ears instead of your mouth.

  • I love Vinnie and I love fusion, but I'll admit this song is weak.

  • this is kind of like one big intro but still amazing!!

  • boring

  • @fatboyslimz2 Am I wasted or is he reeeeeeeeeeeally playing drums? I didn't understand why you are playing violin...

  • I think he should have chosen a better song for this video... this is boring as hell man

  • vinnie kicks ass on megadeth's album the system has failed!

  • Fill at 0:10 is my life.

    SO COOL

  • I know this is a bit superfluous, but WOW, that SNARE DRUM IS AMAZING.

  • wow, I can't believe all the negative comments on this video. This is really tasteful playing, and an unusual but groovy arrangement. You have to strike a balance, and it's nice to see something different once in a while.

  • Michael Landau on Guitar! He is god!

  • Music should have some emotion...this is more like a math expirament.

  • @DCussen what are you talking about, this is incredible :D

  • So 1:30 - So groovy.

And the screams at 1:32 are from people's minds being blown.

I had to leave my computer because of the sheer power of the universe at that precise moment.

  • @Omygoodnessg That was really funny.

  • @DCussen Aw, man I apologize for replying to your comment, I meant to just make a regular post.

    Sorry D:

  • This music SUCKS!! Who would ever listen to this? I don't care who is playing the drums...would you honestly buy a CD of this?

  • @DCussen Ha! Perhaps laying off the drink and drugs, and/or being a musician may help. This is definately "musician's music" and if you are not a musician, the odds are increased dramatically that you will not appreciate this piece. You also may want to give it a few listens; a.k.a the concept of "acquired tastes." Good luck to u mate on your ears and mind.

  • @TheArbiter74 it's a dogs dinner of a piece

  • @TheArbiter74 I am a musician. Are you? I didn't say there wasn't talent in this. I'm saying it's Weather Channel music. Perhaps if you laid off the drinking and the drugs, you'd be able to discern good music better. Just cause talented musicians are playing it, doesn't mean it's great music.

  • @DCussen Am I a musician? Comical question. Yeah, I dont drink or do drugs and I'm looking around this crazy country of ours, and that may be my problem. Oh well.

  • @DCussen I have a CD

  • Sure they're all talented but why is this 'virtuoso' music always so shit??

  • Muy bueno

  • Muy bueno

  • Vinnie may very well be the best drummer history has seen. He has it all: technique, versatility, professionalism, chops, stage presence, and innovation. I think even Gadd and Weckl may agree...

  • @ everyone, Vinnie is better than Travis Barker and Terry Bozzio and, of course , John Bonham, better than Stewart Copeland (and the limited Chad Smith), Elvin Jones, greater than Chad Wackerman. I really think Vinnie's ambient-powerful-technical play is like Steve Gadd on ketamine, with his technical ability but also John Bonham's power and passion. Yay the VC!

  • @drawlbag Music's subjective; you can't really state these as facts. Granted, I agree, to a degree, with you on some of your opinions. But they all are great in their own right.

  • @Metallica4Ever93 lmfao! ur joking right???

  • @Guns8000 dont feed the trolls

  • @Metallica4Ever93 MMm almost right....no wonder your name says metellica, ulrich is even a lesser drummer then travis. Not that they don't play well, but they can not compare to this man, weckl, gadd, smith, greb, bobham, townsley (ok,and others)....by far!!

  • @Metallica4Ever93 Travis Barker is extreeeeemely horrible.

  • Why do the world's best musicians play the crappiest music? This electric fusion stuff makes me dry heave.

  • @abirch300 Well said. I couldn't possibly agree more. Weckl's the same way. Who would buy an album of this music?? I don't care how good the drums are.

  • @DCussen I almost agree with you, although I love about half of Weckl's Masterplan and parts of Hardwired. Festival DeRitmo from Masterplan is superb!

  • @abirch300 hahaha! my thoughts also. thank goodness i have dreamtheater and symphony x to satisfy my taste in music.

  • @abirch300 You should probably look at Vinnie's discography before you say he only plays electric fusion.

  • @abirch300 This comment made me laugh out loud :D

  • Every time I hear Vinnie I have to go and practice my drums. This guy inspires me to no end. Hes incredible

  • i dislike his tuning

  • Vinnie Colaiuta is my hero, he is the reason i now play violin

  • @fatboyslimz2

    Holy shit
